Suspiria Reviews

Apr 28, 2025

It's like stepping into a living nightmare when I first watch Suspiria, but in the best and most beautiful way possible. From the first scene, the film looks extremely different from any other. From the crazy, bold colors, the eerie lighting, and the surreal set designs, it makes you feel like this story is just a twisted fairy tale. Director Dario Argento did an amazing job of telling his story through the mood, atmosphere, and pure terror of the film. The music in the film gave me chills as it's the first time in forever I felt quite creeped out from a horror film. The direct story is simple, but is told beautifully by its soundtrack, setting, and characters, which makes Suspiria that much intense. If you love horror that feels more like art than just jump scares, this is the movie for you!

From previous experiences with horror movies, I’ve noticed that a good amount just focus on the “horror” aspect and nothing else. I don’t think this is fully the case with Suspiria. While it’s technically considered a horror movie, I personally didn’t feel that sense of waiting on a jumpscare every few minutes. I also wasn’t the craziest fan of the acting. I think the combination of the camera work with the bright colors played a factor in why I couldn’t stop watching. At times, the bright red and green contrasts that appeared on their faces and the walls felt like I was some sort of weird dream. While I wouldn’t recommend it strictly for the acting and the plot, I would definitely recommend watching it the way I did (middle of the night, lights off, and strictly enjoy the camera work mixed with the soundtrack.)

Watching Suspiria for the first time was a wild and creepy ride. As someone who is much more used to newer horror movies, this one felt really different. The story is about Suzy, an American student who goes to a ballet school in Germany, only to find out it’s run by witches. The movie is super colorful, with crazy lighting and music that makes everything feel intense and weird. It doesn’t rely on jump scares like most horror movies do today, but instead builds this strange, creepy feeling that sticks with you which I personally thought has a lasting impact. Some scenes felt a bit old fashioned, but the movie's style and mood kept me interested the majority of the time. It’s definitely one of the weirdest horror movies I’ve ever seen and I don’t think I’ll forget it anytime soon.

I just finished watching Suspiria and I’m not really sure how I feel about it. It’s about a girl named Suzy who goes to a ballet school in Germany and then weird stuff starts happening. People are dying and it turns out the school is connected to witches or something. The best part of the movie is how it looks and sounds. The colors are really bright and kind of strange but cool. The music is really loud and creepy and it definitely makes the movie feel more intense. The reason I gave it a 3 out of 5 is because the story didn’t always make sense. A lot of stuff felt random and confusing. The acting wasn’t that great either and some of the lines felt awkward. Overall it was interesting to watch and had a cool style but the story wasn’t that strong. I get why some people like it but I don’t think I would watch it again.

Suspiria Review After watching the film, I can say that it was actually quite interesting. I'm not a fan of horror films, or thrillers, but this one just kept me hooked. After the scene where Suzy was entering the school and she saw Pat running away from it, I immediately knew that there was about to be something very off about the school. Once Pat got murdered I think the film just immediately had a downward spiral from there. From these points on in the film I was completely hooked and on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what the next big/scary moment was going to be. Overall I would probably rate this film about an 8.7/10 overall, and I think that I would probably recommend this film to a friend who enjoys psychological thrillers.

The thing the stood out to me most in this film was the visual styled. I thoroughly enjoyed that aspect and it is honestly the main reason I continued to watch the film. The plot was definitely not all that and did not make much sense to me at times. I also felt like there was no character development. This horror film is definable unique when it comes to the way it was presented but because of the plot just being “meh” I do not love it. Would I recommend? Honestly, I don’t know. You could go without watching this movie and you won’t be missing out but I don’t think it’s a waste of time if you do decide to check it out. The film is very creative but the acting and plot was alright at best.

Full warning, I am not a fan of horror movies so my view may be biased. That being said, I do think any true horror fan would enjoy this movie. The special effects are not very good, but that’s expected from an older film. The mood is portrayed excellently from well-timed pauses to up the tension, to the whispers and threatening music. The storyline is rather interesting and if I didn't dislike gore and weren’t so easily scared, I’d rate this movie better. I don’t want to give much of the plot away, but I will say it feels a bit cliché, while also being one of the originals that created that cliché. I also loved how it went straight to the horror aspect right from the start with the rain, dark shadows on the character’s faces, and chilling music. The suspense starts right from the beginning of the film, even before the first murder shown within the first ten minutes. Overall, my rating of 3.5/5 is made in mind for someone who doesn’t like horror, so please keep that in mind when deciding if you want to watch this movie or not.

"Suspiria" (1977) is honestly one of the most visually stunning horror films I've ever seen. Directed by Dario Argento, it's about an American ballet student named Suzy Bannion who joins a prestigious dance academy in Germany, only to find out that it's hiding some really dark secrets. The first thing that blew me away was the use of colors; it's like every scene is a piece of art. The intense reds and blues create this surreal, almost dreamlike atmosphere that's both beautiful and super frightening. The soundtrack by Goblin is another highlight—it's uncanny and really sets the mood. There are moments that genuinely gave me chills. If you're into horror and haven't seen it, you absolutely need to. It's more than just a film; it’s an experience that lingers with you. Totally recommend it!

Suspiria definitely has some horror elements to it. For it to be a cult film, I didn’t find it to be weird or odd. They are dramatic with the blood and I love that. The film itself is really colorful and it has its moments where it has great cinematography. The most famous scene from this film has to be when the girl is hanging. The film is basically about this girl going to a dance academy in Germany and she starts to see odd things. It didn’t take her long to realize that there were a lot of deaths going on in the academy. It turns out, it was an academy with witches. In the end there's a grand witch that makes an appearance. The film is overall a good film overall. Jessica Harper is one beautiful star!

Visually stunning hybrid of supernatural and giallo horror that effectively contrasts lavish sets and lighting with cold brutality to create an atmosphere of ever-intensifying dread. Slow-burn direction by Dario Argento, an iconic performance by Jessica Harper, and a thrilling soundtrack by Goblin combine for an experience that is both immersive and terrifying.

Loved it back in the day. Visually stunning. Very stylized and effective. Loved the sound design and the brilliant score as well. A horror.classic.

If you are looking to give yourself a headache, watch Suspiria, was directed by Darrio Argento in 1977. The music in the background is like fingernails on a chalkboard. It is not the worst movie out there, but it’s pretty bad. I enjoy horror movies, but this one was annoying. The movie is a bout a dance school in Germany that may be possessed or run by witches. Some of the girls in the movie get murdered and a service dog attacks and eats its owner. I might have enjoyed the move more if the soundtrack did not have such a screeching sound. I didn’t get invested in the character because they seemed so shallow. There was not enough depth into the storyline or characters’ personalities. This was a hard movie to get to the end of, but I wanted to see what happened. I felt board watching this move. I don’t know if it was the way the camera shots and angle were the problem, but I felt lost watching this movie.

Suspiria (1977) is like stepping into a wild dream where everything is colorful and chaotic, almost like you stumbled into a witch's party! The colors are so intense that they make my old box of Crayola crayons look dull and boring. And the soundtrack? It's like a creepy heartbeat that will have you moving in your seat—definitely not what you’d want for a chill night! With plot twists that will spin your head and characters who make some seriously questionable decisions (I mean, who takes dance classes in a spooky school?), this movie is a fun mix of horror and dance. If you’ve ever wanted to see ballet combined with a horror flick, lace up your shoes and get ready for a crazy adventure! Just remember to steer clear of the candy!

Hard to recommend film so hard to watch! Strong cringe times! Also cacaphony soundtrack in foreground, not back. (Crazy tune now stuck in head.) Well done but watch/hear at own peril. (Maybe use blinders and earplugs.)

The cinematography and musical score are absolute works of art. This movie is intense and gory from start to finish. It is one of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen! I immediately told my fellow horror fans and movie buffs to watch this one.

One of the best movies I've ever seen. The reason I can't give this a perfect score is due to two or three dated performances in the movie that takes you out, but please, this movie is amazing. The mystery aspect of the movie is so intriguing due to the insane events that transpire throughout the movie. A great way to reveal information about the plot is through characters who have been at the school for a longer time, and have all had different experiences, this works as puzzle pieces that are layed out to you from the very start of the movie. Very intelligent. And eventually there is the final exposition scene before the finale of the movie, where they reveal what's going on. The way that scene is shot, and the fascination of the reveal is super glueing my eyes on the screen and ears to my speakers. You could look at the scene negatively, but I loved it because they are talking about something very interesting. So, the style, direction and story of this movie is amazing, but I have to mention the music because it is one of my favourite scores in movies, ever. Thank you!
