Underwater Reviews
I normally can’t watch Kristen Stewart..,to be frank. She’s like Mila Kunis…I don’t get lost in the character, because I keep seeing, hearing the actress. But she did a great job in this movie. She shined. And the movie itself was really good. When it ends and you want a sequel, that’s a good movie. The script was excellent too: if you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there. T.J. Hooker shined in this movie too.
(ENGLISH) Underwater doesn’t break any new ground. From the very first minute, you know exactly what you’re in for: a group of characters trapped in an underwater facility, a mysterious threat picking them off one by one, and a desperate fight for survival. The film wastes no time on unnecessary introductions and jumps straight into the action, but that same rush works against it—there’s barely any character development. Kristen Stewart does what she can with her role, bringing intensity and presence, but the story doesn’t give her much to work with. The biggest issue is how familiar everything feels. Underwater borrows shamelessly from films like Alien, The Abyss, and Leviathan without adding anything new. There’s tension, sure, and some sequences work thanks to the claustrophobic setting and well-executed special effects, but the overwhelming sense of "I’ve seen this before" is hard to ignore. The action can also be hard to follow at times, with dim lighting and frantic editing that make it difficult to see what’s happening. In the end, Underwater is an entertaining but forgettable experience. If you enjoy survival thrillers with sea monsters and don’t mind a formulaic approach, it delivers some tension and solid visuals. But if you’re looking for something more original or characters that truly matter, this might not be the deep dive you’re looking for.
For a movie full of action and monsters, it's kind of a bore.
Aliens under water, this is not!
An excuse for a deep sea "Aliens" movie which was saved by above average acting and great rhythm
There's a movie from the early 80's called Leviathan that got pushed to the side bc it released the same time as Alien. I feel like they ripped off Leviathan big time
Lots of gratuitous wet tee-shirt action and so much technical issues that I was distracted from the "plot". For example, emergency hatches that take long, complicated sequences while a station self-destruct is accomplished by a single button press. Furthermore, Stewart inexplicably changes into revealing clothes that show her (very nice) body. I enjoyed the scenery, but I would have liked to have some reason the for wardrobe flip.
Very enjoyable. I don't care at all if it's derivative. It was well done with compelling characters (for this sort of movie). Vincent Cassel, TJ Miller, and Kristen Stewart were great. The scares and turns were fun.
Cara, eu sinceramente gostei do filme, mesmo com seus erros eu amei.
Without any buildup or character development this ended up being a survival/monster film where I never really cared about the characters. They jump so immediately into the action that you're really watching an hour and a half third act. I guess the acting wasn't bad, but without any characters to cling to, or dialogue worth following it just didn't give you anything to care about. It's so by the numbers that I got bored and started doodling halfway through. Also, and this might be the biggest sin of the movie, it is so blurry that it's not even worth watching. Visually, this is one of the worst films I have ever seen. It's infuriating when you putting your face almost on the screen in order to try to decipher what you're looking at. Someone needs to be fired for that. Why make a movie if you can't make out what's happening visually for all the "exciting" parts? I felt like Mr. Magoo.
I don't understand the hate. This is exactly what it described itself to be. The monster designs were amazing, had good jump scares, and the claustrophobia of being trapped inside a suit in order to survive will always hold weight, hence why we keep making horror films about both the sea and space. I loved this and will rewatch it for sure.
Lovecraftian horror done right. Well executed, fast paced, the only miss for me was TJ Millers allegiance to corny jokes, but it got better as it went on. The scene where she shoots the underwater flare to see what's out there lives in my head rent free.
A modern take on Call of Cthulhu with a mix of Alien and you honestly have such an underrated sci-fi horror movie
It's watchable. I was mostly annoyed at Kristen trying to hold on to the Captain when he was drug deep underwater by the creature. The Capt tells her to let him go and Kristen says "I can't" despite her suit warnings blaring every alert that she's killing herself. The following scene she tries her best to be emotional while going through the Captain's belongings and I just kept rolling my eyes. Imo, Stewart is very 1 note and unable to express emotions with her face.
A Sleek, Sunshine-esque horror-thriller that sort of pulls its punches, Underwater treats the deep ocean like an alien planet, turning Scuba-diving into Space-walking while isolating the ongoing disaster as a rag-tag group pursues slim chances of their survival in what’ll prove to be an instrumental 1st step towards Duffield’s (assuredly monumental) adaptation of WHALEFALL.
This movie has some excellent action pieces starting from the very beginning with the damage taken by the underwater station, also, the suits and the overall direction is great.... there just ONE thing that ruins it all..... the "outside" underwater scenes look murky and dark... it's like watching "The Abyss" through dark shades and a smoked glass.... I watched the behing the scenes and there was never water, is just a dry set with fog to add depth and then silt was added with CGI but they went TOO FAR with the fog. In comparison is one of my fave movies "The Abyss" where all the underwater sceens look CRISPY, clear and awesome!! but for some reason, they thought "let's make it hard to see anything to add suspense" but it only adds confusion and even makes it look cheap... If they had gone in a different direction with the underwater scenes this could've been a classic!!! but as it is, is an average "direct to streaming" movie
Honestly this movie had a good potential but between the very slow reaction time of the characters, their poor decision making, and the bad ending, this movie end up being stupidly painful to watch.
Boring story and somehow seen everything before. Good pictures and exciting framework under water.
Its quick. To the point character and manages to be its own movie not just Alien underwater.
Película muy mala y fea no se entiende nada ni para entretener sirve está estafa 👎
