Bird Box Barcelona Reviews
This is even more drab than the first instalment of the Netflix horror-thriller.

Whilst parts were predictable there's still enjoyment in the suspense. Bird Box Barcelona holds extremely well as a drama-horror film and is worth investing your time in.

The film has moments of pure and hard terror that should appease those who love the genre. [Full review in Spanish]

It’s certainly no clone of its 2018 predecessor. The Pastors do a good job of giving their film its own identity, taking the same concept and building on it in a number of interesting ways.

The movie could have spent time observing the themes around grief and what it does to someone but, instead, focuses on the faux-religious angle that takes away the emotional moments to reach its full potential.

Having laid the groundwork for its terror in the lackluster first film, this one raises an interesting idea and then never fleshes it out beyond an antagonist's secret as it is more interested in its suicidal payoffs then truly upping the stakes.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Aug 3, 2023
Ultimately, the film fails to break new ground, resulting in a somewhat underwhelming experience.

While it has glaring faults Bird Box: Barcelona still has enough dramatic elements to keep you intrigued until it leans too heavy into the worst tropes of movies like Book of Eli.

Competently acted with a fair bit of tension and character development, this offering by Álex and David Pastor is a fun addition to the Bird Box universe.

You don't have to have watched Sandra Bullock-led Bird Box to be interested in this intense spin-off; coming in new might actually heighten the suspense.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 27, 2023
Overall, fans of the original Bird Box will likely enjoy this expansion of the mythology behind the alien invaders. At the same time, everyone else will probably be content to wait to see what comes next.

It just feels like they took a story that was not good to begin with and, because it was successful, made a version in Spanish.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jul 25, 2023
Bird Box Barcelona is a tough and bleak movie, but it offers spectacle and action for those looking for pure entertainment and something a little more thought-provoking and challenging for an audience that likes its genre fare more multi-layered.

Mostly disappoints.

Treading familiar ground... I was most interested in the Catholic undertones that I wish had been a little more developed.

[There's] a new element, which I think is very bright of the film... They pull this thing off again.

Bird Box Barcelona is an interesting concept, as we get to see how others around the world are affected by the phenomenon, but the execution isn’t the best.

Bird Box Barcelona is disappointing. [Full review in Spanish]

While it falls back on many of the same narrative tropes from the first film, the change in locale and the exploration of the Seer mythology does enough to justify this new film's existence.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 19, 2023
After an excellent switchback in the first few minutes, Bird Box Barcelona settles into a kind of The Road- meets-28 Weeks Later rhythm which is probably as much as you could hope for.
