This is 80's perfection. Douglass and Turner at their prime.

This one was kindof weird. Very unfitting humdrum drama like performances for Douglas and Turner? It felt like neither of them brought their A game. DeVito's rather weird approach of framing this as a 3rd person story felt completely unnecessary. The result is a conclusion that is frankly pointless. Some good scenes I guess but Idk skip this one

The script is far more thoughtful than its given credit for (I like the subtle misogyny of Douglas' character) and DeVito keeps the film wonderfully bleak and hilarious.

"Once in a lifetime comes a motion picture that makes you feel like falling in love all over again. This is not that movie." Trust me, I know exactly what that movie is. I thought this is the third movie starring Michael, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito and all I get is a different movie with character names changing. First of all, in two films they have Jack Colton, Joan Wilder and Ralph and now they changed into Oliver and Barbara Rose and Gavin D'Amato. What the hell happened all that time? Apparently the film had no narration from Kathleen Turner just like in two films she did and she's not a novelist anymore and Danny DeVito is not a crook and Michael Douglas is not a hero anymore. All they have here is very different. I mean, yeah, Danny DeVito narrating and directing it and, yeah, this is going to be funny and, yes, this movie really is funny. The end battle is hilarious as f£$k and I also laughed at the scene that Oliver eats pate but thinks it's dog food. That had me laughing! The rest of the film is funny, hilarious and well acted. The cinematography is great, it's like something in the 40's and 50's. That's really impressive! If you think this is the third of the trilogy just like me, this is not the trilogy. This is a film that is different than any film with three actors/actress then I think The War of the Roses of the film for you. Give it watch and see if it'll laugh your @$$ off.

A funny movie about 2 people being mean & cruel to each other until the brutal final minutes

Appassionante dark comedy che riprende in chiave più ironica e meno giudiziaria temi quali la separazione e la gestione dei beni, sicuramente traendo spunto dal successo di Kramer contro Kramer. Molto ben rappresentato il vortice di avvenimenti che porta sempre più nel profondo i due protagonisti; e viene dato anche il giusto spazio alla parte che li fece avvicinare e agli anni di felicità. Probabilmente la scelta di mantenere tutto più sull'azione e sul sarcasmo, esclude di conseguenza lo sviluppo dei personaggi dei figli, che vengono quasi totalmente tralasciati togliendo alla pellicola drammaticità ma mantenendola più leggera.

This is terrible, hilarious satire. I watched their adventure films too, so I'm glad to see their willingness. But it's just not for me.

This is a very amusing film. Its pretty simple comedy I guess - visual, slapstick type comedy but I found it an easy and enjoyable watch. The script is fairly witty/sharp and there are some tense and borderline gripping moments as well as the funny ones. This film features a good cast and it makes for a decent watch as a comedy film - ok its a bit cheesy and some may think its a little too over the top but I enjoyed it as a bit of easy basic entertainment. Whats not to like?. So yes, I'd recommend it. I also liked that the wife really stood up for herself. I didn't always agree with what she did but I kind of respected her attitude for the most part anyway. This film does have a comic book feel to it but in a good way I guess - the characters are perhaps a little over animated but I enjoyed it, so, make of that what you will.

The nastiness of The War of the Roses that occurred in 15th century England pales in comparison to what goes on in Danny DeVito's take on marital relations in the 1989 film starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. It is ugly and mean spirited and corrosive but, more than anything, it is darkly funny. What starts as a sweet fairytale romance erodes into violent struggle for power and possessions as Oliver and Barbara Rose battle for dominance in their failed marriage. DeVito plays Oliver's lawyer, a seemingly unnecessary character who needlessly frames much of the story but, despite this, it is an otherwise well-written film that allows two A-list actors of the time to show off their considerable acting chops. The dinner scene alone ("I don't want to make a scene") is worth the price of admission.

Not funny watch hateful people argue, die.

This movie is hilarious. And is an excellent movie, Kathleen Turner, and Micheal Douglas work so well with one another.

I actually didn’t find it funny at all. Though the performances from Douglas and Turner are awesome, the story is a downright grim look at divorce and displays the ugliest qualities it can bring out in people

Everyone and everything about it is easy to hate.

I feel like this is how my marriage will go that’s why I never have done it 🤪. Except I’ll be significantly less successful than Michael Douglass . I really liked the delivery of the movie all told from the perspective of a divorce attorney warning his new client . If there is one negative, I saw this on a top dark comedy list and I didn’t particularly find it laugh out loud funny but I did really enjoy all in all . 3.4 . If we are picking sides I’m team Michael Douglas . Her using the letter was such a low blow . Dog people should stay with dog people

Kathleen Turner, Michael Douglas, and Danny Devito in a very wild, outrageous comedy falling in love is one thing but falling out of it is a whole other matter entirely especially if it involves literally throwing furniture at one another Devito as an attorney for divorce recalls the meeting of two people, Oliver and Barbara who met in a storm then fell in love and had children of course after 17 years things slowly spiral out of control as they both lose interest, start bickering over work, money, and having fare share of their earnings when they get divorced it becomes a 'war of the roses' between these two not wanting to part with their giant house in the process seriously, so much of their fighting back and forth turns way more crazy leading to fist fights, throwing furniture, etc.it's like two children trying to outdo each other this is almost like the pre-Mr. & Mrs. Smith without the secret operative angle present it's pretty sad how fast a happily married couple can fizzle out Devito has Turner and Douglas together with outstanding chemistry since they've worked multiple times in the past but they break away from the traditional romance they're used to How do you hold onto someone who won't stay?, how do you get rid of someone who won't go?, there is no winning, only degrees of losing, a man can never outdo a woman when it comes to love and revenge, if a man is with a woman for any length of time eventually he will ask what's wrong, when it comes to divorce what will you do; get through it as cleanly and quick as possible or try to find some semblance of happiness from your youth to salvage it? it's a crazy, over-the-top battle of the spouses showing how out of hand something like this can get, you never know how far both spouses are willing to go to extreme lengths
