Wiener-Dog Reviews
Awful movie…stupid and nasty.
This film was rather disappointing. It was hardly funny and I found the stories to be mostly uninteresting. There wasn't even a direct chain of narration on the dog changing hands. I am a big fan of Todd Solondz and I love what he did with Happiness and Welcome to the Dollhouse, but Wiener-Dog missed the mark for me. I do not recommend. 52/100
How often do you get the chance to watch a movie where the message is People are terrible, life sucks, and artists(including the director of this movie) are no talent hacks and the successful people are the biggest phonies of all. Worst part is, you are the one that made the effort to watch it. You will feel like the director is laughing at you for being the latest sucker. Save yourself 90 minutes.
It is slow and tedious for much of the time, and it takes the majority of the film to realise it's not going anywhere, has nothing to say, and that the various owners' stories have nothing in common, and provide no overarching theme. Whilst watching, I couldn't help feeling it is trying to channel Napoleon Dynamite… and failing. There are a few genuinely funny moments, but nowhere near enough to say this is a comedy, or to redeem it in any way
One of the worst excuses for comedy I have ever seen.
Worst movie ever! The ending is not only suddenly tragic, but becomes literally unbearable to watch. The only reason to have this ending as it is is sheer idiocy and cruelty!
This movie was made by Satan himself. The abuse of an animal is not funny. The negligence of the first parents was horrible and as soon as they told the Son they murdered the dog and threw it in an oven and the little boy asked about God taking the Dog, then the Mom says we don't believe in God. I stopped the movie. Then seeing other reviews that the dog gets ran over 6 times. Thank you Jesus for not letting me finish this EVIL movie. For those who like it, you must be sick in the head. I pray the person who made this movie fails at his pathetic career. Because he is disgusting. I 💜 my mini weenie dog. Poor dog
I watched this movie earlier, many many hours ago actually and I am still seething... If I could punch a movie in the face, this would be the one. I know it's just a movie, I just did not get the point of it. I was cuddled up on the couch this chilly morning with my beloved dogs expecting a cute, feel-good movie about a Dachshund puppy (per the description and trailer) which turned into anything but. Whoever wrote this movie, I have serious concerns and questions. Basically, these writers think it must be so hilarious and funny (listed as a comedy movie) to watch a bunch of people/characters abuse an animal and hand it off from one irresponsible owner to another irresponsible owner for 2 hours only to then watch her get run over by cars repeatedly in an attempt at humor. I DON'T EVEN CARE about spoiler alerts, this movie is TRASH. Nonsensical bullshit. I know it's fictional, but it's NOT funny. And putting this kind of thing out there for so many people to watch, a lot of whom can't even think for themselves and have no moral compass, accomplishes nothing but evil. To believe or feel validated in perpetuating the abuse of animals when it's already a crisis situation.
Worst Movie I Ever SEEN!!! Depressing, slow and just not a good story line!!!!
Ridiculous waste of time, there is no point to the movie, the dog is abused through basically the whole movie and then ends with the dog getting run over like 6 times. Movie was basically made by Satan himself. If you like dogs skip this movie.
Through following the life of one unfortunate dog, the film shows the desolation in the lives of its adopters - random representatives of millions who hang out on the margins and endure their empty existence in silence.
Todd Solondz' Wiener-Dog consists of four distinct stories, linked only by a dachshund, dealing with a variety of subjects, including drug addiction, alcoholism, childhood cancer, failure, aging and a host of other grim topics. And it's a comedy. With the long takes, deliberately stilted and awkward dialogue, and bleak subject matter, it is clearly a film by Solondz. Those who have enjoyed his earlier efforts will love Wiener-Dog. Anyone who has turned up their nose at his other films or is not familiar with his oeuvre may be baffled by what transpires. The humor is as pitch dark as one could imagine, topped off with a shocking climax that is sure to anger a large percentage of the viewers. Remember one thing – it's just a movie…and a Todd Solondz movie at that.
This is a quite bleak film in some regards - its definitely not a feelgood, family friendly film overall, in terms of the tone and plotlines, with the ending very much one that will upset people who love dogs. The film features a good cast and some interesting storylines. I think the script could be better but it was a relatively ok watch. Nothing to write home about really and not a film to recommend to anyone looking for a cute, sentimental watch. I wouldn't entirely recommend this film as such, no.
for a movie with so many names attached, i really thought it would eventually lead somewhere that would justify all the weirdness. sadly, it did not. it's a stretch for me to consider a comedy.
I love sausage dogs, I like most of the cast in this and I'm a fan of black comedy. This film though? One of the worst things I've ever had the misfortune to see. Everybody's different but I genuinely can't see how anybody can be true to themselves and say they enjoyed this unless they're a deeply flawed individual. Hard to really sum up how much I hated this in words but yeah...I absolutely despised it.
Animal cruelty by ignorance and bad film making. If you love dogs, animals in general and were hoping for a laugh, or a happy ending. Do not watch this depressing saga!!! that gets worse as it meanders along. How not to treat a pet dog. The first scene starts on the wrong foot, whereby an innocent dachshund is loaded in a cage into the back of a ute/pickup that sets out on the road, I was thinking that's terrible and at that stage hoping this poor hound gets better treatment. Cruelty to animals by ignorance and selfishness is a highlight if that turns you on! The makers of this saga really must have no optimism and seek audiences that want to be depressed. I watched this through SBS on Demand and it was included in the Comedy category. Really, I can think of better ways to amuse myself than watching dysfunctional people who have no idea how to look after a dog. Owner after owner, or caretaker for this poor dog transitions a number of times with no explanation as to why the dog starts again with another person who has no idea how to care for a pooch. I hung in there, with sinking optimism that the ending would resolve itself with a happy home for this long-suffering, very patient lovely sausage dog. Then the movie really fails on all levels. The poor dog gets rather vividly runover by a semi trailer on a highway. Squashed and to make matters worse several vehicles runover the dead dog. That really sucked big time andis very offensive to an animal lover, who happens to have a lovely dachund dog in the family. Avoid at all costs. Danny Devito kinda is ok as he is a talented actor, but a really uninspiring performance. I plan to make sure not to ever watch anything made the depressing director Todd Solondz again. Avoid. Shame on you SBS on Demand for including this epic failure in the comedy category. It's not funny!
This film is fabulous. This film (like all of Solondz's films) are for true cinephiles and intellectuals. This will not appeal to the masses. This film is a piece of art, not worried about marketing and the ending was fantastic and fitting. I am a dog owner and lover and... Yes, you may be shocked at several points but 100% worth watching.
One of the worst movies I have seen in my life. Without sense, cruel, stupid, no argument. Must be banned.
Dark. Disturbing. Pretentious. Cold. Callous. Lifeless. Joyless. Devoid of comedy. Very unnecessarily long and monotonous. Morbid ending. I walked away feeling bad about the movie, and bad that I made such a poor choice in wasting my evening seeing this. The only message I got out of it is that people are rotten, but we all already knew that.
