Wetlands Reviews
Carla Juri does a wonderful job as a girl who is remarkably curious, unfiltered, and unashamed -- everything youth should be.

Gross and funny, the film wisely understands how to adapt Charlotte Roche's far more controversial and shocking source material in a way that's palatable to audiences. Carla Juri is a delight

An uncompromising comedy.

Wetlands is gross, complicated and dysfunctional and honestly I wouldn't want it any other way. The film, much like its protagonist, isn't an easy film to love, but those who look beyond the shock will find it has a heart.

Wetlands is a film that gloriously embraces a frank exploration of human bodily functions like no other, a veritable 'warts and all' endeavor, if you will, that's refreshing, funny, and most importantly, memorable.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Sep 5, 2019
A film that is always vibrantly alive with a sense of self discovery and even wonder - at the world, at life, at the human body, and it does so without any self consciousness or forced sincerity.

In spite of an early disclaimer that states "This book shouldn't be read or adapted to film," taken from a letter to the editor from Bild Online, you're glad Wnendt and company went ahead and did it anyway.

Wetlands is dirty, explicit, romantic, tragic, psychedelic, raunchy, sexy, repulsive fun, and I loved every minute of it.

... The film is packed with subtle, feminist riffs on romantic movie clichés...

This story is entirely Helen's, and there has never been a character like her in the history of film or literature.

Helen is really rad and funny and brave.

John Waters said that only through laughter you can open your mind to new and different points of view. I think that's what Wetlands is all about.

Wetlands is provocative, a test for the audience, and just when you think you've seen it all, the movie will challenge you in a whole new level.

Carla Juri easy on the eyes, but I got tired of the dead end flashbacks and fantasy sequences. I did not care for most of the gross-out scenes and I got tired of Helen's incessant narcissism, naïveté and irresponsibility as well.

"Wetlands" tells a fairly conventional story in about the most unconventional ways imaginable.

Even if Wetlands were far less entertaining, it would still be a calling card for Juri's star-is-born performance. The beguiled viewer watches her and thinks, "Bingo!"

The right viewer will find it a singular, even somewhat moving experience. And no film will provide better motivation for you to clean the bathroom this weekend.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Oct 10, 2014
So joyfully perverse, its shocks sometimes seem almost playful, which is refreshing as Helen works out her kinks by celebrating them.
| Original Score: 3.5/4 | Oct 9, 2014
A big blast of filthy energy.

Sets new standards for the frank spotlighting of bodily functions.
