Awake Reviews

Mar 25, 2025

Awake felt a little confusing in the beginning- I didn't exactly know what was going on, yet, I guess neither did those in the movie. However, after what seems like obvious cuts, and obvious plotlines that were removed, I was left out of the loop. Halfway through, I stopped trying to connect the dots, and just allowed myself to watch. I'd say right then, it got interesting. 24+ hours of no sleep is INTENSE. I don't think people understand that. So, the scenes that unfolded honestly make sense. I started to like how absolutely insane everything was- and how quick drawn the actions of people were. By the end, I was in it, and loving every second of it. The ending was crazy- even though the last second was very cliche.

(ENGLISH) A good idea doesn’t always translate into a good movie, and Awake is a clear example of that. The premise of a world where no one can sleep and chaos takes over had a lot of potential. What could have been a paranoid and distressing thriller ends up being an occasionally entertaining story, but too flat to truly take advantage of its premise. The biggest problem is that it never manages to convey the level of desperation it should. The sense of danger is inconsistent, and although there are a few well-executed action scenes, the suspense never fully takes off. The movie lacks tension, and there are too many scenes that don’t add much, making the story progress without the strength it needs to fully engage. The characters don’t help much either. The cast does what it can, but the script doesn’t give them enough depth. There’s a lack of development, a lack of conflict. It’s hard to connect with them or genuinely care about what happens to them, which takes away impact from the story and makes everything feel colder than it should. Visually, the movie delivers without standing out. At times, the camera effectively portrays the characters’ disorientation, but overall, the staging is overly conventional. The soundtrack doesn’t add much either; instead of enhancing the tension and chaos that the story demands, it fades into the background and fails to create the necessary impact. Ultimately, Awake is a survival thriller that entertains just enough but leaves the feeling that it could have been much more. With a more polished development and a bolder commitment to the tension and chaos its premise suggests, it could have resulted in a far more immersive experience.

Really bad plot, not a great ending, the story line was hard to follow and didn’t really make sense. I would not watch this movie again and definitely would not recommend it.

It makes no sense. People start freaking out about their sleep before they even get to the 24-hour mark. Silly, and I can't lie, I did not make it anywhere close to the end. Just couldn't stomach it.

Really not good....at all.

I highly recommend you watch this movie if you need to go to sleep What an amazing job of making one of the worst movies ever made

Good movie which not great still deserves a higher rating than what it has.

Just misses becoming a recommendable sci-fi flick.

Awake is a total snooze fest! Underdeveloped characters and useless side stories. The incohesive plot will have you saying, “huh?” throughout the entire painfully slow film just to be kicked in the head by its thwarted ending. Matilda’s character growth is the only reason this movie deserves one little star.

Good concept…slow. Tried not to forwarding but had to. Frustrating ending.

Horrible. This is a low budget makes no sense film that goes nowhere directed by someone who shouldn’t be in the film business. Oh and why would Jennifer Jason Leigh do this film its beyond beneath her!!

One of the most stressful cinematic experiences.

The one interesting premise this movie brings, and yet it couldn't deliver on that. What this movie lacks in character development, acting and story. It provides some interesting shots where it's clear the one in control of cinematography, wants to let the spectacul tell the story. That doesn't change how shallow this movie comes across, feeling more like an interesting short film idea than the waste this movie turns out being.

It was OK....but it had the typical stupid stuff in every movie seems to do and viewers are tired of seeing it. For example, it wasn't clear what the cause of the world wide malfunction was. The little girl is the most important person in the world after the event, we don't know how long the after affects of the event had been going on ....it seems like for just one day. But it had to have been much longer since they were looking for a cure. The little girl potentially holds the cure...but during a scene she gets upset and runs off and mom just lets her go. Actually mom didn't even notice. She doesn't run after her or even go looking for her. She just leaves her unattended for a long period of time. The girl with the cure is just allowed to run off and stay gone. For some ridiculous reason, the little girl goes back to the car and falls asleep in it...and it is then stolen. OF COURSE. But they were in a huge library...a library that you know has a couple couches somewhere. What upset her was for some reason mom tried to teach her daughter how to shoot a gun in the library...a gun the little girl could barely hold up it's so heavy for her. Mom thinks she will learn to be a dead shot in a matter of seconds??? Frustrated that her daughter won't shoot it, mom then takes it from her and fires off a round IN the library...could there be someone on the other side of the books she shot at from 20 feet away? It was a mish mash of scenes that were poorly stitched together. Moms acting was overdone, the son was annoying... the little girl was actually pretty good. And there's no way the red headed grandmother was related to any of them.

The last half hour is just horrendous. How does this even get made,

Not your typical Armageddon movie and that's awesome. The action starts quick but you have to wait for answers. If you didn't understand this movie or it's end then you don't have patience and shouldn't criticize.

i think it was really intense and emotional . brilliant writing and amazing camera shots jill is a great mum and really gritty at the same time i constantly felt for Matilda and Noah and Jill. a nightmare filled reality from something so simple and ingrained but so complex. sleep or lack of it i thought it would be bit longer as the build up was a bit abrupt. i wanted more of a confrontation kinda thing it still worked it was really painful what they had do to jill but the reluctance and the acting really sold it, gotta make tough choices in a tough world i think the characters acted great!

Interesting idea no execution.

Bad plot. Bad acting. Bad lines. It could've been really good but it was just…bad.

Perhaps ironic that a movie called "awake" is so boring it cures insomnia.
