Clown Reviews
This movie left me in a whole trance. The special effects as he morphes into the demon, the suspense surrounding his struggle to fight the demon, the dread… this movie is not scared of killing kids and that makes it so much stronger. It really shocks you and isn’t what you expect. Definitely give it a try.
Hard to get past the absurd gag but they tried. It made me ask, "was this screenplay written on a bet?"
Clown (2014) is a film that should serve as a cautionary tale, not for its plot but for how not to make a horror movie. It is a bleak and uninspired exercise in trying too hard to be edgy while delivering neither genuine scares nor compelling storytelling. What could have been an intriguing concept, a cursed clown suit that turns its wearer into a child-eating monster, devolves into a disjointed mess of cheap gore, nonsensical character choices, and an almost comical lack of self-awareness. The protagonist, Kent, is utterly devoid of charisma or likability. His descent into monstrous depravity should evoke terror or at least sympathy, but instead, it inspires apathy. The supporting cast does not fare much better. They exist solely to make questionable decisions that stretch the limits of even a horror fan’s suspension of disbelief. The film also seems to think excessive gore is a substitute for atmosphere or suspense. Instead of building tension or creating a sense of dread, Clown opts for gratuitous violence that feels juvenile and hollow. The scenes meant to shock are telegraphed so far in advance that they lose any potential impact. What is worse is the film’s inconsistent tone. It shifts from moments of dark humor to grotesque body horror without ever finding a balance. The result is a movie that does not know what it wants to be. It is too ridiculous to be genuinely scary and too self-serious to embrace its absurd premise. Even the mythology of the cursed clown suit, a potentially interesting angle, is muddled and underdeveloped. It leaves more questions than answers. By the time the credits roll, it is clear that the filmmakers were just as uninterested in their own lore as the audience becomes by the end. In short, Clown is a tedious and joyless slog through an idea that deserved far better execution. Watching it feels like being trapped at the world’s worst circus. It is uncomfortable, unfunny, and far too long. Skip the ticket.
Effects and storyline are some of the main things leading up to a good horror film, which obviously Jon Watts forgot.
I’d say it keeps your attention & has an interesting demonic clown storyline. Though, it was a bit disturbing towards the end.
Not perfect, but the best clown horror I've seen. Far more interesting than "It." Follows some tried and true horror tropes that fans of the genre will enjoy.
Not as bad as the reviews make it out to be, the clown costume and creature design are very cool and enough to give this movie a watch.
The unique plot and overall lore of the story under horror icon, Eli Roth’s production really stands out as one of the best clown horror movies of all time With that being said a more seasoned Director and a higher budget spent on special effects could have made this movie something very special It’s dark tone and child violence is definitely not for everyone, but behind the uneven pacing, subpar special effects, and spotty acting is a horror gem waiting to be discovered 6.8 out of 10
There’s a lot of stuff that this movie could’ve done but it just... Doesn't? The world just overall feels small, it’s an OK movie just feel like it could’ve been done better it just feels sloppy.
You know....if this movie were a kind of origin story for Pennywise the Dancing Clown...I might care about it a little more. Who knows? Maybe they could claim it as canon.
Clown was pretty good, gory, and very disturbing, but dragged out!!!
A perfect old time horror movie. Original concept and the clown and the murders get worse and worse as the movie progresses. I loved it.
The plot was surprisingly good, however, the effects were awful, and I got really can't be towards the end.
The worst horror movie I've ever watched. Too many unnecessary plot and too much frigid lead to different scene.. If this is horror movie for kids, but too many gore scenes...
While the acting may be subpar and the run time just a hair too long, Clown is an old fashioned horror movie that offers plenty of dark moments and has an unpredictability to it that keeps you on your toes throughout.
This movie is amazing! Simple in premise, paired with good acting and proper ambience, it delivers a bone-chilling story you won't regret watching. Was pleased to see Peter Stormare.
The movie takes the tone very seriously where most killer clowns tries to dark comedy. Clöynes being evil demons is an interesting concept. But there isn't five months in winter. Also, very mild character issues but mostly the pacing. It takes awhile before it gets going. But overall, it's interesting. Sometimes really scary and the odd plot works even with the serious tone.
A good mix of slasher and body horror with solid direction by Jon Watts (Sexy Beast, First Winter) and a very good over the top performance by Peter Stormare (The Million Dollar Hotel, Unknown)
