Town & Country Reviews
Not quite girly junk, but near enough.
An actual picture for just the wealth seeing their reflections in satirical authentic portrayal, while other perceptions can confirm how pettily pessimistic and frivolously aimless, as well as blandly intolerable, this disastrously-produced "comedy" turned out to be into nothingness. (C-)
This movie seemed to have a decent premise and seemed to be building up to something, but just went nowhere. It was confused and rambling and very anticliamtic. Basically, it was hugely disappointing.
I won’t be super super harsh ….. but it wasn’t good 1.9
No one is likable and no jokes land, besides that it is great.
I wanted to like this movie because of its bad reception and because I generally like Warren Beatty, but man, the actual screenplay made it hard to do so. None of the characters were even slightly sympathetic, the main character that we're meant to feel sorry for continuously cheated on his wife and very little of the comedy induced any actual laughs. It was cool to see Beatty & Goldie as old people prior to their respective retirements, and Keaton did very well in her role, and I would mention that Charlton getting the Razzie win seems cruel since his part was so minor, but the movie they all actually appeared in was far beneath each of them. That said, the driving force behind the movie was just a fantastic film score/soundtrack, as even before much character exposition had been had there was a mischievous feel to the music that just matched the plot perfectly, and really it only got better from there. Truly fantastic.
A train wreak that you can't look away from. A movie I just saw completely hung over and it sobered me right up. I guess that's a success, but it's so bad. An absurdest comedy.
Although there's a lot to like in terms of comedy, the film feels a little haphazardly put together and as such lacks much of a driving force or heart. Warren Beatty's turn as a husband who in a 25-year marriage has never had an affair but who decides to after his friend does is supposed to be the premise, but its resolution is too underwhelming. All of the film's stars have done better.
What a sad waste of a perfect cast! Town & Country had the potential to be a wonderful comedy for adults who are tired of watching gross out and slacker comedies. I was willing to overlook the fact that this film is recorded to be the most money lost in film history and focus on the film itself. What I watched was a disjointed movie with scenes making no sense strung together, since the script was re-written as they continued filming. A director who obviously had no control here, acting that range from the shrill(Golidie Hawn)to over the top(Charlton Heston)to the underused(Natassja Kinski)It all ends with a lame ending, reportedly Warren Beatty's out of control ego demanded changes while filming and clashes with producers and director did not help matters, and Beatty has not been in a film since. Maybe there is justice after all in Hollywood.
Just the fact that it was the BIGGEST box office bomb of its year makes this among the 10 worst films of 2001. This leaves a mark on Goldie Hawn's and Diane Keaton's records as well.
I think "disaster" would be the best word to describe this flick. I still don't get what I was supposed to like about it. What exactly were they going for here? Just a bunch of over-acted parts without much of a plot.
I thought this movie was fun. It's about two couples who through several years of marriage find themselves in crisis because the men are unfaithful to their wives. This movie wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. Fun to watch though.
Great acting mismatched with a terrible and uncomfortable screenplay that is disjointed and crude from beginning to end. Lets pray Beatty can come back and do better than this!
** (out of four) The perils of the filthy rich! It's too bad this film is such a disappointment given the fine cast that includes Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn, Garry Shandling, and Josh Hartnett. A 5th Avenue couple jets off to Paris to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. When they return the lives get complicated when they find out that their best friends are having having an affair on each other. Not nearly as fun or engorssing as you'd expect from this cast.
