Violet Reviews

Jan 10, 2025

It took me a while to comprehend what was going on. There's the usual voices of the actors, there's the voice of someone (her mother?) inside her head telling her what's the right thing to do, and script written words of what Violet wants should do. The screen takes on a reddish tone when Violet is emotionally pushed. Never seen a movie like this before. Had to give it an extra star for originality.

Bravo!!! A truly innovative and fully immersive cinematic experience….Justine Bateman’s film begs a rewatch or two. Top shelf performance by Olivia Munn and supporting cast. Might be the most creative movie I’ve seen this year.

This movie accurately portrays what it's like to live with mental health issues and the battles associated with it. If you are struggling, you are not alone.

The premise is a bit on the nose but the execution is far better than expected and Munn shows she can be a star.

Absolute work of art.

As a person whose mind rarely takes a break, I can relate. Perhaps not as volatile, but pretty ruthless.

Annoying at times, and brilliant at others, Justine Bateman's 'Violet' is a mixed bag that most certainly won't be for everyone. It is, however, unlike any film I've ever seen. Olivia Munn is incredibly real in a role that needs someone who can display a multitude of emotions. We have an internal voice and some words on the screen and that can prove distracting. The central aspect of the film is fear and the human condition. At the core, it's brilliant. Justin Theroux (Voiceover) is the conscious of our titular character. There are also captions that make this more complete, but there are times it's just too much. The film is also fairly predictable. The overarching message is powerful. Rid yourself of toxicity! Intense, but thoughtful and a wonderful debut from Bateman. Final Score: 6.8/10

I love innovation and taking chances. Some projects, like Violet, try really hard to tell a difficult story in a new way, but fail. It's okay to say that. And, it's okay to see movies like this, and appreciate the attempt.

Five stars....so well done. Different, fast moving, insightful, loved it!

An awesome movie that talks about the choices we make every day and our inner voice telling us we aren't good enough. This movie goes through the fears and decisions we have as people when we think about our own choices and teaches us a lesson about self-love. It shows us how you need to be slightly selfish and greedy sometimes and the beauty of it with balance. The half might seem slow and slightly off-put but the last half picks up to be one of the best endings and a fantastically powerful run with amazing performances from our leads. A worth watching film.

Violet is a film exec that is living under the weight of a fear-based mindset. The film is interesting because you see her hopes contrasted with the fear's voice while the action is happening. It's a slow break from the past, but a fresh look at the inner workings of a modern mind.

Violet is a boring film. It is about Violet who realizes that her entire life is built on fear-based decisions. Olivia Munn and Luke Bracey give horrible performances. The script is badly written. Justin Bateman did a terrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture.

This movie touched me in a way no other movie ever has. It somehow captured the way the voice in my head interacts with me and my world in a way I could never have explained. I was as transformed from it as I was transfixed throughout it. Kudos to Olivia Munn. She must hear the voice too. And to Christine Bateman. She definitely does.

Very slow and repetitive, at about 1/3 through we were asking "where is this going"? It stayed on that trajectory for the rest of the movie, when the credits rolled I really wanted my time back.

I think it is a very thoughtful movie that speaks to the voice we all have in a our heads. Telling us we are making a mistake or making us afraid to do things. I loved it.

So original and thought-provoking. Well acted. Clearly Justine's passion project - and like in the movie - she was probably discouraged by some people from making it because it's "arty." In this case, another word for arty is brilliant.

The VO came across a bit annoying, but in the end it came together alright.

Very good movie. The lead character was believable and confirms what Women have to go through in the workplace.

I wasn't sure if I'd like this movie but it was honest and fabulous. I'm still thinking about it. The acting and directing are top-notch.

All of us have an inner critic and then some of us have negative voices that torture us on the daily. I lived Violet’s inner voice life literally for years before I found that “bridge” (or higher connection) through spiritual guidance where my inner voice no longer tortures. They help and guide. Though personal work through meditation will always remain. Justine Bateman captures our human experience perfectly in Violet. This film is for everyone across the spectrum. To help us feel less alone.
