UglyDolls Reviews
With the school holidays on, this movie is a colourful and entertaining 90 minutes for kids under 10. The songs are easy on the ear and there are a couple of good jokes for the adult minders.

It's all pretty derivative but also pretty wacky, and there's meaning, if you look for it, on a whole lot of levels, from Freudian imagery and hints of religious allegory to the satire of reality 온라인카지노추천.

Not so much a movie as a contemplative space wherein the viewer ... explores the shifting dynamic between the eponymous plush toys and the hegemony of play.

Positive messaging about celebrating our unique imperfections and seeking your own truth has never felt more urgent to children in the age of Instagram. Pity, then, that this toothless and derivative marketing exercise doesn't practise what it preaches.

The songs are horrifically soppy.

This paean to body positivity and living your own truth is more than welcome, but you just wish UglyDolls' message could be more charmingly argued, adroitly assembled and just plain funny.

The animation style of UglyDolls is so off-putting that it may be more worthwhile to watch any other children's film that offers the same messages about self-acceptance instead.
| Original Score: 1.5/5 | May 12, 2019
The script underwent a lot of sweetening after animation finished, with plenty of one-liners and exposition yelled in from just off-camera, almost all of it either unnecessary or just plain flat.

For a film about weird, colorful dolls, one hopes for something wackier, funnier, edgier. But "UglyDolls" is so soft - literally, the felted textures are startlingly realistic - and tame, that it feels like watching those PBS cartoons aimed at toddlers.

UglyDolls is less a movie than an infomercial for the plush Hasbro toys.
| Original Score: 2/4 | May 3, 2019
For a movie about supposed ugliness, "UglyDolls" works overtime to be pretty.

Movies don't skew much younger than this - anyone who isn't still attached to an umbilical cord might roll their eyes at some of the story beats...

The message of the screechy new kids' movie "UglyDolls" may appear to be "Be yourself," but the real takeaway here is "Buy our merch!"
| Original Score: 1/4 | May 2, 2019
"UglyDolls" is a mind-numbing, low-rent version of "Toy Story," with saccharine songs and a plot with echoes of, no kidding, the Holocaust.
| Original Score: 1/4 | May 2, 2019
UglyDolls are already adorable. You don't have to work that hard to convince anyone.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | May 2, 2019
One must give in to the fantastical elements in films of this kind, but some of the plot details in this mashup production (Toy Story + Monsters Inc. + a generic stage show) are as visibly defective as its heroes but much less huggable.

Buyer beware.

Every aspect of this computer-animated movie directed by Kelly Asbury seems equally overdetermined and tossed-off, as if it were a caffeinated weekend project for everyone involved.

Like their Troll ancestors, the UglyDolls combine an evergreen cuteness with a why-now lack of currency.

An imbecilic eyesore that could lay claim to being one of the worst movies ever made if it was worth such hyperbole.
