Dec 12, 2024

The most disgusting and gross movie I have ever seen.

A boring and disjointed film.

this film is, at best, homophobic and at worst an amazing waste of money.Incredible someone funded this trash.

I gave this movie 2 stars kinda didn't want to though, this movie kinda reminded me of the movie Kids, but a adult version. Brooke Shields with cornrows, braids that was interesting and the parts with Mike Tyson and Rob. Downy Jr. was all off the cuff so it was kinda funny to find that out and watch that part. Gritty on the street type movie about different people and the way they live Brooke Shields plays a woman filming different people, small talk kinda slow would I would probably not watch this one again.

Black and White doesn’t even hold together as a proper movie. It is like a series of vignettes that happen to features some of the same characters along the way. There is an attempt at a few little storylines, but most of it is scattered, and doesn’t have any flow at all. I despise that lack of focus and purpose, even in well-crafted movies, and this is far from well-crafted. It doesn’t properly take a stand on anything, and might be downright destructive in the way it presents its views. The theme is focused on the differences between white culture and black culture, and it includes a handful of white people who desire to cross the dividing line and either observe or be integrated into the black culture. The problem is that this movie seems to think that every stereotype about black men is accurate. All the black men are destructive, unfaithful, corrupting people who indulge in every vice and try to take down the poor misguided white people with them. It is so shocking that Black & White takes such a bold stand against an entire race, this movie kind of made my skin crawl. It approached some similar things with homosexuality, but it didn’t give the gay character enough screen-time to fully exploit him. I think it’s safe to say that I don’t think anyone should ever sit through Black & White, and those who made it should probably be a little ashamed.

James Toback directs an extremely underrated film that plays out like a slick, urban version of a Robert Altman piece. Things unfold like a sledgehammer towards the end (I like how a rap music video carries the closing credits into a sort of weird epiphany). The performances are solid and the plot lines intertwine with a feverish tone. Black and White got an extremely unfair ribbing from critics. I think it's powerful stuff. In terms of the acting, Ben Stiller as the unacquainted lead, anchors things and he deviates from his comedic persona to give a unhinge performance. Also, look for a scene where co-stars Mike Tyson and Brooke Shields share a weird and poignant moment. All in all, Black and White gets my full recommendation. See it again (or for the first time) and give it its rightful due.

interesting study...

Pathetic attempt to be hip. This movie looks and sounds like a high school "film" assignment.

This is the first Toback movies i've seen and in just the first 5 minutes it's clear to see the love and hate for his movies. While i understand the hate, i don't side with it all. There is no polish to Black and White, it's rough around the edges. But it's alive like few movies are and it's something to cherish. The casting is outstanding. There is an authentic look and feel to each character and storyline. Having Allan Houston and Mike Tyson in the movie doesn't feel like a gimmick. Toback isn't asking them to do Hamlet, just be themselves and it works. You'll either love or hate Black and White.

While not entirely successful this is still a compelling watch. The Mbest moment is Robert Downey Jr.'s exchange with Mike Tyson. Most of the film is improvised and it shows in a lot of places. Power is not a very good actor nor is Claudia Schiffer.

The film examines race relations in Manhattan with an all-star cast. I first saw this at TIFF over 10 years ago and wanted to see it again because of Robert Downey Jr. As a film , it has nothing new or interesting to say, but it is worth watching for Downey. The scene where he hits on Mike Tyson who tells him to stay away as he's on parole is classic! Worth seeing for Downey.

i hate the white girl with the short blonde hair in this with a passion, film ok tho

Despite the fact that the story goes in different directions and never really conclude, there is still some nice piece of gem to watch: like Mike Tyson playing himself, Claudia Schiffer being so gorgeous (as usual) and most of all, all the actors who are improvising most of their replies, especially Robert Downey Jr. I was glad to see a video in the background of Zack de la Rocha, it's just a fan thing.

This movie tries so hard to make a relevant point but is just so contrived. I wanted to turn it off about three times while watching it but figured maybe the ending would have a socially responsible point to make which it did not.

I don't know. It was okay, but also on the obnoxious side.

I don't know if it was trying to say something profound, but if it was then it failed. Not particularly good. Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr made the film just bearable.
