Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader A lot of care and attention were obviously devoted to selecting locations, designing sets, and grooming handlebar mustaches. Much less attention went to making one believe that any of the events took place circa 1879. May 10, 2012 Full Review Matt Mueller Empire Magazine Doesn't really cut it in the Western genre. Such is the case with Tombstone, which might have a stacked cast of A-list character actors, but it also comes with drawbacks. Michael W This Western movie was really good. Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Sam Elliott, Michael Biehn, BIll Paxton, Dana Delany, Powers Boothe, and the rest of the cast did an excellent job in this movie. This true story about legendary lawmen Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday was dramatic, action-packed, and thrilling. It's about holding up the law and taking down the cowboy gangs. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's a definite must see. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/19/25 Full Review Dave J Val Kilmer was fantastic as Doc Holliday. In fact, he steals every scene he is in. The rest of the movie can be fast-forwarded, as it is that bad. Kurt Russell and Stephen Lang are embarrassing to watch. Completely fictitious representation of events. Tired of Earp being portrayed heroically as he was essentially a thug for the wealthy capitalists and later tirelessly worked to establish his own myth. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/18/25 Full Review Brayden G Best western movie of all time. I watched this for the first time. Rest In Peace Val Kilmer Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/13/25 Full Review Mike M "Tombstone" is not just a movie, it's a cinematic masterpiece that has stood the test of time and remains my absolute favorite film of all time. The standout performances of Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday and Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp are nothing short of legendary, and their on-screen chemistry truly brought the characters to life in a way that is both captivating and unforgettable. Val Kilmer's portrayal of the complex and charismatic Doc Holliday is a true standout in the film. His performance is nothing short of mesmerizing, capturing the essence of a man torn between his loyalty to his friend Wyatt Earp and his own inner demons. Kilmer's portrayal is both nuanced and powerful, making Doc Holliday a character that lingers in the mind long after the credits roll. Kurt Russell's portrayal of Wyatt Earp is equally impressive, showcasing the legendary lawman's strength, determination, and unwavering sense of justice. Russell brings a sense of gravitas and depth to the role, perfectly complementing Kilmer's Doc Holliday and creating a dynamic on-screen duo that is truly unforgettable. But what truly sets "Tombstone" apart for me is the special bond between Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp. The film beautifully explores the complexities of their friendship, highlighting their unwavering loyalty to each other in the face of danger and adversity. The chemistry between Kilmer and Russell is palpable, adding an extra layer of depth and emotion to their characters' relationship and making their bond the heart and soul of the film. In conclusion, "Tombstone" is a timeless classic that continues to resonate with audiences for its stellar performances, gripping storytelling, and unforgettable characters. Val Kilmer and Kurt Russell's portrayals of Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp, and their special bond, are the true highlights of the film, making it a must-watch for anyone who appreciates great cinema. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/13/25 Full Review Gustavo R On the day Val Kilmer passed away, Hulu recommended this film. I watched it long time ago so decided to check it out again. Follows Wyatt Earp and his friend Doc Holliday when he retired after being a peacekeeper in Dodge City Kansas. Retires at Tombstone AZ. Only to encounter a band of baddies called the cowboys and fighting ensures. Is Lisley based on actual events including the shooting at the OK corral. Story is weak 🍿🍿🍿/5 on Hulu Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/12/25 Full Review Ms Kris C OK I've never really had an interest in the film. I of course heard it was a good film. Does not make me want to see any film just because you've heard it is good. Sad reason I finally saw the film in 2025 was the death of Val Kilmer. We can count the number of 1990's actors in it: Dana Delany, Jason Priestley, Thomas Haden Church Two actors who worked together on The Terminator & Aliens: Michael Biehn, towards the end of his fifteen minutes, and the late Will Paxton Actors early in their careers: John Corbett, Aiden from Sex and the City. So a plus to this film is the strong cast. Kurt, Sam and Val giving top notch performances. I had little knowledge of the story of the people who's story this is about. Disadvantage to me there. For me besides the acting by the leads the shoot outs are the feature here. A nitpick: Did NOT need at see characters spitting all the time. Once for the effect. So a good film overall.
