Man on the Moon Reviews
Milos Forman manages to make an entertaining biopic of the bizarrely popular and divisive Andy Kaufman, someone who was endlessly indulged and feted even when the evidence suggested he needed psychological intervention. Jim Carrey is perfect casting, and is ably supported by Danny DeVito as his deluded agent. Many scenes are exact reconstructions peopled by the original contributors, and the whole thing is fascinating.
I waited a long time to watch this movie. It’s hard to say who was more brilliant. Kaufman or Carrey. Will watch it again soon.
Fine as a standalone piece. I suppose Kaufman fans will have more to enjoy, but for the average viewer it will run middle of the road. An interesting view into a very interesting character.
One of jim carreys best "serious" acting roles, he did a good job he just doesn't sound or look like Andy Kaufman which took me out of it a bit. Everything else was very well written and performed.
underrated movie, made me cry and laugh
A fascinating biographical film about the eccentric comedian Andy Kaufman, brought to life with an exceptional performance by Jim Carrey. The movie captures Kaufman’s unpredictable genius and his penchant for blurring the lines between comedy and reality. Carrey’s commitment to embodying Kaufman is transformative, though it sometimes overshadows the story’s emotional depth. The film skillfully portrays Kaufman’s career, controversies, and personal struggles, but its nonlinear narrative may alienate those unfamiliar with his work. A poignant exploration of fame and individuality, its is both inspiring and bittersweet.
One of the best biopics and one of the best performances of real-life people in film ever! This is the greatness of Jim Carrey...
Hilarious film, largely due to it being a best of compilation of Andy Kaufman's career. I loved Man on the Moon. There isn't much special about the filmmaking, with the exception being how the audience can never tell whether Andy is lying or telling the truth. It's largely driven by Jim Carrey's amazing performance as Kaufman.
Great movie. Jim Carrey IS Andy Kaufman. Carrey was usually a doofus before this movie, but once I got involved with this story, I was hooked. Will see it again.
Jim Carrey was perhaps the safest choice to play one of the most hated-loved comedians in history. The film itself is not entirely even but it has its good moments.
Any actual fan of Andy couldn't like how Jim played him. It was a bad performance. Not to say Jim isn't a genius but this was not a good match.
Only heard about Andy Kaufmann as an actor in Taxi in the late 70's. Had little idea about the rest of his utterly bizarre life. Jim Carey was obviously a fan and threw his heart and soul into the role. As a film, it's probably nothing special in the bio-pic genre. But because the character was just so interesting, found it very watchable. Kaufmann is probably chuckling up there at the various attempts to prove his death was faked. Also I never knew the REM song was a tribute to Kaufmann. Every day you learn something new. "Now, Andy, did you hear about this one? Tell me, are you locked in the punch? Hey, Andy, are you goofing on Elvis? Hey, baby Are we losing touch?"
Carrey was good, but who Andy Kaufman really was, is not explained in the movie. Maybe Kaufman was always acting. Why? Did he have his own personality? His life ended tragically, but are we forced to accept people as they are? Was there a time when Kaufman was just himself? I am glad Carrey made a tribute movie to Andy.
This is a prestige picture about the famous eccentric comedian/performance artist Andy Kaufman. Kaufman's odd philosophy of entertainment at first seemed like it wouldn't quite mesh in a feature film but it eventually blossomed and started to make sense and become entertaining. There's a lot of great acting and directing in this movie, which is a loving tribute to a comic legend.
LOL, the funniest 01 hour: and 58 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Featuring the worst comedian in the world: Andy Kaufman (played funny by James Carrey)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also starring Danny DeVito, Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, David Letterman, Caroline Rhea, and Lorne Michaels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Christopher Lloyd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really great and underappreciated. This is one of Jim Carrey's best performances. It's odd, sad at times, and not really a comedy. It's just the retelling of a gifted artist's life in a very well made film. I believe this was unpopular because most audiences went in expecting either a comedy or another "The Truman Show" and this is somewhere in the middle but a lot more zany. 86100 B
LOL, the funniest 01 hour: and 58 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jim carrey tried to capture how to do Andy kaufman's comedy , the key word is "tried". The comedy never does Kaufman's comedy that well, the movie has cliches thrown in, and there are massive historical insurances (Which could be the point, but that's not what it's either trying to do or feels like its trying to do).
Great movie perfect for Andy Kaufman. Throughout the film you could barely tell that it's Jim Carey. It's like watching Andy Kaufman all over again.
The best movie title sequence ever made!
