Babylon Reviews
It was VERY long but I loved the passion behind it. I just wish more people gave it a chance.
I counted five people walking out; my patience was abused by this one.
This movie held my attention the whole entire time. I did not look at my phone once nor leave for a bathroom break. The movie was just too good
Inside Babylon exists a wonderful and illuminating story about the dawn of modern filmmaking and its transition from talkies. Unfortunately, the writer and director (Damien Sayre Chazelle) never got or heeded the memo about killing darlings through bold editing. His insistence on adding gratuitous scenes that stray from the central theme, trying to out-Tarantino Tarantino with distractions about the depraved underbelly of the times, taints what otherwise could have been a pretty damn good film. The storyline deserved better (and less than three hours and nine minutes on the screen).
Great performances, Especially Margot Robbie, Diego Calva, and Brad Pitt. Good story, a bit tragic. Cinematography is amazing.
Terrible. There was no story and its three and a half hours long.
I loved it. Robbie was perfect, Pitt is always 100% right for his part. I loved 20’s Hollywood. Well made. I hate DC and Marvel, finally something for the adults at the movies…
I loved this movie so much. Saw it a couple days ago. I can’t stop thinking about it. Absolutely captivating and gripping performances by the entire cast! Incredible sequences. Humor and heart. Justin’s score is insane. Damien is in the POCKET here. I think it’ll be fondly looked back on one day. I really don’t get the hate for this movie. One of the best movies about movie making I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait to own it.
Babylon was a HUGE disappointment and even made me angry. Angry because it had the potential to be a really great movie. The acting was superb, especially Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie with Jean Smart stealing every scene she was in. The camera work was magnificent and we loved the music. The plot was top notch and the dialogue was good. So what was wrong. Sadly, just about everything els! A running time of over THREE hours was just ludicrous. It was very easy to see where at the very least one hour could have been shaved off and even another thirty minutes if one went to nick picking. What ever did the Director think he was doing leaving all the sickening scenes of vomiting over people, an elephant relieving himself of poop, with a close-up of it exiting his ass, and landing in huge torrents over people's faces, disgusting sexual acts leaving nothing to the imagination and even a huge ugly guy eating live rats. The director loved this act so much we even had a close up of his mouth and teeth munching on it as it was a bloody, juicy steak. Then we had all the drug taking, cocaine snorting, injections, often played to music. And I have to say, the music was excellent. There was a scene where the lead lady who was mostly drunk, high on drugs, foul mouthed, or all three at the same time, try to get her father to fight a rattle snake and when he chickened out, she decided to do it and got bitten almost to death. This whole scene occupied almost thirty minutes of screen time. Why? Less is more and the director should have known this. So, I won't labour on with my own review, Jo is ordering me to stop. It is just that there was so much material to have made an award winning movie that was almost lost in the inclusion of so much filth. We go to the movies to be entertained not feeling we want to throw up. There was only ten patrons in the auditorium I was in and five of those walked out long before it had finished. Shame on you Damien Chazelle who is both writer and director. You should be locked up for taking a master-piece and throwing pure filth all over it so it ends up int the garbage bin. No, sorry, you would have wiped your ass with it and in front of all of us. So sad.
Little more of a Greek tragedy than I was looking for.
Fire, care about the cinema type movie, quality though.
Too long and slow after the first hour.
I Liked a lot of ur but over blown too much
Creative, interesting, touching and quite a lot of gore.
I liked the overall story, the point the movie was trying to make... it was very funny at times and some scenes i thought didn't need to be there.. it had a longer ending than needed in my opinion.
I enjoyed the special effects of the history of the industry. Also the story line was quite intense.
I understood the premise of the movie, but it was just bad, bad, bad. The best part was the ending.
This is a fantastic love story to cinema. It grabs you from the start of its 30 minute introduction and doesn’t let go until the very last scene.
Really enjoyed it. Was going in with low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. A great sweeping epic looking at the highs and lows of the film industry and the beginnings of Hollywood.
Bizarre story line that kept me in it for the whole 3 hours. Margo Robbie's acting was fabulous! She was worth the cost of the ticket. Not for those with a weak stomach.
