You: Season 5 Reviews

May 16, 2025

Ultimately, tedious. Nothing learned, nothing concluded. More of what you like and dislike of the show but copied again and again.

Honestly a great series ruined by a terrible ending. SPOILERS: How did Kate survive that fire let alone the wounds? How did Brontë survive being drowned and managed to find and confront Joe deep in the woods? What happened to Peach Salingers private investigator we saw in a cliffhanger from season 1? What about the jar of pee from season 1 as well? So many loose ends and unexplainable moments that leave the viewers scratching their heads. I understand Brontë was supposed to be the girl to finally “break the cycle” of falling for Joe but she was just so hateable. I dislike how they tried to make her seem like THE main character who takes down Joe when her association with him had been so short-lived. I would have much rather seen a 15 minute fight scene with the rest of the episode being a detailed explanation of how the court trial went making references to key witnesses like Nadia, Marianne, and other alive victims. The story focused too much on trying a huge coming back full circle emphasis with Joe being in New York and Brontë having a connection with Beck (which doesn’t even make sense considering they didn’t even seem to have that deep of a relationship). There was just so many issues and unresolved loose ends that made the ending so underwhelming. The only redeeming factor about the ending was seeing Joe finally get to rot in jail alone. Awesome series, underwhelming ending.

The first episode of Season 5 threw me off because it lagged. Then things picked up thereafter to where I was hooked to the very end. Lots of twists and turns, excellent acting as always, and an engaging plot. Some things I caught that made me suspend disbelief--like how did Joe transport Maddie's body out of a business bldg. that has lots of cameras? Second, the Moody bookstore has no smoke detectors/alarms? Third, how can Bronte suffer a gunshot wound, be almost drowned, yet have the strength to stalk Joe before the final takedown? I think the strongest negative is all the f-words, every other line of dialogue. I didn't count them, but if they reached over 300, I wouldn't be surprised. One would think that characters so engrossed in literature would have better ways of communicating their anger than everyday vulgarities. Still, Season 5 is a recommended watch.

I reduced my rating for this series after watching Season 5. In my opinion, it's the weakest season so far. The storyline felt poorly written, and the acting, especially from the characters Clayton, Dominique, and Phoenix was quite disappointing. It felt more like a low-quality teen drama. In the previous seasons, Joe was portrayed as highly intelligent and nearly impossible to track down. But in Season 5, he gets discovered by three TikTokers? That just didn't feel believable. If Joe ends up going to jail, he deserves a much better final confrontation,it shouldn't feel like a children's drama. The last episode was particularly frustrating. Brontë supposedly died underwater, only to return with a gun. Kate nearly died in a fire at the bookstore, yet returned with just minor injuries. And somehow, all the surviving characters went on to live perfect fairy-tale lives. It just didn't feel earned. Overall, I'm very disappointed

In spite of the unbelievable storyline, it was a fun ride. Little Harry will be following in Daddy's footsteps!

Overrated glorification of stalking, killing, torturing, lying, cheating, and manipulation. I understand this is a show but particularly the glorification of stalking and killing sends the wrong message to impressionable viewers. This story should not have been adapted into a show The performances have no depth. The rest of the series is the same garbage.

I liked the last season, but the first season is my favorite. I do like the poetic ending. It did drag on a bit long.

Such a dissapointing ending. People shouldnt habe survived what happened to them

good show, until the ending. I don’t understand why Kate didn’t get reprimanded for using Joes past to her own benefit to kill two people. And, gets to live as this “hero” in Henry’s head. I would’ve been fine if they gave her a little time with parole, but to let her off without consequence is a stretch. And for those who’ll bring up Maddie, she gets a pass, because it’s Maddie lol.

Clumsy terrible season finale. First couple of seasons were absolute Gold. Always hate to see one of your favorite shows descend into complete bollocks.

Best season after the 1st.... Glad they eneded it, show needed to weap up. The 4th season was the weakest but this one made up for it. The ending was good, best way for the character to end in my eyes. Ranking the seasons 1, 5, 3, 2 & 4. The End!

I would have given this entire show (all seasons) five stars. They were great! Worst ending I could have imagined. I wanted to see Joe walk free in Canada with Henry. Not dickless Joe in a cell! Horrible!

Actually really enjoyed how they ended it. There were some solid moments and thoughtful points. Yes Bronte starts off annoying, but she redeems herself I felt and ultimately liked where her character went.

They had a chance to say goodbye to this highly entertaining, unserious cheesy drama with a blast but instead it was just weak replacement of gimmicks they already used multiple times.

You Season 5 is definitely worth a watch, continuing the series’ signature blend of suspense, psychological intrigue, and sharp writing. Penn Badgley once again delivers a stellar performance as Joe Goldberg—chilling, charming, and endlessly watchable. This season cleverly explores Joe as a writer, adding a new layer to the narrative. The dynamic between Joe and Bronte—both writers—offers opportunity for plot twists. Unfortunately, the finale doesn’t live up to the rest. The final episode feels rushed, implausible, and lacks the careful suspense that defined the series. Bronte surviving a bullet wound, a broken ankle, and near-drowning—only to then track down Joe when trained authorities couldn’t—stretches credibility too far. It feels like a forced twist that undermines the show's grounded psychological tone. There were several missed opportunities to end the series in a more powerful, resonant way. One intriguing option could’ve been revealing the entire saga as fiction—a book Joe or Bronte wrote—blurring reality and narrative. Or perhaps a time jump to Joe’s son, Henry, grown and following in his father’s footsteps, would’ve provided a chilling legacy twist. Despite its unsatisfying ending, Season 5 is a compelling watch overall. Longtime fans will still find much to enjoy, but they may be left wishing the series had stuck the landing. Rating: 3.5/5

You lost its way in season 4 but season 5 is a laborious affair that drags on far too long. The final episode was arguably the best (albeit most implausible) and by then, I just didn’t care how it ended, which was fortunate because it’s underwhelming.

Great series ruined by a HORRIBLE ENDING, how did bronte survive a gunshot? being drowned? then finding and catching up with a sprinting Joe in the middle of the woods while having a broken ankle. How did Kate survive the fire? again she was shot, knocked out with a hammer leaving a pool of blood around her head instantly, the fact kate even awoke after that to the. hit joe is stupid. Unbelievable ending ruined this great story.
