Trick 'r Treat Reviews

Apr 7, 2025

A Halloween treat full of razor blades. An anthology film that creatively interweaves several Halloween horror stories of varying quality together smoothly. Its anthology format and Halloween setting makes it a relaxing seasonal watch, leading to its cult status. The character of Sam is very memorable and he himself has become a cult icon within the horror genre. Brian Cox significantly elevates the story he’s part of, delivering a performance that stands out compared to the B-horror-style acting displayed by a majority of the rest of the cast. Similar to Hallmark Christmas movies, this is a casual, festive watch, perfect for the Halloween season.

This movie was a little weird and boring in my opinion definitely scary has an okay story but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch again

Kinda scary but the plot is all over the place. They tried combining these many stories together but instead just ended up jumping between the stories randomly. The scares in this movie were good in some scenes but I didn’t get into it at all. Don’t recommend if you want a good story or good characters.

This was a nice surprise! I went in knowing absolutely nothing about the plot, which made me grateful! My sometimes unfair aversion to movies that mix horror with comedy would have prevented me from giving this movie a chance. While it doesn't take itself seriously in any way related to all the plots, letting creativity run wild to infinity and beyond, the production and direction take themselves very seriously in stitching together all the narratives in a very interesting way, well executed and without leaving that feeling of watching something trashy and meaningless. And the best part: it does it all in 82 minutes! I had a lot of fun!

This film is an original, fun, and well executed idea. The pacing is perfect. It is funny, but not too funny that it is not tense. It is a tribute to halloween that hits every checkmark for the genre. The score is great. The stories are fun and interesting. The set pieces are perfect. It has a killer cast. The spooky vibes are present the entire film.

I’m sorry, but this movie is all over the place. It feels more like the collection of beginnings of Supernatural, but Winchesters will never show up.

This movie felt like a fever dream to me. So many individual stories thrown in together, so you have to follow different timelines. My favorite part was probably the school bus massacre and least favorite was the werewolves part as I thought it was just poorly executed. Yeah, it was a nice plot twist, but it lacked something. I probably won't watch the movie again, but if you like anthology movies, this one is worth a watch.

Every Halloween trope possible randomly thrown into a blender with no rhyme or reason. The tone, costumes, & set design nail the vision but the attempt at anthology does not work at all. The writing tries to justify it but cannot.

I watch this every year at Halloween. Nothing spectacular just a really good horror movie.

Hasn’t aged super well, but it does some have some good moments, including some decent plot twists. Not bad, but not great. Humor in it was also just mid. 3 / 5 stars

**Review: 3.5 Stars for *Trick 'r Treat*** *Trick 'r Treat* truly lives up to the Halloween hype—it’s a perfect pick for a spooky night in! I’d been told so many times to include this in my Halloween marathon, and I’m glad I finally did. This horror comedy strikes just the right balance between laughs and scares, with well-crafted, intertwined stories that keep you on edge. The anthology format works beautifully here, with each tale bringing something different yet equally entertaining. The horror feels real, with solid jump scares that legit got me, and there’s also this perfect touch of dark humor woven into the storylines that had me laughing even as I was covering my eyes. It’s clever, very well-written, and delivers the fun of Halloween in spades. If you're looking for a mix of horror and laughs, *Trick 'r Treat* is a must-watch.

I have just watched this movie and it has become my favorite Halloween movie. I didn't use to be a big fan of these kind of creepy stories but I really liked this film. The photograph, scenarios, costumes and music were pretty good representing a colorful and creative Halloween day without saturating too much. Nevertheless, the stories were not very scary but they have some violent scenes which were unexpected. Some of the characters were very funny, especially Steven Wilkins and Sam, but the rest of them were a bit forgettable. If you want to watch a good Halloween movie, This might be the perfect option for you.

This anthology horror film relates five interwoven Halloween horror stories with a common element in them: Sam, a trick-or-treating demon, who appears whenever a character breaks a Halloween tradition: from a sinister principal and a seemingly innocent virgin to a group of pranking kids, a Halloween-hating woman, and a grouchy old man. This well-crafted movie captures the Halloween spirit like few others, and its non-linear episodic structure adds a fantastic touch. It balances a few gory moments with unexpected, creative twists, delivering an experience that has nearly every element horror fans crave. It is easy to see why it is becoming a cult classic, and I would love to see more of Sam in the future!

"Trick 'R Treat" manages to be scary, funny, and always entertaining. The film carries a light tone, but the level of violence is definitely not for the kids. The Halloween Horror Movie EVER!!!!

While it had some entertaining moments for Halloween, the movie lacked a cohesive main plot, and the werewolf elements felt poorly executed and unrealistic. Overall, I wouldn't watch it again.

This movie is absolute garbage if you are a horror fan. This movie made me cringe with how stupid it was... And the people giving it 5 stars makes me wonder if all of them just watch Disney movies on a regular basis... The fact that this movie got a better review than Aliens Romulus makes me want to punch the population in the face. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Please stop making these ridiculously trashy "horror" films where the acting and the script make me want to gouge my eyes out and stab my eardrums with number 2 pencils.

Sometimes funny, sometimes cute, and often times laughably gross, this short Halloween movie is a set of seemingly unconnected stories that get tied together in one satisfying ending. Don't break the rules of Halloween, folks, or a cute alien monster in an oversized onesie and sackcloth mask might teach you a lesson, the hard way.
