Wetlands Reviews
... The film is packed with subtle, feminist riffs on romantic movie clichés...

Helen is really rad and funny and brave.

"Wetlands" tells a fairly conventional story in about the most unconventional ways imaginable.

Even if Wetlands were far less entertaining, it would still be a calling card for Juri's star-is-born performance. The beguiled viewer watches her and thinks, "Bingo!"
| Oct 16, 2014
An absurdly simplistic family drama; the movie's apparent audacity isn't even skin deep.

Yes, you could call Wetlands the anal anti-Amélie, but-although Wnendt is nowhere near as stylistically pedantic-this film has a certain Jeunet-like flamboyance that you'll either love or hate.
| Sep 18, 2014
Crass, vulgar, and brilliant.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Sep 18, 2014
The film's gleeful defying of taboos would not succeed without Juri in the starring role.
| Sep 15, 2014
Shocking and outrageous -- but in the best way possible.
| Sep 13, 2014
Wetlands is one of the most daring, visually arresting, innovative, and imaginative examples of filmmaking to come out of Europe in recent memory.
| Original Score: 3.5/4 | Sep 12, 2014
Its nastiness sings, instead of stings.
| Sep 11, 2014
Graphic, occasionally disgusting but sweet-natured and liberated.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Sep 11, 2014
It isn't terribly clear where the movie - or its hedonistic heroine - is going, but getting there is one wild ride.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Sep 11, 2014
"Wetlands" is more than just a film that shares far more about anal fissures than you ever wanted to know, it's a surprisingly sweet coming-of-age comedy brimming with punk-rock energy and an impressive performance from Swiss actress Carla Juri.

Women deserve their own gross-out movies, and, in Wetlands, the punk force is strong.
| Sep 5, 2014
An inventively sharp, briskly edited, spectacularly-acted post-adolescent coming-of-age story.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Sep 5, 2014
With her dirty-blond curls and angelic smile, Helen is fully alive in a way that's all too rare on our movie screens. She's not out to shock or sicken; that's your problem, not hers.
| Sep 4, 2014
Helen's view of life and sex may be unusual, but it's far healthier -- if that word has any meaning -- than, say, the pseudo-philosophy of Lars von Trier's joyless Nymphomaniac.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 4, 2014
Wetlands is here to freak out the prudes and make "dirty" fun again. That it does. You won't find a better movie anywhere that features a teen girl using her crotch to wipe a public toilet seat.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Sep 4, 2014
For its general ludic obsession with all things generally thought of as disgusting, the German film Wetlands is stuck in the anal stage.
