Crawl Reviews

It’s not as much concerned with being a blockbuster as it is with being an encased survival film. But, much like The Shallows, it takes its genre down all creative possibilities, resulting in a tense, yet nonetheless fun disaster flick.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 14, 2024

With compelling leads and a simple concept, Alexandre Aja delivers an entertaining, suspenseful, claustrophobic, technically creative movie. Finally, someone who knows how to handle a camera, and provide genuinely scary jumpscare sequences!

| Original Score: B+ | Jul 24, 2023

Crawl is the summer movie I really needed.

| Original Score: B+ | Mar 8, 2023

Crawl is a wonderful popcorn movie that gave me three dimensional characters to cheer for as they struggled to survive.

| Original Score: 8/10 | Jan 17, 2023

Crawl delivers the scary thrills and chills to cool off this summer.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Aug 20, 2022

“Crawl” works well because it embraces its simplicity and sticks to its premise. There’s no needless filler or pointless melodrama. Instead we get exciting thrills, economic storytelling, and just enough character development to make us care.

...lends credence to the claim that you should never give up on a director.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Mar 5, 2022

See it on a sleepy afternoon. Or after midnight.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Feb 26, 2022

For a couple of hours on the couch that you won't ever have to think about too hard, Crawl is pretty much perfect.

Episode 42: Crawl / The Last Black Man in San Francisco / Chernobyl / Midsommar

| Original Score: 38/100 | Oct 4, 2021

Director Alexandre Aja scores his points working the dread factor of whether or not the creatures will hit their mark.

| Jul 23, 2021

A near perfect blend, never forgetting that what the audience really came for is to see some people get chomped on.

| Original Score: 3.5 / 5 | Jun 25, 2021

In Crawl, the threats, tension and WTF moments came equally from storm and sharp, pointy teeth alike.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Feb 4, 2021

A lean, mean, biting machine delivered by the more than capable hands of Alexandre Aja, who is no stranger to the aquatic horror sub-genre.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 30, 2020

The computer-animated alligators are mostly convincing, and the graphic attacks are thoroughly engaging.

| Original Score: 6/10 | Dec 7, 2020

It's just tension the whole time and... there's a lot going on in this film which I love.

| Original Score: 6/10 | Oct 27, 2020

It's a raucous onslaught of gator-based chaos that, much like its central predator, sinks its teeth into everything that moves.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 16, 2020

Alexandre Aja builds ferocious tension, and everything looks very dirty and visceral. But the relationship between dad and daughter really sells the film.

| Aug 14, 2020

A hopelessly conventional horror B-movie built on hurricanes, cardboard characters, and computer-generated alligators. [Full review in Spanish]

| Original Score: 3/10 | Aug 1, 2020

It never adds up to a great movie or even a movie that's as nutty as it could have been, but at no time did I doubt the modesty on display here. Crawl wants people to have fun.
