Winter's Tale Reviews
If not the absolute WORST film adaptation of a novel ever commited to film, it's gotta be among the bottom five. A grotesque misrepresentation, and a horrendous dumbing down, of both the book's themes and its sensse of wonder. Stay far, far away.
I loved it. If you love romance and fantasy, ignore the cynicism of the critics. It's just a beautiful story about the power of hope and true love and the triumph of good over evil.
A really good fairy tale like movie. I'm going to watch it again. Dont understand the low scores.
A sweet little movie. Suspend the cynical and critical and just enjoy an old-fashioned magical love story. The villain is pure evil and the hero is, well, Colin Farrell is truly at his 'hunkiest.' With popcorn on a cold fall night my family loved it.
A underrated movie filled with great characters. I loved this Romantic Fantasy. The ending made me 😭. Tim Treakle
It's the kind of of Hallmark Channel 온라인카지노추천 Movie schmaltzy sap we haven't seen on the big screen since the 90s and I can understand why. It is wall to wall clichés, and it would be funny if we weren't supposed to take this goofy story seriously.
Certainly it's a fanciful morality play about life, love, destiny & humanity. Farrell's Peter Lake a n'er do well put overboard from a ship as his parents are turned away from America is the focus. Why because they knew he was a miracle child. He ends up a thief & in the hands of Crowe who isn't exactly humane or human for that matter. He is somewhat saved from this path by his growing discontent & a Chance meeting with Brown Findlay a young woman who's dying from consumption. Crowe's Soames still wrecks havoc on the two destined lovers, believing he's crushed the destiny maker. Alas, his action sets in motion Peter's destiny. Fantasy wrapped in a story of good & evil, with Lucifer looking on, Peter finally accomplishes what he was destined to do even if it was a long time coming. Connnely, Hurt and Eva Marie Saint round out a great cast.
Unpleasant melodrama the amounts to little.
This is a seriously sentimental and cheesy film but its also quite amusing, even if it is in ways that perhaps the film makers hadn't originally intended it to be. For one thing, Russell Crowe's accent! well, thats something to behold, or to be heard I should, perhaps, say. It seems very over the top and its clearly intended to be regarded as a sort of a quirky fairy tale. Some aspects of the plot I liked more than others. If anything, it felt like Colin Farrell was perhaps slightly over emphasising his irish accent but then, I suppose (to be fair) its perhaps more likely that he subdues it when playing American characters, so maybe thats unfair. Its inevitable there are cliches here, with the whole plot concept being one of a young(ish) lady (a vulnerable one at that) falling for a young scalliwag. There are some scenes with relatively decent CGI too. Its mildly entertaining, a bit amusing and I suppose somewhat imaginative, although it did seem more like a longish 온라인카지노추천 show/온라인카지노추천 film, compared to a big Hollywood film. The plot becomes fairly complicated after a while and I believe its based on a 700 page novel, so I did struggle to fully grasp every plot detail but I thought it was ok. I wouldn't particularly recommend it as such, no.
There was some potential, but it was lost in the absurdity of the flying horse and unsuspecting demons. It's too bad, because that battle between heaven and hell fascinates me. I saw it for the epic cast and was surprised by Will Smith and Jennifer Connelly not being highlighted. Maybe it was a bad mark on their careers, so they didn't really publicize it. It was an STG DVD.
Such a great movie, I cry every time I see it and the love conveyed is what we all aspire to. Awesome cast who play their roles perfectly. In my top 10 movies of all time.
I would agree with Martin Scorsese's review on IMDb but for one important point. Bringing the entire written story to the screen would have been insurmountable. It was hardly possible that Akiva Goldsman could make this film without culling out the one thread that would bring an audience to theaters...and that is the love story. The Mark Helprin book is over 700 pages in length and encompasses two distinctive, fantastical themes; the triumph of love over adversity and that of evil, as it exists in all of mankind, and the struggle to defeat it by coming to terms with it. The love story has a beginning a middle and an end...and yet, does not conclude with the death of Beverly Penn. Peter Lake's quest for understanding the image he holds is realized when he discovers the "Miracle" he was sent to bestow. Yes, belief systems people hold must be suspended in order to fully appreciate what Akiva Goldsman has brought to us, however, the "White Horse" will take you there...with ease.
Fantasy & romance are my 2 least favorite genres, but this held up well.
This is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. I absolutely loved it. It awoken my heart, spoke to my soul, and made me believe in miracles.
A complete insane movie the writing is both confusing and stupid and the acting is wooden except for Russell Crowe and Will Smith who know this screenplay is stupid this Romance Drama should be seen by everyone how not to make a movie and if you give a Oscar winner writer and director to much creative control you get a amazing piece of garbage.
If you are looking for a heart moving movie the entire family can enjoy, this is it. This story has its own mythology that i have never heard of, borrowing icons from Christianity. There are a few hard words and a hint of nudity, yet not shown.. Much less than most 온라인카지노추천 programs now. It has the feel of the Golden Compass, with much better flow in my opinion. This love story has depth, quickly yet thoroughly builds characters, and has complete closure. Very few movies move me the way this piece if art moved me. I reallly cant believe this movie only has a 14% approval. I would have to say its one of the best movies i have seen and i am sorry i missed it when it first came out. The cast is great. The story is sweet and very deep. I was also surprised to see that it only earned $31 million on an $81 million budget.
This is strictly a chick flick which bored me. It stars Colin Farrell, Jennifer Connelly, & that chick from "Downton Abbey" (no, not Michelle Dockery). From what I saw, Farrell plays some sort of immortal fighting with the evil Russell Crowe & has Pegasus (or any other winged horse) as his trusty steed. Also the Fresh Prince as Satan? That just seems wrong (even if he did a decent job playing the part).
