America: The Motion Picture Reviews
Oh my gods.. what did I just watch -_- Two words: absolutely horrific
Very stupid film I can't deny it was slightly enjoyable at times but mostly unfunny and stupidly silly. but overall couldn't recommend it with how many great films exist. netflix really fumbled this one.
Tongue and cheek, spoofy comedy is really easy to get wrong and, unfortunately, that happens here. I did enjoy the final battle scene a bit but overall most of the jokes fell flat and it just didn't make me laugh, which means it failed me as a comedy.
Scarily more accurate than most of our history text books. Certainly in spirit if not entirely in fact...
This movie is packed with background gags, jokes and references and all around extremely layered. The movie is an absolute blast from start to finish. If you're a fan of the Lonely Island, Archer and Futurama you cannot miss this one.
This is just a really bad and unfunny movie on Netflix
The movie is incredibly stupid, but aware of how stupid it is. Good movie to throw on in the background while doing something else.
Dumb comedy is one thing... But this wasn't a dumb satire of comedy, it was just dumb. Good chances at jokes were used but we're wasted on this medium. It was almost watchable but while I'm not expecting anything close to historical due to the satire the satire/comedy wasn't enough to push past some of the outstandingly dumb things they had historical figures do.
Proudly ahistorical and outlandishly over the top while being decidedly unfunny. It's almost impressive how many scenes in a row completely miss their mark. The longer it goes on the more difficult it is to decide who this was even made for; an exciting roster of voice actors without anything worth reading.
Dużo inside joke'ów dla amerykanów, które można łatwo przeoczyć, sprośny humor, głupia fabuła, karykaturalne postacie oraz nawet ładny styl graficzny. Nic specjalnego
This is the most patriotic movie since Team America World Police. Not sure why it has a low score, maybe because the reviewers giving it a shit review is part of the fun police. Rewatching it a year later is still funny the first time watching it. But, the most patriotic thing about this movie? It was released on the 4th of July. Now that screams America.
As a history professor at a local community college here in the great state of Texas, I show this film as part of a cultural awareness unit. As I possess a PH&D in English with a minor in welding, I understand what constitutes value in learning for my young and impressionable student's minds. Is the content 100% accurate? Honestly, we may never know as these events took place thousands of years ago, but I do know that we won that war and now can write history as we wish. And this is the history I choose to teach and I'm tenured.
America: The Motion Picture has fluid animation, some funny moments and a gloriously insane climax but the obnoxious characters (Jason Mantzoukas is just a reskin of his Big Mouth character), cringy humour that's mostly reliant on how much we can say the f-word and "white people are assholes who ruin everything" and feeling like a glorified Robot Chicken sketch make "what if frat boys made a movie about the American Revolution?" one of the weaker animated offerings Netflix has released in recent years. Really makes you question just how heavily involved Phil Lord and Chris Miller were when they were only two producers credited out of eleven(!)
Although this movie totally gets history wrong, and is very offensive towards the British, I still found this hilarious to watch. Yes, I'm ashamed of myself :( You really need to have a light heart to watch this movie. It was a parody of our modern culture as well as of historical events and people. I suggest you don't go the IMDB page first, just watch the movie and see if you can guess who the voices are; it's a lot more fun guessing who they are. Oh, the SOUND SCORE was excellent, by anyone's standards, so FU __|__ (the finger) to people that didn't like this movie! This movie deserves WAY more than 35% on RT :(
Raunchy patriotic and packed full of references I feel one needs to be a student of history or politics to truly enjoy this film and the humor within it Whether it's the consession stand at the theatre called John Wilkes booth Or the bar called Vietnam that nobody wants to go into 😂 Or even the political lines spoken by the British such as "tread on them" This films humor is aimed directly at the mistakes or unfortunate events of America's past and for history buffs like myself that's quite amusing
Funny in its bending, twisting, piss-taking, and blatant inventing of history, as well as playing brilliantly with associated stereotypes of all character groups. It's easy-watching. Can imagine this being a great stoner movie
A wildly satrical historial romp jabbing at all the big scabs of U.S. history. Entertaining enough.
Just not very good. Uses swears, sex, racism and violence in the place of jokes. Alright action, but they decided to make blood cover half of the screen in all the action scenes. All the "characters" (with heavy quotes) are their catchphrases disguised as a person. For example we have, "Lets kill anyone who doesn't look like us", "Science", and "I'm black". Those three sentences are pretty much all that those three characters ever say or talk about. It's only worth is as wank off material for 6th graders who don't know what porn is.
This was a ridiculous rollercoaster ride and I have no idea why I got in it, but for some reason I could not get off of it until the end. I have no idea who the target audience would be, historically it is utter mess, and entertainment wise uhhh well there is satire there.... Maybe the whole appeal of this was the absurdity of it all? So if you decided to watch this, just embrace it and go along for this crazy ride, if nothing else, just to see what else they might throw in there and to how it all ends. And, what's with the Russian anthem at the closing credits, was this just another joke that went over my head?
Who was this made for??? It is hard to imagine anyone who would enjoy this... uh... "motion picture". I guess the people who participated in its creation enjoyed getting a paycheck, but I do not think even they would like what they created.
