Vesper Reviews
The movie had a lot of promise, some beautiful moments and an interesting atmosphere. Unfortunately the whole entertainment completely stopped on those moments and stretched way, way too long. There were couple of scenes that felt totally unnecessary, the whole plot could have been told better in almost half the time. Characters made some dumb choices for incomprehensible reasons.
The visuals were great and the story was really compelling. I definitely recommend it for sci-fi fans!
The worldbuilding is somehow interesting, the story not so much. Kinda generic these days. I think the world is starting to get tired of fungus-based dystopias
There is no tension, no fun, nothing amazing in this movie. It isn’t even coherent.
The best post-apocalyptic scifi in the past 20 years. Beautiful, imaginative and a bit unsettling. Visuals and a fairy-tale vibe reminiscent of Jeunet and Caro (Delicatessen, City of Lost Children) but with a much darker, more serious tone.
Sci/Fi movie about an environmental disaster that has changed the planet and the struggle to survive. Nice performance by Raffiella Chapman and Eddy Marsan was also good. Impressive visuals and ideas as well although sometimes a little convoluted. Pretty good overall.
Marsan brings a mediocre performance which drags down further a struggling movie.
Such a beautiful and dark vision of bioengineering gone wrong. Not the same sci fi you see over and over. The organic style is mesmerizing from the tech to the landscape. Not far from the truth and what has been happening in the real world of agriculture
Um belo roteiro, me prendeu do início ao fim com sua trama envolvente, cenários sombrios e maravilhosos efeitos. Temos muito drama envolvido e ótimas atuações. O fim é aberto e sugere que talvez exista uma continuação. Vamos torcer.
Had me hooked as soon as it started! Great movie!
Hauntingly beautiful.
Imagine having sex and the act being stopped before climax. Not a very satisfying thought, right? Well, when the credits started to roll at the end of this film, that's how I felt: unsatisfied! This movie had potential but left me wanting a satisfying climax and that's not the way I want to feel after nearly two hours. It teased big things but never delivered. Watch at your peril.
Yeah, a bit stumped by the high rating, which is why I watched it. Ok- the movie SET= unbelievably original. The 'Look' of the movie was about the only thing worth watching. The details of life in the environment were also exceptional. The problem is the story, it's really flimsy. The pacing is so slow, it was like watching a barge crash into a bridge but w/o the great ending. I didn't hate it- but wouldn't have missed never seeing it. Oh, the acting was all good, there just wasn't much to this one.
Damn, was Vesper an unexpected awesome movie! Subtle, quietly powerful, totally original and sublimely acted. Totally compelling, I've not seen anything quite like it before. Bleak, yet ultimately hopeful. An appreciation of synthetic biology/bio hacking might help, but is not essential to appreciating this exquisite film.
Before watching this I was noticing that across a lot of different websites it hovered around a 3/5 star rating among audiences. So I was curious to see why it wasn't better than that, because it seemed like the pieces would be there to make an intriguing post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama. The main culprit, as I might call it, is that it's a little slow. But more in a scene-to-scene sort of way than a story arc sort of way. I think the pacing within a scene as well as the scene length and cuts between scenes, gave it a dragging quality and didn't captivate my attention the way I think it could have. Because I think the material was solid; the delivery could have used a little spice. But also the music could have had a more emotional style to it and that would have helped. I barely even noticed that there was a score, and I'm generally very attuned to music in films. My main sense is -- and I hate to say it and rarely feel this way -- but this movie would've benefited from a dose of Hollywood blockbuster flair. A little more action and energy. With its distinctive story and solid performances it certainly could have been more engaging. The underwhelming execution doesn't do it justice. The whole is less than the sum of its parts.
An eco-apocalypse story of boring proportions. At times, it felt more like an attempt at an art film with it's heavy emphasis on scenery and production than on engaging story or believable characters. It also did not explain aspects of the story and left loose ends. Some of the scenery was creative though (if also very icky) in its biological horror and that's why I don't give it one half star
Don’t waste your time watching this like I did, drags along for ages just to end so boringly, such a shame because it had potential.
Starts slow, but does a great job of world building. And that's a scary world that I wouldn't want to live in. Interesting post-apocalyptic movie dealing with big themes.
Visually stunning! Yes its a slowburn movie, but I find it really entertaining how alien like and bizarre the post apocaliptic world is! Love the organic and fleshy aesthetic. Its the kind of movie that raises intrigue and mystery questions. I hope they continue the series its so interesting I want to know what happens to the girl and where she goes next!
Its quite unusual apocalyptic movie.
