Working Girl Reviews
Whether intentional or not, Wade composed a story of metamorphosis and rebirth that transcends gender stereotypes.

If Mike Nichols had just stayed in his lane, we wouldn’t have gotten something that was so lightweight and ineffective.

Just as most of us would agree that it's better to be the boss than a secretary, it's also better to be slick than dull. Shallow at it is, Working Girl is the most entertaining American comedy of 1988.

Elegant, sophisticated, frigid, and hot. A nostalgic reminder, between champaign and vision, of the fine delusions of Carey Grant, Irene Dunne, and Myrna Loy in the thirties. [Full review in Spanish]

A buoyant, emotionally gratifying underdog story, one that manages to be touching despite any of its minor follies
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 29, 2020
It never tries to be too dark, even though audiences will suspect an appropriately mature resolution for the setup.
| Original Score: 9/10 | Sep 8, 2020
... a fairly conventional setup that's employed to predominantly entertaining effect by Nichols...

Some would call that a happy ending. I'm not one of them.

Mike Nicols's comedy is frothy, fast-moving and impeccably put together.

Melanie Griffith and Sigourney Weaver steal the show with their good guy-bad guy roles.

Its deft handling of feminist issues make it all the more ironic that it has been dismissed as trivial when in many ways it's the female equivalent of Wall Street.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Feb 23, 2015
Sexed-up '80s corporate tale with stellar cast.

How will the working class be educated to survive and thrive in the computer age? This intoxicating movie has an answer: let her strut her outer-borough wisdom from Wall Street to the Pacific Rim. Watch her fatten portfolios as she melts hearts.

It deliciously plays out as a modern day corporate Cinderella story for females.
| Original Score: B | Nov 13, 2008
Griffith's talent, energy, and sexiness give it some drive and punch.
| May 27, 2008
Funny, touching and tremendously buoyant, this is a feel-good movie with smarts.
| Original Score: 3.5/4 | May 27, 2008
Working Girl is enjoyable largely due to the fun of watching scrappy, sexy, unpredictable Melanie Griffith rise from Staten Island secretary to Wall Street whiz.
| May 27, 2008
A top-drawer romantic comedy with all the right ingredients in place.

In Mike Nichols' fairy tale about the workforce, Melanie Griffith gives a charming performance as an absued scretary who decides to take charge of her life and in the process also gets the lover of her bitchy boss (well played by Sigourney Weaver).
| Original Score: B+ | Feb 29, 2008
80s corporate hokum rescued by another very funny turn from Sigourney Weaver.
