Wall Street Reviews
'Wall Street' makes for an interesting watch, anything to do with the titular financial market is total gobbledygook to me but even I was fairly hooked throughout. The performances of Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen are top notch, so no surprise it turns out to be very good. I would say that the pacing is not the best, it probably overstays its welcome a bit, though to be honest that's the only thing I have to list under negatives and it's not even a big one. The relatively more energetic ending does do a fair bit to quell any serious run time issues.
A Classic Drama. The acting by Father & Son, and Douglas is amazing with really good dialouge. Douglas is the best thing in this and everyone else is really good. He does a great job emboding the greed, excess, and Go-Go Era as an amazing villian. Really great supporting cast as well including Holbrook who is great as always. Wish he was in it more. Everything else is really well done across the board. This does such a great job capturing a time in business unlike any other. The setting is really memorable. It also does a great job serving as a critique on Wall Street vs. Main Street without being to on the nose. Stone deserves credit for the really strong direction but never being to heavyhanded with the messanging. Where the problems are here are a few minor issues. First the first half is the stronger half as the script is sharper and faster paced. Once he becomes in with Gecko it feels like a couple of different subplots like the romance, the father/son relationship, him doing Geckos work all start to diverge and it becomes a bit muddled. It does wrap up very well but it is a bit predictable if you've seenany drama before. Especially a business related one. Second, this kind assumes you know something about how stocks/business works and if you don't the buying/selling and business lingo can be a bit over your head. For better or for worse this doesn't really explain that but you can get the idea in general when something is good/bad for a character thanks to the great acting and story. If your a fan of dramas, any actors in this, Stone, or if you want a look into the era of Barbarians at the Gate than check this out.
I really enjoyed this movie. I thought the cast was very well selected and the acting was great. Plot was also was pretty good but also a little bit predictable. Highly recommend and is definitely worth the watch.
Can’t believe I’m just now seeing this film. Excellent, moralistic tale. A must see
Definitely one of the greatest movie ever. Michael Douglas is badass as always. High level actors with an high lever director.
Acted well and pleasure on the eyes and ears.
This crime movie was really good. Michael Douglas, Charlie Sheen, Martin Sheen, Daryl Hannah, John C. McGinley, James Spader, and the rest of the cast did a fantastic job in this movie. The plot of the movie was dramatic, shocking, and tense. It's about what it's like to work on Wall Street and what money can do to a person. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's a definite must see.
Several decades later, Wall Street has aged charmingly and is as relevant as it has ever been. Featuring great performances from a exceptionally talented cast, the film has earned its position of prominence in the zeitgeist of post-modern America. The final scenes could have been adjusted for a more elegant ending to the story, but that one critique aside, it's a truly great classic. I would definitely watch this again.
The world of Wall Street is where the pursuit of money never rests and the lengths they go to obtain it are almost insane! Bolstered by its impeccable performances, especially Michael Douglas, this film shows us the line between lawful and unlawful is hard to determine. With some stellar dialogue and lots of intense storytelling, this is one of those films that can be applied to the financial world of corporate America!
A really enjoyable movie, even though I know nothing about the stock market I still get that, Greed, for the lack of a better word is good.
Great directing by Oliver Stone during his peak with some solid performances as well
Amazing movie about finance, ambition, greed, capitalism, and the american dream
A wonderful 80's film about NYC characters caught in the middle of a less glamorous phenomenon that occurred in the 80's. Oliver Stone's film here is an absorbing and more original "rags to riches" kind of tale bolstered by a divinely provocative Michael Douglas turn.
Um filme delicioso e cheio de lições importantes que ensinam que a honestidade não tem preço mas vale a pena segui-la.
First time viewing this, color me disappointed. The acting was the only positive, though I didn't really connect with anything coming out of their mouths, or the plot they were involved in. I guess you need to be a film critic, accountant, or New Yorker to get this.
Wall Street is something that I've been interested in seeing mainly because of Oliver Stone and Michael Douglas. The story is mostly focuses on Charlie Sheen's character, Bud Fox who is a stockbroker who becomes involved with Gordon Gekko played by Michael Douglas and yes, wouldn't you know it? He won an Oscar for his performance as Gordon Gekko. Amazing! This movie reminds me of The Wolf of Wall Street. Seems similar. Charlie Sheen had been previously working with Oliver Stone in Platoon which I haven't seen it yet. Michael Douglas is fantastic as Gordon Gekko and he did the execution of the character fantastically and he steals the show in every single scene he's been in and he says a line that I suppose many people remembered saying "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good." His acting in this is just flawless. Daryl Hannah is an obviously interesting choice but aside from that, she won a Razzie Award for Worst Supporting Actress. Why is that? I don't know why. Who knows. Martin Sheen plays Bud Fox's father. Charlie and Martin are both family in real life. They both did well in this film. I really, really enjoyed Wall Street and Michael Douglas is the best thing about it. In fact, this is the only film that ever won both an Oscar and a Golden Razzie. How ironic is that? While not the best film of Oliver Stone, it is still an very good experience.
An entertaining movie with one of the 1980's greatest villans in Gordon Gecko. A study of greed, ego, and the drive to succeed.
Whole movie can be summarized by a single sentence also put forward in one of the scenes. Money makes you do things that you do not want. Although I believe that the movie tells you a thrilling story taking place in wall street, it would be nice if it would not require some sort of specialized stock exchange knowledge. It loses audience such as me who are not very well educated in that area.
A great cast, an amazing director and a story that can show you are deep people could go in Wallstreet.
