Wilson Reviews
Harrelson and Dern's performances inevitably outshine their source material, as the film's sloppy third act will leave you with a bad taste in your mouth.

Harrelson, who over the last decade has built himself up into one of our best supporting players, is just fine as Wilson. There's no doubt the actor would have taken the character to greater extremes, but that's not what's asked of him.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Aug 17, 2021
Wilson has more than a handful of solid moments, but they are peppered between fairly stock observations about the way the world works, and how everybody tends to screw everybody else when given the chance.

Great performances by Laura Dern and Woody Harrelson make it a heart-warming experience.
| Original Score: B+ | Mar 13, 2019
Wilson has been a long time coming yet sadly it's a disappointment.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Mar 2, 2019
There's a certain brand of strange to this story and film, but it's well done and oddly touching.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 20, 2018
Director Craig Johnson and screenwriter Daniel Clowes get so caught up in the quirks of their lead character that they forget to build the film around the central character.
| Original Score: D+ | Dec 12, 2018
Much likes its eponymous character, Wilson isn't out to please everybody and is willing to push that just a little bit further and further in unexpected directions as it goes.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 31, 2018
Wilson ends up being more enjoyable than you might have expected.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 24, 2018
With an annoyingly unlikable central character and middle of the road humor throughout, "Wilson" is an irritating comedy that is nowhere near as funny as the source material.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 30, 2018
It's hard not to think that [Daniel Clowes] holds his creations, and the whole human race, in smug contempt, but Harrelson brings a blankly sad two-dimensional character to fully fleshed-out life.

Lacking in story and stakes, Wilson doesn't leave much of an impression beyond Harrelson's charismatic grousing. It's got plenty of heart but no soul.

Wilson ultimately feels incomplete and lacks fluidity. It misfires and derails without really getting to any particular point and loses a lot of momentum because of it.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Aug 14, 2018
Ultimate misfire though it may be, at least it's an artistically ambitious one, almost deserving of another half-star rating. Almost ...
| Original Score: 2/4 | Jan 29, 2018
Weak plotting leaves Wilson's Woody Harrelson and ace supporting cast stuck in neutral.
| Original Score: C | Dec 28, 2017
... Harrelson and Dern, even when portraying total screw-ups, are such winning actors they bring a fair amount of effervescence to the work.

Carried along by a brilliant performance by Woody Harrelson, "Wilson" is based on the very dark graphic novel by Daniel Clowes.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 29, 2017
Woody Harrelson surrenders fully to whatever traits have been defined on the page, never simply reading the scripted lines.
| Original Score: B+ | Sep 12, 2017
While the story takes him to some dark places, Clowes and director Craig Johnson (The Skeleton Twins) keep the film from becoming too grim.
| Sep 12, 2017
Mildly funny and ultimately able to find some pathos, Wilson nonetheless proves a dull entry into the world of downbeat literature that Clowes helped create with Ghost World
