3.5/5
X Plus Y (2014) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley It's pleasingly moving.

3.5/5
Money Monster (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Foster's film is nevertheless one of the best big-budget flicks of the year so far, and should please any punters out there who have been financially screwed (and yes, that's everyone reading this).

2.5/5
Queen of the Desert (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Kidman, Franco, Lewis and Pattinson (of course) are all stiffly uneasy here.
Posted Jun 03, 2016
2.5/5
Now You See Me 2 (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Even with that cast, a serious budget and endless swooping camerawork and FX trickery, this remains gratingly silly, with director Jon M Chu handling everything with maximum cheesiness.

3/5
God Willing (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Morante, Spada and Gassman are pretty strong here under Falcone's direction, and yet Giallini rather overacts.

3/5
The Nice Guys (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley While you'll probably laugh at the stars' buddy-movie shenanigans, you'll certainly hate yourself in the morning for it -- even if this director never does.

4/5
Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley New Zealand has never looked more breath-taking (and fearsome) and the performances are all tremendous here.

4/5
Another Country (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Having Reynolds' film rest upon Gulpilil's frail shoulders was also a wise decision.
Posted May 26, 2016
2.5/5
Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Lewis Carroll fortunately only wrote two Alice books, which therefore means that, strictly speaking, there can't be a third film in this irksome series... or can there?
Posted May 26, 2016
3/5
The Meddler (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Susan Sarandon is the best reason to sit through it, as she offers a performance that's by turns charmingly funny, bitingly sad and convincingly annoying.
Posted May 25, 2016
3.5/5
Love Is Strange (2014) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley John Lithgow and Alfred Molina... deliver wonderful performances as long-in-love older gents kept apart by the real estate market (a familiar story, and not just in New York, it seems).
Posted May 23, 2016
3/5
X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley The young cast of Xers are all pretty good and some of the action scenes are expensively impressive, and yet this feels a little strained and overly familiar at times.

3.5/5
Harry & Snowman (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley When this elderly man gets all choked up as he stands solemnly at Snowman's memorial headstone, 40 years after the beloved critter's passing, chances are you will too.
Posted May 18, 2016
3/5
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Chances are you'll still respond to the dark wit, but you probably won't be, ahem, Lima Yankee Foxtrot Alpha Oscar.

2.5/5
The Boy (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Seriously average.
Posted May 17, 2016
2.5/5
The Take (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Elba is really the best reason to catch this lowbrow, ever-so-slightly-cursed-feeling effort.
Posted May 17, 2016
2.5/5
The Angry Birds Movie (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley It IS only a movie for kiddies, but really, come on! Surely they deserve something better?
Posted May 17, 2016
3.5/5
The First Monday in May (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Sumptuous and entertaining no matter where you stand on the whole fashion thing.
Posted May 12, 2016
3.5/5
Florence Foster Jenkins (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Grant is delightful here and Helberg just about steals it in a winningly camp turn, and yet this is naturally all about Meryl, who makes Florence so fabulously high-spirited you can't help but like her.
Posted May 11, 2016
2.5/5
Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Anyway, it's all pretty ludicrous... there's not much else here that's worth giggling at, no matter how extreme the gags involving vomit, tampons, dope, scrotums and roofies might get.

3.5/5
Observance (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Sims-Dennett's ambitious low-budget effort obviously borrows riffs from Eraserhead, The Shining and other classics, but it's very much its own film. And a bloody creepy one too, mate.

3.5/5
The Man Who Knew Infinity (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley This is all about Patel's characterisation, and while this London-born actor has been excellent before, here his measured, restrained playing holds the film together, and we wind up adoring this extraordinary man who really went to infinity -- and beyond.
Posted May 11, 2016
4/5
The Silences (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Seriously brave and sometimes awfully moving.
Posted May 11, 2016
2.5/5
Mother's Day (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Labor Day? That title's taken. Groundhog Day? And again. Friday The 13th? Um... hey yeah, that could work!
Posted May 03, 2016
3.5/5
Captain America: Civil War (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Naturally this is all cluttered and overstuffed to the point of bursting, and yet the convoluted feel and overfamiliarity of much of the plotting is compensated for by the Russo brothers knack for gargantuan action, some tough laughs and real acting.
Posted May 03, 2016
3.5/5
Truman (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Barcelona-born co-writer/director Cesc Gay's study of friendship and fate is wryly funny and mercifully free of the wailing and hand-wringing that would surely fill any potential American remake.

3.5/5
A Month of Sundays (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Admirably subtle and sometimes sweetly funny.
Posted Apr 27, 2016
3.5/5
Eddie the Eagle (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Go on, you know you'll love it, and if you don't, well, you can go jump.
Posted Apr 26, 2016
3.5/5
Midnight Special (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley [Midnight Special] occasionally feels like it's going off the rails -- and off its head. And yet Nichols' cast is so good and his handling so assured that it never quite flips out.
Posted Apr 26, 2016
3.5/5
The Jungle Book (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Jon Favreau's attempt is distinguished by some truly spectacular CG animated visuals, a cast of fine star vocalists and a not-too-heavy-handed environmental message replacing Rudyard's racist subtexts.
Posted Apr 19, 2016
2.5/5
The Divergent Series: Allegiant (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Just as tediously self-important, laden with blabbing exposition and full of Hunger-Games-esque rip-offs as the others.
Posted Apr 19, 2016
2/5
The Boss (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley While the game co-stars here suggest that this is going to suddenly become amusing it never really does
Posted Apr 14, 2016
4/5
Wide Open Sky (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley First-time writer/director Lisa Nicol's study of Australian conductor Michelle Leonard and her Moorambilla Voices Choir is one of the great documentaries in a year in which the form is curiously absent from cinemas.

3.5/5
Rams (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley A pleasingly modest and sometimes incredibly moving film.
Posted Apr 12, 2016
2.5/5
The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Mirror, mirror, on the wall, which tedious sequel is yet to bore?
Posted Apr 12, 2016
4/5
Where to Invade Next (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley This is a return to Moore at his best and subtlest, with fewer show-off visual stylings, a more focused rage and a moving sense of melancholy.
Posted Apr 07, 2016
3.5/5
Labyrinth of Lies (2014) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley [Labyrinth Of Lies offers] strong playing, fine period detail and a cautious tone.
Posted Mar 31, 2016
3.5/5
Microbe and Gasoline (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley This features fine, sometimes agreeably undisciplined work from a cast of unknowns, a lived-in and grungy look, and a line in curiously real hormonal concerns.
Posted Mar 31, 2016
3.5/5
Eye in the Sky (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley A surprisingly gripping and troubling experience.
Posted Mar 31, 2016
2.5/5
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley This is one for die-hard fans of the first flick and just about nobody else.
Posted Mar 31, 2016
2.5/5
Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley This nearly-five-years-later follow-up to the second effort's again flat and strained, although the animation is even snazzier.
Posted Mar 29, 2016
3/5
A Bigger Splash (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley This overheated, extravagant and indulgent epic (a sort of remake of Jacques Deray's La Piscine -- perhaps) is often fun, although after a while you do wind up wanting to strangle the cast in desperation.
Posted Mar 29, 2016
2.5/5
London Has Fallen (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Unusually nasty, even for this sort of bloody, blokey shtick.
Posted Mar 23, 2016
3/5
Zootopia (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley This has enough light wit and gooey sentiment for Disney groupies, and yet it does leave many unanswered questions.
Posted Mar 23, 2016
4/5
The Daughter (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley There's perhaps rather a lot going on here and yet Stone's handling is assured and impressive, and the performances are exquisite, with particularly strong work from Rush, Leslie, Schneider and a punky-haired Young.
Posted Mar 23, 2016
3/5
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley It's almost too much to take in, meaning that by the time we finally get to the titular grudge match you could well be over it. Nevertheless, there are elements here that work strongly and even spectacularly.
Posted Mar 23, 2016
3/5
The Finest Hours (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley This is agreeably exciting and tense at times, despite the fact that it's obvious that very little of it is, you know, real.
Posted Mar 15, 2016
2.5/5
Triple 9 (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley The glowering performances, jittery camerawork, odd script contrivances, nagging incoherence and endless testosterone-spraying make it a criminally unlikable experience.
Posted Mar 15, 2016
2.5/5
The Brothers Grimsby (2016) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley It goes on and on and on and on and on and on, getting less and less funny and more and more tedious. Orright?
Posted Mar 15, 2016
4/5
The Witch (2015) David 'Mad Dog' Bradley One of the best (and creepiest) movies of the year so far.
