War Game Reviews
I left War Game with questions about the exercise’s purpose. I didn’t learn much and I’m not sure anyone in the situation room did either. That said, for capturing the precarity of the US government in such scary circumstances, this is worth your time.

While the presence of cameras and White House replica sets bring a touch of theatricality to proceedings, everyone taking part is fully committed to the exercise.

The nail-biting docu-thriller War Game imagines how a sitting administration might respond to another insurrection far more serious than the previous one.

This provides a lot of food for thought.

A curious film that freely speculates on possible future events.

It’s frankly terrifying stuff, and not recommended viewing immediately before bedtime.

The dramatics enacted here by an array of officials from the last five administration aren’t treated as a joke, and don’t feel like one.

The clock ticks; the moment bristles... January 6: but worse. The relentless, enthralling nonfiction thriller, devised and directed by Jesse Moss and Tony Gerber, is a heroic slab of narrative construction, improvisation, theater and political narrative.

As a simultaneously slick and provocative entertainment, “War Game” is chilling and a tad infuriating, offering a white-knuckle ride that may feel a bit too fresh in the memory for viewers who are still traumatized by the real thing.

This was fascinating, urgent and important.

If that’s not scary enough, “War Game” shows how social media and 온라인카지노추천 news could be weaponized against the legitimate government.

The participants are fully invested in their roles, responding to the threat and increasing pressure as if the future of our democracy truly was on the line. Because it is.

It’s incredibly tense and not the least bit reassuring, which makes this an essential watch.

It’s thrilling and chilling stuff, and if you’re a politics nerd, you’ll likely recognize some faces.

Making the most of their invitation to document this exercise, War Game adds a varnish of filmic aspects to give the proceedings a suspenseful energy and cinematic heft.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 8, 2024
A fascinating and dynamic investigation of American politics.
| Original Score: 10/10 | Aug 7, 2024
The gimmick and the subject matter it taps into are too salient for anyone but the most politically oblivious to not carry some impressions with them... Yet the film lacks any daring verve, the incisive potency that could have elevated it.

What might quell the anxiety of some viewers will likely ignite incredulity among others, particularly as the simulation concludes a bit too cleanly for our current moment of extremist rhetoric and action.
| Original Score: 6.7/10 | Aug 5, 2024
Ably taps into a gathering darkness present in society, but seems to have no thesis, one way or another, on whether American identity, and indeed the American experiment, can survive the savvy machinations of those who vilify democracy for personal gain.
| Original Score: B- | Aug 3, 2024
War Game concentrates a lot on the “how to” part. But it also says a lot about how eerily easy and how horrifyingly relatable the “why” of it all is.
