Brick Mansions Reviews

The late Paul Walker's given nothing to do in Brick Mansions other than to marvel at David Belle's amazing acrobatics and stare down bad guy RZA. This isn't much of a surprise considering this is a very lazy remake.

| Jan 22, 2022

It won't engage your brain, but is wild enough to keep your eyes glued to the screen.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Feb 1, 2021

Prioritizes the action, clearly unwilling to be bothered with constructing adequate character development or even a brief history on its subjects.

| Original Score: 3/10 | Dec 4, 2020

It's about a cartoonish style of action fueled by fast-paced parkour, of which David Belle is considered one of the founders.

| Original Score: 2.5/4.0 | Sep 4, 2020

"Brick Mansions" isn't a good movie, but it is fun, and that's enough. It's a bad movie that knows precisely what it is and what it needs to deliver in order to be successful, and it does just that.

| Original Score: C | Jul 8, 2020

It's not a soulless remake, but it's definitely a watered down one.

| Feb 7, 2020

The story is laughable, the plot unbelievable, and the characterizations so broad, if they were targets we could shoot, they'd all be dead in the first five minutes.

| Original Score: 1/5 | Jul 31, 2019

The film is characterized by a dull plot, uninspiring acting and thinly-sketched characters.

| Mar 8, 2019

It's at its best a by-the-numbers thriller that represents exactly what Besson's career has become: one senseless, uninspired, unrealistic actioner after another.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 13, 2018

The film has a message at its core but the execution is way too simplistic with the actors acting as if they weren't paid.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 14, 2017

These types of films are going to be less fun without Walker pushing them along.

| Original Score: C+ | Jun 6, 2016

Fit to be condemned.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Apr 9, 2016

"Frankly, there are a lot of actors who have a lot of worse 'last films' on their credits."

| May 9, 2014

Routine all the way, although Belle's moves are thrilling to watch.

| May 9, 2014

Steer well clear.

| May 9, 2014

Favouring vitality over originality, this needless remake of District 13 comes with fleet-footed sequences but plenty of stumbles, and strains far too hard to be 'cool'.

| Original Score: 2/5 | May 5, 2014

It's solidly unsurprising (and often quite boring) generic fare, spiced up with steroidal pectorals and fetishy catfights.

| Original Score: 2/5 | May 4, 2014

Watching Belle perform his gravity-defying leaps and bounds is still exhilarating, but first-time director Camille Delamarre's overuse of slo-mo effects and flashy editing diminishes their impact.

| May 4, 2014

It's so forgettable though that if you do see it you may want to make note of the title so that you don't accidentally rent it when it comes out on DVD.

| Original Score: 2/5 | May 4, 2014

Too much muscle-headed action, too little parkour (Belle is getting on a bit) - this property is condemned.
