This movie is hardly even fun bad and extremely predictable. Some scenes go in an interesting direction and are teased to build adrenaline but ultimately disappoint. It’s clear the intention here was to preserve a PG-13 rating probably for an easier money grab. The acting is also void of any accurate emotion.

The rating system on RT is wrong, I want to recommend this badly but for all the wrong reasons.

There's no horror watching that movie. Would rather call it a teenage mystery thriller. The story felt like an episode of Goosebumps. So if you like that sort of stuff, all along with the superficial and cruel highschool social dynamics vibe, you will be satisfied. Filming and editing was nicely done and plotwise it was convincing and interesting enough to keep me going to the end (and don't miss the mid credit scene!). The leading actress did a memorable job and there was overall surprisingly solid casting. and solid performances. I was happy to see Stranger Things' Shannon Purser in there btw! Also a plus was that they did some investigation on what the mystery is all about (I hate when they don't do that in supernatural/demonic occurrences movies) and voila, they dug out some intriguing legendlike backstory and there was also a little revelation in the end that closed the beginning of the plot full circle. For a movie that I randomly chose on a boring night while painting and didn't expect much from: 3 stars!

Para ser una película de presupuesto moderado, Wish Upon es una sorpresa inesperada. No se han hecho películas que se tomaran muy en serio la frase "Cuidado con lo que deseas" a excepción de la saga Wishmaster, pero esta película lo hace de una manera inteligente. Está claro que las críticas negativas que recibió son por la falta de compresión intelectual de los críticos o de la audiencia. Desde luego que es otra historia de adolescentes metiéndose en algo grave, pero eso siempre tiene sentido tomando en cuenta la ignorancia de los más jóvenes. La protagonista de esta película es alguien muy dolida por la muerte de su madre, tener un padre que recolecta basura y ser blanco de bullying. Al tener en su poder un objeto que concede deseos, parece que todo mejora, pero siempre hay un precio. Aquí la chica tiene un conflicto de sí mantener su nueva vida perfecta a pesar de las graves consecuencias, o si hacer lo correcto y renunciar todo lo bueno que se le ha dado. Muchos pensarán que lo que ella hace es egoísta, pero la realidad es que cualquiera con una vida difícil que tuviera en su poder un objeto así de poderoso estaría en la misma situación. Surge la cuestión de si alguien es capaz de sacrificar a sus seres queridos por cumplir sus deseos más ambiciosos. En esos aspectos la película es realmente buena e interesante. La forma en que concluye es realmente inesperada cuando parecía que la chica había encontrado una manera de librarse del objeto maldito. Definitivamente, Wish Upon es una película fascinante que juega bien con el concepto de que los deseos siempre tienen un precio y que nada es regalado. Mi calificación final para esta película es un 8/10.

Hated the movie overall but if I had wished for a good ending, that was it. If Joey king has a million haters, I am one of them. If she has one, it is I. If she doesn't have any, I am dead.

it's not too bad, but it's also nothing to write home about. i had a good enough time, and it was well produced for the most part. it's predictable, has a few groaners in the script, and is a simple monkey's paw story that's been done a million times. still, there's no real narrative issues, there's only two bad actors (they were babies), and it's very much watchable. i could take or leave the after credits scene, but i think it easily deserves better ratings than it's getting. it's definitely not an A list film, though. i think people are probably angry that they bought it on pay per view or in theaters and found it to be a little underdone, so i fully understand that. this movie is streaming for just the normal subscription price on a few networks, but if it was advertised as a blockbuster release in 2017 that's almost definitely why the ratings are so abyssmally low. for these reasons, and because the ending was absolutely chef's kiss, i am giving this a generous 3.5/5.

Wish Upon ist ein Horrorfilm von John R. Leonetti (Regie), das Drehbuch schrieb Barbara Marshall. Die Ähnlichkeit zu „The Box – Du bist das Experiment" ist nicht zu übersehen. An machen stellen schimmert auch ein schwarzer Humor durch, ob sich der Film erst nimmt? Ich meine „Wish Upon" ist stark für Anfänger oder Einsteiger (für Horrorfilme) gedacht. Trotz alle dem ich habe den Film genossen.

This movie is rotten for sure. It is boring and the plot is not interesting and original. It did not manage to be scary or thrilling but managed to be absolute garbage. If this movie was food, Gordon Ramsay would trash-talk it and get pissed. This movie is a mess and I do not even know what is good about it, maybe that it managed to at least be a movie. This movie is unhealthy, well it is rotten. When you watch it, like eating it, you take time out of your life like eating unhealthy food, but this movie takes away a lot. I did not find any interest or entertainment in watching this movie and I was bored. All it provides is some dumb magic music box that grants seven wishes but kills her relatives each time it does. This movie cannot be creative. This movie is anti-creative. I rate this movie a 3/10 (Rotten).

So, look... it wasn't a bad movie. It was entertaining for what it was. You have a low-budget teen drama with some mystical, horror elements and some recognizable faces. It came; it saw; it kept me entertained for 90 minutes. Mission accomplished.
