I went into Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant not expecting much based on some of the harsh reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. The movie has a unique story, fun characters, and a dark yet humorous tone that kept me entertained. The fantasy world of vampires and freaks is visually cool, and John C. Reilly as Larten Crepsley brought a lot of charm to the film. Sure, it’s not perfect, and some parts feel rushed, but overall, it’s creative and enjoyable. It’s worth a watch if you like quirky fantasy movies. Definitely better than people give it credit for! I gave it 5 stars as a PG film and to counter some of the critic's low ratings.

This movie did not get the love it deserved. As someone who read the books growing up, I was a little disappointed but movies never get it right. Series like these should always be shows because there's just too much detail that gets missed. But as a movie, I loved it. Would've loved a sequel

Not sure why the rating on this movie is so low... This is one of my all time favorite must see films. The story was great, though a little overly ambitious in how many books it tried to cover. The cast was amazing and did Fantastic, every character complimented the next. The only sad thing is they didn't do a sequel or trilogy. I think this is going to be one of those films that people warm up to over time because it is to good to just fade away. It gave a nice unique take on vampires without being a bloody mess or sparkling. O and I think this is the best performance John Reilly has ever done. All the actors were great but this was the first time I saw John as a real actor instead of just a walking punchline. It proved he was more than his typecast.

As someone who's read all the books the movie was just this incredible disappointment, not really any redeeming qualities about this movie. Honestly it was heartbreaking that the movie was so bad, I loved the books and was excited to see they had turned them into a movie... Well when I had actually watched it, it was a far cry from what I was expecting. Would not recommend anyone who's read the books to ever see this movie. I wish I could un-watch it.

I've read Darren Shan's books in this series. I loved this movie, as strange as it was and loved John C Reilly as the vampire. Adding Willem Dafoe was a fun surprise. This is not a blockbuster by any stretch of the imagination, but a cult movie it definitely is and I've watched it many times.

I don't see why this movie is getting such bad reviews. It's a bit of fun that shouldn't be be taken all that seriously. It had a pretty impressive cast, and I thought it was rather enjoyable.

Did not stay true to the books

Either it favored both then vampiric crazed interest or YA novels' disregarding adaptations as unfinished gamble propositions of engaging potential being turned lackluster, the sort-of grittier Burton-like diverse imagination of subtracted whim performed well with the beneficially talented cast working with what they were given in the jumped direction that didn't resolve the story much like it should in order to make narrative sense. And what's bad not about the movie but for is the title. Most of my friends didn't want to watch this because of the title. They thought it was a circus movie but it is much more than that. This movie was entertaining but the utter lack of acting ability by the boy lead made it almost PAINFUL to watch. Such a shame.... whoever cast him should be cast out of Hollywood 🤣

Take a drink every time someone says "Vampanese" and you'll be under the table halfway through Dafoe's rant. Oh, and LOTR wants their Smeagols back.

Its mix of scares and fun isn't executed in the best way, with poor characterization and storytelling.

Decent enough watch, probably won't watch again unless they make the sequel, and can't recommend. While this is a decent watch, when it comes to it: it is awkward and weird, but not in a fun way. It is also the most serious role I've seen John C. Reilly, which was weird enough on its own. There are a lot of people that you may recognize in this movie, all doing nothing, bit parts, just so they can say, "Yeah, we put the regenerative woman in there." Its not that I don't like that they're included, but it didn't mean anything. Why go to the trouble of making a 5 foot forehead guy if it never comes into play. By far, Jessica Carlson was my favorite, she's the only one with an arc that feels somewhat natural, even if is "OMG, cute boy.". A lot of the rest feels forced or drawn out. The main characters aren't even an exception here. Josh Hutcherson (Pita, Hunger Games) we know is a decent actor, there just wasn't enough meaningful part to fill, and he's playing off a guy that just wasn't up to carrying the movie when it needed. Honestly, had Josh been the lead, it might have gone a lot better, but I'm sure the other guy wasn't up to being a jerk. I think there is something to enjoy here if you give it a watch, but if you start to explicitly dislike something, turn it off: it doesn't get better later.

I rather enjoyed it. A fun little vampire flick with a nice mix of darkness and light. Was interesting to see Reilly in a role like this.

pretty alright movie but the plot and the main guy's acting were total dogshit

Not a bad movie, made me laugh when I first watched it and has a good start. Becomes a little cliche but still enjoyable.
