V/H/S/85 Reviews

Mar 29, 2025

I've always had a soft spot for the V/H/S series, and 85 doesn't disappoint. As usual, it's a mix of found footage stories-some hit, some miss-but the good ones are really good. They lean into the analog horror vibe hard this time, and it works. The grainy video quality, the weird edits, the "did I just see that?" moments-it all adds to the creep factor. The standout segments for me were the sci-fi body horror one and the one involving the cult-it reminded me a bit of The Void. There's also some genuine weirdness here that I appreciated. Like, it's not just trying to scare you, it's trying to disturb you in that old-school VHS rental you regret watching alone kind of way. That said, a couple of the stories felt rushed or ended too abruptly, which is kind of the curse of anthology films. Still, there's enough creativity and nasty fun here to make it a solid entry in the series. If you're into found footage and you know what you're signing up for, this one delivers.

The best installment of this franchise since 1&2. Some really creative ideas fleshed out that make the most of their short time on screen

V/H/S/85 is an strong addition to the franchise and an solid end to the Years Trilogy because of its roots back to scares and how some segments are actually shot on VHS. It may have the most mixed reviews of the trilogy and that in my opinion, not even better than V/H/S/2 and V/H/S/94, it still manages to be great and worth a watch in the franchise. All the segments feel solid with it ranging from silly to horrifying. However, the film is dragged down by how confusing it is. I was asking myself what the fuck I was watching and getting so annoyed on the usual cliches and the cameraman still holding the camera even when they’re literally dying which is so unrealistic. Other than that, I’d still consider an solid and strong installment in the franchise and that the end credits song is kind of a banger. 7/10

Bem merdeiro.

With this entry in the series the filmmakers hearken back to the 1980s Makes sense given this was considered the decade of horror So many classic horror films owe their popularity to this era in history This anthology is filmed in a 4:3 aspect ratio with a grainy filter to give off the authentic feel of how media was viewed via movies, tv shows, news broadcasts, commercials, music videos etc. This one explores more of North American media pop culture along with the zeitgeist The stories here involve a summer camp vacation, a news team encountering an ancient Aztec god, a religious performance artist facing a computer generated monster, a family of killers, and a kid who dreams of a killer The main segment involves a creature that can mimic being studied by scientists, truth be told that one ends on a more disappointing note than the others being chaos just runs amuck without any real payoff It’s also confusing trying to put the first segment together because it connects to another one later and you really have to think about it all coming together Plus an hour and 51 minutes for this chapter is a bit excessive But the creators keep coming up with new scary ideas for their stories 6 movies in

🍅 8.3/10 Greatly ambitious, but pulls it off surprisingly well it’s smart, constantly interesting, gory and might, unironically be one of the best VHS films with nothing but great segments. No wake/ambrosia/dreamkill Perhaps one of the most ambitious segments but damn, they pull it off so well, I was intrigued at every stage of the segment even if it had a kind of cheesy beginning, it just kept getting better after that I love the fight at the police station. It was very terminator esk. And I guess you could say it might be a little messy but to me it was just very intriguing all the way through. 9.5/10 God of death. This was a lot like Safehaven not as good, but still a very great segment. I love the visuals here the set pieces and all of the acting is just really great. It’s a very well put together segment and has a great ending. 8.5/10 Tknogd. Probably the worst segment, but still good a very odd and interesting one it’s not really much to say, but it was entertaining. 6.5/10 Total copy. I love the almost documentary aesthetic which makes it a little more unique and it has a very good payoff with a bunch of bloody Gore. 7.5/10 I am very pleasantly surprised with VHS 85. It makes me much more excited for beyond and it’s definitely a big improvement over 99. i’m just a sucker for anything 80s so of course this got me hooked and of course it’s now my favorite of the series. Also, I really like the parody of the man behind the mask in the credits. Average score 8/10 Grade A-

What I would argue is the best entry (until BEYOND released), V/H/S/85 is disturbing and surprisingly funny with some wickedly timed dark humor amidst the gory nightmares caught on tape.

I hadn't watched any of the V/H/S franchise before this. These films are not for the faint of heart and have a very particular taste. It's disgustingly gory but the found footage presentation keeps it compelling. Eventually I found myself covering my eyes and had to shut it off. Just too gross for me.

Undying. Collapse. Science. One of the stronger entries in the franchise, my least favorite was TKNOGD, about a performance artist taunting a god. I loved the execution and premise of No Wake, concerning campers who encounter a crazed shootist. I wasn't happy their fate was never revealed.

It can't get worse? Can it? Well 2023's 'V/H/S 85' will answer that question. SYNOPSIS: 'Unveiled through a made-for-온라인카지노추천 documentary, five tales of found footage horror emerge to take viewers on a terrifying journey into the grim underbelly of the 1980s.' Overall this is a bit of a mess with stories all over the place. However, 2 of the stories probably redeem the whole film and would be worth looking at in terms of extended adaptions. 'V/H/S 85' is an absolute blast of gore, laughs, fright, and mayhem unlike 3 of it's predecessors. The improvements of any installment really comes down to the luck of the filmmaking draw, and this one has some heavyweight directors behind the scenes. It really should've been better though. 6/10

The first story was by far the best one for me. It was great to see the story develop. The other stories wasn't amazing, the final one was interesting but the audio direction was awful at times. Stick around for the credits as that song is awesome.

The V/H/S movies are great! They're very unique and definitely keep you interested. V/H/S 85 may not have lived up to the previous movies in the franchise, but I do think it's worth a watch. It helped me brush up on the little bit of Spanish that I actually remember haha.

"V/H/S/85" continues the success of the famous found footage franchise in all its weirdness and uniqueness. This latest entry pays tribute to the revolutionary 80's with an anthology of five short horror stories invoking the vibe of this era. These disturbing VHS tapes still haunt us in the present days!

This is probably the most disturbing horror film I've ever seen; next to "Sinister".

Awful movie. More disjointed than any of the others by far, although this one failed to bring any storyline to connect anything happening in the different scenes. Aside from the squirt gun and shooter shared in 2 of the scenes, nothing else was even related. The news station scene was the worst horror narrative I have ever watched. This is just a sad attempt to squeeze one last movie out of a franchise which was known for gore and randomness by putting complete nonsense on the screen and pretending any real effort at all was spent to make it a feature film.

First of the series I've seen and it really does a great job of entertainment and awesome display of cinema! Enjoyed enough to want to check out the whole series!

Nov 12, 2023

Another solid entry into the V/H/S franchise, perhaps the most fluid installment thus far but lacking the jaw-dropping chapter of other installments and with an overall connecting theme that failed to deliver.
