Win Win Reviews
A really heart felt wholesome movie about doing the right thing. Witty with a great script and a great performance by the young actor playing Kyle. One to file under easy watching whilst having a 'lazy 'day.
Paul Giamatti is a national treasure. How has he not collected more awards? Some people are just more than we deserve I guess. The teenager in this is great too. Yeah I'm too lazy to Google his name. Check out my longer review: https://youtu.be/k2P2lmTCJnY?si=cZ5S2Jyi7HCM24oj
Giamatti is great in this heartwarming, funny and genuine movie. Has a few soft spots and the script could of been more taut but still a good movie.
Brilliant script, and an ensemble cast comprised of the very best character actors in the business. The film is funny, gripping, and artistic (wonderful use of symbolism throughout the film). In my top 10 favorite films of all time. I haven't recommended it to anyone who hadn't loved it.
Downbeat. Likable characters acting like real, human adults.
This was a more poignant film than I'd imagined it to be. I liked that we see things from both the teenage boys point of view and that of the makeshift father figure, lawyer Mike. Its about parental issues - dealing with tricky family situations and the like. Its a thoughtful film, with some amusing moments and I did feel emotionally connected to the characters, so I enjoyed the film. I certainly wouldn't say its primarily a film about wrestling - its about juggling different family issues and the strain that can have on you. I would recommend this film.
One of the best movies I have seen. Well done, Entertaining, and good story line.
Fantastic performances and solid direction makes what would have been a bland Court/Sports dramedy into something special
Struggling attorney Mike Flaherty owns and operates his own firm in his hometown in New Jersey. As of late Mike and his firm have fallen on hard financial times. In his off time Mike also doubles as a high school wrestling coach at his alma mater seemingly his mere escape from his own troubles. Using less then ethical measures which seems to be beneath him he convinces the court to allow him to take care of his wealthy and court appointed client, Leo, whose in the early stages of dementia and includes a $1,500 per month stipend to whoever cares for the elderly man. The only family Leo has is his estranged daughter who's been absent from his life for nearly 20 years. Mike promptly places Leo in a care facility whilst he still collects the questionable stipend monthly. The son of Leo's estranged daughter whom he never even knew existed lands on his doorstep only more complicating an already complicated situation. Mike is left with only one option, take in Leo's grandson Kyle while through his own methods attempt to locate Kyle's mother in order to keep his scheme going. Kyle is an avid wrestler but one with a checkered past proving to be a common love for the sport for both he and Mike. Knowing that Kyle's mother Cindy's inevitable resurfacing could prove to throw a wrench in Mike's seemingly perfect blueprint and only further complicating the relationships shared between Leo, Cindy and Kyle.
This movie was a welcome surprise! Paul Giamatti and April Ryan were great. This movie made me happy.
One of my favorites! This movie never gets old. The movie is stacked with great performances, the pacing never feels boring and it's one of the few high schooling wrestling movies out there. Booby Cannavale steals the show
I would have never picked this movie to watch, but it wasn't bad. Acting is good, there is a story here, it kept my attention. There is nothing earth shattering here, no big surprises. The characters are not that well done in the script, although Giamatti does a good job bringing his to life as an actor.
To Wake Up Without Any Hit. Win Win McCarthy's grant that comes along with family's business that is to be dealt with, has too much amount to fulfill your needs. This surprising delightful family drama has the heart in its right place, no matter how much obliged it is to the semantics of the structure or how mechanically complex it grows, McCarthy's schemes to keep a broad smile on your face throughout the journey is an appreciative and successful job. With light humor and breezier conversations, it keeps us at ease with warm cozy chemistry of the characters. McCarthy's world never takes charge, if there is an option directing towards the south it cannot ignore it and this is his ultimate weapon, for even at its peak there is a sense of maturity or immaturity of the characters to keep a socially pleasant expressions on the face and move accordingly. Addition to that, the unexpected turns and revelations in its trajectory is bewildering enough to bite your nails. The stakes might be immensely high, yet its projection of these imprinted plans, no matter how much less-cinematic is subtle enough to poke you off the edge, there is no need for any push. Giamatti in his middle aged and no so likeable character, is to be rooted for, from his inadequacy to smile or to clear out his intentions, he is a force to be reckoned with. And challenging him equally, lies Ryan's beautiful performance, as an overprotective mother and a fellow companion of Giamatti, she balance the film on a safer scale. The supporting cast like Tambor, Cannavale, Young and Shaffer are holding onto their parts convincingly. Win Win is a big win as a family drama pulsating across a breathtaking match and McCarthy's bluff of not delivering the last end of the track leaves you a bit wiser in the end.
This movie is overly melodramatic but is rescued by the excellent portrayal of interpersonal relationships and an interesting plot. Unfortunately, the movie's ending is somewhat abrupt and contrived.
"Win Win" might not have that indie, outsider aura that McCarthy's first two films had and a lot of people might find the finale a little too convenient, yet his personal stamp is all over it. The character of Mike Flaherty seems to have been tailor-made for Giamatti and the entire cast is very convincing, with Cannavale and Tambor stealing the show. "Win Win" is one more slice of real cinema, with multi-dimensional characters, good humour and realistic dialogues. Immersive despite its flaws.
Such an awesome movie! Paul Giamatti's performance was intriguing! This movie was hilarious! I enjoyed how the characters meshed so well together! I can't wait to see it again.
