Tombstone Reviews
With real mustaches and fury in their performances, the ensemble delivers a marquee feature of the era. Tombstone is not just a fun film; it's a very good one.

When it comes to legendary Westerns, Tombstone firmly earns its place among the genre's greatest—an essential for any classic film collection.

Films that have a cult following are not always there to be revered, and sometimes, meeting your heroes can be disappointing. Such is the case with Tombstone, which might have a stacked cast of A-list character actors, but it also comes with drawbacks.

While the Western resurgence of the early ’90s eventually faded away, "Tombstone"'s warm glow has not only persisted but thrived.

Val Kilmer's performance is legendary and a likely reason this film is more fondly remembered as a modern western classic rather than the mess it ultimately becomes in trying to tell a full piece of the legend.

One interesting thing about the story is that it appears that the writers really did include a lot of research and attempted to create a lot of accurate details in the characters and in the story.

The 'right hand' men are the reason we all keep going back to Tombstone.
| Original Score: 4.5/5 | Apr 25, 2015
Too many characters and not enough time in which to deal with them, and action that seems so rushed to get to the end that important scenes are left out.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | May 10, 2012
A lot of care and attention were obviously devoted to selecting locations, designing sets, and grooming handlebar mustaches. Much less attention went to making one believe that any of the events took place circa 1879.

A spectacular and well acted bit of Western cinema and sadly one in an endangered genre species...

Sports pretty much everything one would want in a Western, and though it's not always eminently artful, it is rarely anything less than entertaining. [Blu-ray]
| Original Score: 3/4 | May 17, 2010
One of the finest Westerns to come along since the genre decided largely to pack up and ride into the sunset several decades ago.
| May 16, 2010
It has an energetic flow, and a genuinely rugged, exciting feel, unlike many of the more bloated, picturesque examples of the Western genre.

It takes a lot more than the passage of time to value Tombstone. Naps, earplugs, and possibly tremendous amounts of alcohol also assist in the proper digestion of the feature.

Doesn't really cut it in the Western genre.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Apr 1, 2009
A tough-talking but soft-hearted tale that is entertaining in a sprawling, old-fashioned manner.

Dated and flawed, but super cool for Val Kilmer's brilliant performance as Doc Holiday.

It has problems - a LOT of problems - but as bubblegum westerns go, there's also a lot to like.

I liked the film but I would've liked to have seen some of the first hour trimmed, and the romance taken out completely.
