Amsterdam Reviews
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I've been waiting for a descent murder mystery since Knives Out and the movie satisfied my hunger.
Great movie, Christian Bale was great!
Despite some good acting, the script wandered vaguely and you are left to try to piece together snippets that make no other sense and wonder why it is not over yet. Waste of talent and viewer time.
Cameos can't save this one. Story too drawn out.
I'm very sorry this movie hasn't done well at the box office, because it's excellent. Yes, it uses the well-worn trope of "protagonist(s) are accused of crime they did not commit, and must find a way to clear their names". But it proceeds in a rapid, original and quirky way. Perhaps the humor is too subtle for American audiences, but I found it both cerebral and hilarious. Christian Bale really channels his Peter Falk. The characters all played their parts well. One glaring omission so far of all the reviews I have read is the currently political timeliness embedded in a movie set in 1933. MAGA Repugnicans should take note this movie takes aim at them.
Longer than it needed to be
An oddball telling of a forgotten moment in US history!
Great cast, great action, great gags, compelling story.
Loved it! Slow at times, but a great intricate story with good acting and big name actors. Laughed out loud many times, very enjoyable with a good message on life.
The plot was boring at times, and I never developed much interest in the characters.
For such a great cast, the movie was very choppy and messy. You could have told the story in half the time.
I enjoyed the costuming and era representation. I thought Margot Robbie was amazing as was John David Washington. Christian Bales performance was erratic but good. There seemed to be some technical issues at our theater, which may not have been from the film, irregular skin color and some light blinking, that was bothersome. The script writing and story line where awful. Too wordy and pretentious. I wish I had had more information about the story line. None the less, it was reasonably enjoyable.
Strangely good is what comes to mind. Would have been good to know ahead of time that this was a historical fiction and that some of the facts were true. That was good to finally know at the end of the movie.
Kept my interest all the way through. Made me think.
What a hot mess of a movie - worst I've seen in my entire life. We'll never get those 2 hours back
Left in the middle of the movie. Literally the most boring movie ever. The acting was horrendous, did these great actors all forget how to act for just this one movie???? I would LOVE my money back.
The worst movie of the year.
An intelligent and oddball humorous movie. I absolutely loved it.
I figured with a great cast it had it would be good. Saldy not the case. I felt confused watching it and left confused afterwards.
Such a pleasant movie to watch.
