Oof... What a waste of time. I do not recommend it
I feel this was well done. Surprised it didn’t get better reviews. Tackled a difficult subject with honesty - and I learned something along the way. Sandra Bullock is quite a good actress and the supporting cast good as well. Would have liked more development of her relationship with her sister
Thoughtful, heartfelt and funny in moments. Good flick.
Where zombies???????
I thought that this was a good film. Especially concerning alcoholism and drug addiction. This takes place in a rehab center, and gives you an idea of how hard it can be. It is worth seeing.
I adore this film. The preformances are fantastic. The subject matter is serious. There is light in the darkness.
Although many may state that this movie is quite bland and long in its message; it is. However the intentions of this movie about mental health are made CLEAR and do create meaning to many. If you are an audience member who sees movies through a different light, a light that is more perspective and in depth towards the intentions of the screenwriters, then this is the movie for you. This movie creates emotions about mental health that are very profound and can be misinterpreted by many audiences, but with the right people, you can really be touched... I'd definitely watch this movie if I was feeling down, as Bullock puts off an amazing portrayal of this character!
I did not fully explore the reality of getting sober but it gave a broader idea into different additction and that the choice is in your hands.
I enjoy this movie. The secondary characters really steal the show. The Bullock-Virgo coupling just didn't feel right. Her older sister was one of the strongest and had real character. Unfortunately she doesn't get painted in that manner, which is not fair at all.
Great movie! Loved the message and the songs. It was funny.
The reviews here are unfair. This movie does a great job about making a movie that tackles hard issues like addiction, self harming, mental health and family issues, with jokes to make you laugh while it's also serious when it needs to. Of course it won't be a super perfect portrait of rehab, that would be torture, it's a version of it you can watch without wanting to end everything. It's a pretty good 22 years old movie.
I really like this movie. It definitely keeps you engaged and shows some realness as far as what it's like to be an addict and to be consumed by your addiction. It also has some very funny moments and characters. As well as a couple of touching, emotional, scenes. It has a talented cast of characters who all do a great job. However, if I had one complaint, it's that they gloss over the horrors of withdrawal. While Gwen, Sandra Bullock's character in the movie, is shown experiencing some physical discomfort, in reality it wouldn't have only been for one or two days and she wouldn't have been going around talking to people, or functioning at any level for that matter, in the meantime. I understand for the movies sake and the story, they couldn't have her lying on the floor throwing up on herself and convulsing non-stop for that long of a time. It just would have seemed more accurate and real had they alluded to her going through detox before she got there. As it is, it really downplays what withdrawal from drug s and/or alcohol is really like and how long it lasts and that it's the extreme fear of that withdrawal that keeps so many people in the throes of their addiction. If it had been accurate, she wouldn't have been allowed to go to the the rehab facility until she went through withdrawal at a medical facility, but it is what it is and I still enjoyed the movie and would recommend to others.
For people who give this movie a low rating!! It is a great movie in which I have seen and experienced rehab first hand with my mother!! People who don't know what rehab is like or experience a loved one first hand go through it should not say that this movie is not realistic and that rehab isn't like this!.. you have no idea until you see it either for yourself or see it first hand with a loved one!!
sad, funny, and decent acting. Not a feel good movie but a decent movie with a realistic premise.
I for one appreciated the light tone while tackling such a difficult subject.
bad! i usually love Sandra Bullock.
