Blazing Saddles Reviews
Gene Wilder is perfect as the alcoholic gunslinger the Waco Kid, and Madeline Kahn steals the show as a Dietrich-like chanteuse.

Most of the gags in Blazing Saddles never were very funny, and probably Brooks knows that and thinks that what's funny about those rotten old jokes is how unfunny they are.

Most of the shorter sequences work nicely. The superb comedienne Madeline Kahn has a role as Lili Von Shtuppe that la a wonderful excuse for her to do a Marlene Dietrich imitation.

Brooks' western is anything but typical. It is a brazen, punch-drunk, free-swinging spoof of every sagebrush saga that ever came down the Hollywood trail.

For the adult and not easily offended audience for whom Brooks had done this mad frontier frolic, Blazing Saddles offers an extraordinary quantity of unrestrained laughter.

It's a crazed grabbag of a movie that does everything to keep us laughing except hit us over the head with a rubber chicken.
| Original Score: 4/4 | Oct 23, 2004
Brooks' wholehearted embracing of rank vulgarity, together with his innovative quickfire sketch structure, titillated crowds more used to sophisticated Hollywood humour.
| Original Score: 5/5 | Jul 7, 2004
A limp, shapeless mess of a film trades in a genuine respect for westerns' tropes for purile vulgarity and joy-buzzer showmanship.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Jun 16, 2004
Blazing Saddles has no dominant personality, and it looks as if it includes every gag thought up in every story conference. Whether good, bad, or mild, nothing was thrown out.

A great cast is eclipsed by the hilarious performances of Harvey Korman and Madeline Kahn, who plays a Marlene Dietrich-like chanteuse.
