Winner Reviews
An interesting character story that felt like it was something other than advertised, when it finally got to what was expected it seemed rushed and unimportant, and without a lot of emotion felt. The real shock comes from it not seeming like a big deal yet going about its ending as if it did. I’m all for shining a light on potentially corrupt government, so it gets a passing grade.
A great bio-pic that shows the moral balancing act among government and individuals and the reasoning they use for their actions. The film also does a good job of holding up a mirror to the public and how they tend to sweep away concerns that should be at least properly investigated.
Winner isn’t going to take home the award for best biopic. But as far as conventional biopics go, this is an important one. To get the full picture of events, this film pairs best with the MAX film titled Reality. The whistleblower Reality Winner is an American who was just trying to do something she believed every American had a right to know. The way our government treated her after was appalling. This film offers an entertaining and empathetic portrait of who Reality Winner is/was and what she ended up experiencing as a consequence of her actions. Definitely worth a watch.
Seemed well done and believable to me…
A battle between the truth and the lying US government. Acting was pretty good, and I liked the hard way she has to find out that you can't win against a lying govt. agency... but hey.. the show might feel dated because lying in the norm from politicians, to preachers, to corporations and lawyers... and everyday people.
If your not an "United States citizen" you will see and very brigth idea about what is the USA real plot to the world.
It's funny and definitely one time watch.
Funny, witty and sassy! I loved it.
'Winner' is a biopic about Reality Winner, a young woman whose life was upended when she decided she had to tell the truth even if it was against the law. Despite its weighty subject the movie manages to be funny and heartfelt. Great performances from all its cast. Emilia Jones is wonderful in the title role, as is Zach Galifianakis as her father. Definitely worth checking it out if you haven't seen it.
I really liked the movie. Acting and screenplay were solid. It's not for everyone but neither is Julian Assange. Most people don't want to know how a sausage is made
'Winner' is a decent biopic that offers a fresh look at a young woman whose life was forever altered by her refusal to remain silent.
I’m a Reality Winner super fan so I was really excited to see this film, and it did not disappoint. While REALITY, the affecting HBO film about the same person, took a docu-narrative approach, WINNER gives this complex American hero the full biopic treatment. It’s full of life - funny as it is enraging, and ultimately, truly inspiring. It informs without preaching, and entertains without pandering. A must see!
I loved this movie. It's funny and quirky, and manages to really humanize a fascinating young woman while also exploring darker themes of what it means to be a patriot and who gets to call themselves one and why. It feels like an especially important movie to see in an election year; but it manages to be joyful and touching at the same time.
