Tomorrowland Reviews
Almost 10 years later, I revisit this movie and I think exactly the same as back then: it's a magnificent tribute to Walt Disney himself, which I'd say is only recognizable if you are, as a person, emotionally in tune with Walt's style. Meaning, for instance: if going to the original Disney parks or watching his original movies is just a mere activity for you, without stopping to think even once about the marvelous prolific creative talent and futuristic mind behind all of it (Walt's mind), then chances are you won't really understand what this movie is about. Many reviews agree that there is an issue with "uneven storytelling". While I got to give that some credit (it happens at certain points), I don't think it was the intention of the director, producer and the movie production team, to make a perfectly balanced big box office hit for years to come. The movie is expressly designed for you to have a "Disney park on steroids" experience (I mean the park is on steroids, not you). It's a delicious, visually bright ride through Disney's entertainment style and optimistic vision of the future. The 1964 New York World's Fair recreation (including the "It's a Small World" display), the different and more advanced animatronics involved in the story, the nice, sleek futuristic city design (inspired on Disney's Tomorrowland visual desgin), all of that is an intentional extraordinary ode to Walt's work and memory. Watching the movie for me everytime, is spending those minutes in a happy time & place (which is exactly the Disney parks' first intention). If you're able to experience it this way, any storytelling "mishaps" will be absolutely forgivable... It's a nice all-audiences movie, for the whole family.
While it has some dazzling visuals, the movie was very underwhelming. The plot was uneven, some of the acting (particularly Robertson’s) was terrible, and the script felt underdeveloped.
Everyone needs to see this movie for what it is and not what it could be. In a world where negativity is the norm having a sense of hope is how we survive. Every day we change the world through the smallest of actions and this movie showcases that we all make a different. From the musician to the artist to the scientist to engineer, every positive action is a net gain for all of us. Pushing out toward what we want to see in the world, young or old we make a difference. It starts with a dream and never giving up.
As a HUGE fan of Brad Bird, I came in with fairly high expectations. Unfortunately, the movie didn't work for me on a number of levels. I felt that the pacing was off. Quite awkward at times. The actual plot can get confusing. Sometimes it feels like we're being fed too much too fast. The characters and their journey were not very compelling. I didn't really feel I knew any of them well enough to truly care. On a more positive note, I loved the very stylized visuals! It can be quite the spectacle! Also, Michael Giacchino did a good job with the score, like you'd expect! Overall, while this film didn't work for me, I would give it a try if it sounds interesting to you, art is subjective after all, and I hope you can enjoy it more than I did!
It’s not the absolute greatest movie I’ve ever watched, but i thought it was very entertaining and the visuals are INCREDIBLE. The soundtrack by Michael Giacchino is also insanely good.
Equally whimsical and dark, Tomorrowland is an imaginative and stunning blockbuster that's no where near as heavy-handed with its messaging as folks made it out to be, and yet so wildly relevant today.
A bit overdone at times, but the message comes through loud and clear. The two girls and Mr. Clooney are superb, even adorable.
People are so negative, I actually really enjoy this movie. It has a good story
Ouch. This movie was far too long and slow paced. It started off okay but fell apart about halfway through. Any other movie based on a Disney park ride is better than this.
This movie has an excellent concept and a villain motive that makes sense. What hurts this potential masterpiece is some cringeworthy acting and Nickelodeon-esque CGI, not to mention we don't see a lot of Tomorrowland in the film Tomorrowland. That being said, if you were to ignore these glaring issues (which would likely cause disinterest in younger viewers), Tomorrowland at least has an original, entertaining, and logical idea (something Disney needs more of lately) that I honestly wish turned out better.
I don't understand the hate this movie received. I thought it was original, stunning, and had great performances. I am glad it's finally available on Disney Plus.
Absolutely brilliant! It feels like everyone is destined to watch this, from the casting to the directing it couldn’t be better! Truly a missing masterpiece lost between Disney films most people don’t even know exist!
I expected more from this movie but still just another boring movie.
I really liked this film. It was very intelligent and well made. Hugh Laurie's speech at the end about people seeming to enjoy and be entertained by the end of the world is really smart.
Tomorrowland is pretty cool and futuristic film with a good massage. Please give this a chance.🚀
I thought this was a great movie for both adults and kids. It has a nice story and a fun little adventure.
Fun, entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable. A spectacular presentation and a smooth ride throughout. Never got bored. A story with a message: not so much in your face but 'willing on' and motivating the dreamers of the world to make a difference - a must-see for the idealists. 😀
underrated film, its plot and story are more than interesting and captivating from the beginning, it also brings with it a beautiful message that we should all appreciate, it does not falter and gives us a futuristic adventure that is more than fascinating and fun.
I truly think that this is a one of kind movie, Disney does not make movies this good anymore. Maybe I am bias due to this being a childhood movie, although this is my completely honest review.
My Rating: 5/10 (Mediocre)
