The ending is not one of those clever ones that tickle the applause. It is the unpredictable ending, but more intimate, more true, more poetic. That makes you think. It also makes you think, in which massified, virtual and solitary society we live and how the film is an effective counterpoint. The two protagonists are very good. Sean energetic, confident, bold, but with a latent pain inside, while Dakota, who represents a more composite character, stages a face full of psychological nuances with naturalness.

This is one of my favorite films ever, and certainly one of the best I have seen in years! The performances of Sean Penn and Dakota Johnson are astoundingly good. The story is profound as well (the script is amazing), and the cinematography is brilliantly done. This movie is thought-provoking in so many ways. A must watch for sure!!

I thought this was a comedy because the idea that Dakota Johnson could carry a film like this is hilarious. What was casting thinking? She has the acting range and abilities of a fly, it's so embarrassing.

I thought it was silly, and also a ripoff of taxicab confessions. The real surprise here is that it took about 90 minutes to get from JFK to her midtown apt.

It is well-acted and shows an honest dialogue amongst strangers. If its a rainy day, its a good find.

Simplistic complexity that provokes honesty bridges genuine connections, thus prompting the efficient cast to perform at their natural charisma, blossoming heartfelt humanity in the exceptional chemistry as both Penn and Johnson peak their respectful calibers. (A-)

I thought this might lag and lose my interest. Very pleasantly surprised. It kept me engaged and was quite endearing. I loathed and loved Sean Penn’s Character and found Dakota Johnson to be strong and fragile at the same time. Good script for the right actors. Which they are.

2023's 'Daddio' is one of the best films I've seen this year. It's simple but stunning. SYNOPSIS: 'A woman taking a cab ride from JFK engages in a conversation with the taxi driver about the important relationships in their lives.' This kind of two character drama can sometimes feel overwritten and too staged, but the quality and flow of the screenplay here and the stars' clever, quiet performances make it work beautifully. Penn is incredible yet understated, whilst Johnson puts in a career best performance. She could have an incredible career if she can avoid some of the drivel she's found herself involved in. 'Daddio' is a touching, well paced drama that isn’t quite as flawless as it could be, but at its conclusion it did bring tears to my eyes. Genuine human connection is rare, and you have to work for it, but this film shows it's more than worth the effort. A gorgeous and emotionally impactful movie. 9/10

I was really liked this movie. It was amazing that their most sensitive and honest thoughts seemed to be so real and both actors Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn just seemed to dissolve into their characters. Bravo!

Writer-director Christy Hall's debut, Daddio is an intimate and tiny indie which takes place entirely during one cab ride from JFK airport to the city in which Dakota Johnson, the passenger, engages in a cab confession/therapy session with Sean Penn, the cab driver, which allows the characters to talk about their messy upbringings and their messier relationships in their lives. Played out almost in real time, this two-hander is shot entirely inside the cab with a lot of close-ups that will put off anyone who doesn't like having someone chew gum in their faces. The only reason why this is watchable, or even engaging, is due to the two actors' commitment to their roles. Ultimately this is a very talky but slight film that I'm not surprised I've not heard of until I saw it on the in-flight entertainment menu.

Honest and true. A good watch. It felt like watching a natural and at times uncomfortable conversation which ring true. Acting was A+

I really like these actors, but the dialogue felt as if it was generated by AI, very artificial, cliched, and manipulative. And the interaction between the driver and passenger felt incredibly implausible...once it passed the "creepy" threshold, there's no way in real life that it would have continued as it did.
