Working Girl Reviews
A great movie filled with outstanding performances. Tim Treakle
Nowadays the clothes, etc, seem rather dated but don’t let that fool you. With heavyweights like Harrison Ford & Sigourney Weaver that in itself should say something. It’s a good storyline about Melanie Griffith’s trying to climb up the promotion ladder with a degree & good acumen. It’s only by bending the rules that she finally gets ahead to achieve something. H Ford has a lovely character to play with & S Weaver is eventually the bad guy. Good casting also with periphery characters from Joan Cussack & Alec Baldwin. It’s a good film after a bad day to lighten the mood and one of my long term favourites.
Such a fabulous ‘80’s classic! And the HAIR! Just so fun
Girls need to support each other. Watched on DVD.
classic and enjoyeble
I am very grateful to the director for showing the problems of not trusting each other, cheating on the people you trust, etc. in this movie. Thank you for choosing the roles of the actors who played in it
The movie was a very exciting adventure from start to finish
Cinematically, Working Girl captures the beauty of Lower Manhattan while also showcasing late 1980s zeitgeist like few others. Fundamentally a comedy, the story is also uplifting. It promises that even quiet, mousy characters can make it with talent, honesty, and a little gumption and that bad people will be punished for their misdeeds in the end. It features a noteworthy theme song and a cast that has become more star-studded with time. I would definitely watch this again.
Entertaining flick but jesus the women in this film - the hair and makeup, WTF?! The 80s had some great gifts but the fashion was not one of them for me. 😅
This is very much a dated film. Its categorised as a comedy, a rom com I think but I didn't find it funny. Watching pervy men flirt with an 'ambitious secretary', nah, not my thing. Sigourney Weavers character, Katharine Parker, was probably the most stand out, if any. I don't think Tess was a character I found it easy to feel too sorry for, even though its clear she's subject to a certain amount of misogny. The female stereotypes are too cheesy and annoying and the chemistry with certain cast members didn't feel or seem especially genuine, so it didn't really work. Oh and also, some of the dialogue was a bit hushed, which I find frustrating. I wouldn't recommend it, no.
Mike Nichols was an elite filmmaker that specialized in balancing mature comedy, classical drama and questionable romance. With 'Working Girl' Nichols' touch is completely absent in the screenplay and it's clearly a loose adaptation of the Cinderella archetype/story. That's where the film doesn't exceed beyond the common romcom fare found in the 80's.
There's a type of hollow plot that's always recycled in cliché movies over and over again. This movie has this plot, except it fills the hole in the donut. The smaller complexities within the plot turn it all around into a decent lighthearted story. And I bet Working Girl was quite the progressivist picture back in its time.
An entertaining Cinderella rom-com, combined with Nichols's direction, Wade's script, the performances of the cast, Simon and Mounsey's score, Ballhaus's cinematography, O'Steen's editing, Brandenstein's production design, DeTitta's set decoration, Roth's costume design, production and entertainment values, Working Girl utilizes the right combination of filmmakers and performers to tell a sweet and good natured story!!!
Loved this film to bits! Though complicated at times, it's no less fascinating :D
Not great but the acting is.
Oversexed, with quite a bit of its female nudity unnecessary. A well-made, entertaining film with smart charm. Unfortunately, the business social problems it addresses with regard to gender, poor ethics, and the catch-22 corporate ladder are still relatable today.
