Zero Charisma Reviews
The movie is pitch perfect I know guys like Erik and I know guys like miles, the actors nailed it making it hysterical and identifiably awkward and sad at times.
Zero Charisma isn't for everyone. The movie expects a familiarity with Dungeons & Dragon style tabletop RPGs and the gamer culture. If you're completely unfamiliar with either, avoid this film. The story follows a snarky, anti-social Dungeon Master named Scott who unwittingly welcomes a charismatic hipster into his players circle who shakes up the world he once controlled. Actually, my description oversells the movie just a bit. The movie is fairly dull and most of the jokes are dead on delivery. The film seems lost on its own point, and in the end, it fails to have any point at all. Avoid this one if you can.
Not the unrealistic glamorous portrayal of D&D you usually see, this is an extremely realistic and painful depiction of how the game really is, for better or worse.
King of the geeks, this is a movie about a guy who is exactly what you would expect from a super mega geek. He is the game master of a D&D style type game, with wizards and trolls and such, which basically means he comes up with the quest type missions things that they go on. His world completely falls apart when a new player comes into his game and is too cool, cause he is a geek with a girlfriend and he has a successful website, and the he does things like throwing a sword at his characters head cause he was bored. After that it is a journey in to the geek version of heart of darkness. Apocalypse now for geeks. It has decent acting for what it is trying to do, but is a little hard to watch in parts due to some very uncomfortable situations. 2 Beards Out Of 5
I really enjoyed this movie. Most certainly a dark comedy, it was well done ESPECIALLY if you have played D&D.
A movie about a group of tabletop role players. None of them are very likable. Seriously. It's as if a close minded jock from the 80's make up some characters and a story to go with it. I doubt that that is the case, but that's how it feels. Don't waste your time.
True to its name, the lead character is a jerk, which makes it really difficult to empathize with him. I knew guys like this in high school and college. I didn't like them then, either.
Very dark character study of a damaged person that is painful to watch at times and doesn't exactly provide any catharsis or character growth. But it does paint a vivid picture of one sad, sad man and his world.
After seeing this, obviously my problem is an ending. closure to the movie. while you end on a happy note, and the main focus of the film may relate to some, i feel as if there are many questions unanswered at the end of the film. Is this trying to portray the life of a real person, or just giving a sad story that may be compelling to some, but not most of the general audience? The questions left unanswered, while giving hope in a certain view, to certain people, leave a large gap at the end for the rest. the only reason I give this 3 is because I can in some ways relate the the main character.
Zero Charisma is such a perfect encapsulation of the world of debased nerd-dom that it will lack general appeal. Still, Zero Charisma is a smarter film than many of its contemporaries. The characters and their problems are real and heartfelt, their interactions smart and believable. The same truth, however, is that there isn't much development for the main, and only important, character (Scott Weidemeyer). The film is instead for of an exposition of his issues, with very little evolution of the underlying issues.
A pretty funny and enjoyable film that is character driven revolving around a stressed out and frustrated young man.
A small-scale character study that avoids banishment to the land of mediocrity because of Sam Edison & Anne Gee Byrd's strong performances. Formulaic and a little too low on laughs, but bound to find its niche audience (of which I am not) over time.
