Deep Impact Reviews
Unfortunately, most of this film's impact is an asteroid-sized disaster -- sunk deep

The film portrays very well the human element and does something I rather enjoy. It plays on the emotions of the audience and creates sympathy for the characters and makes heroes out of the most unlikely of people.

The what-if-the-world-ends planning is the most interesting part, with impressive special effects but unconvincing emotional reactions from the endangered humans.

It’s a damned good movie that takes you on a gut-wrenching ride.

Deep Impact isn’t great by any means, but it at least doesn’t go out of its way to insult the intelligence like the moronic Armageddon.

The Chapmans are far from alone when it comes to scientists and artists who respect "Deep Impact," although usually praise has been reserved for its scientific merits.
| Original Score: 3.5/4 | May 6, 2023
Deep Impact took a serious subject and made a more serious, dramatic film that was touted by scientists are being more scientifically accurate.

The vision of Morgan Freeman as the next President of the United States is virtually the only worthwhile idea to be found in Deep Impact.

The sober, subdued approach is a welcome alternative to the usual macho gung ho, but unfortunately suspense too is at a minimum.
| Feb 2, 2023
The movie spends so long plodding toward its catastrophic climax that you want to scream "Apocalypse! NOW!"

The one weapon neglected is the usual one in disaster romps -- the script... Dialogue lacks zing. Characters lack substance. Up in the rocket with Duvall, nothing but clichés circulate; down on Earth, vacuity strikes.

It’s a melodrama more than an action thriller. The surprise is that it does melodrama so well.

Even Leder's solid dramatic credentials can't save what is essentially a rotten script.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 29, 2021
Whereas most disaster movies wind a ticking clock and ride the tension of life or death, Leder dares to grapple with fatalism, and study how we react when all of the world's problems can't be solved with a giant bomb.

The final 30 minutes - where all of mankind starts looking for anywhere to duck and cover - is great disaster movie stuff.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Oct 25, 2019
It drags considerably, and mainstream action audiences are likely to find it tedious and undeniably old-fashioned.
| May 8, 2019
Deep Impact has all the makings of a cinematic masterpiece but falls just a tad bit short of joining the all-time classics.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 6, 2018
The filmmakers want us to care about all these people, but we never really get to know them, and there is no sense of impending doom except when Leoni starts chugging martinis.

A generic, paint by the number, disaster flick with so-so special effects at the climatic payoff.
| Original Score: C | Jun 26, 2018
There are some impressive disaster effects in the final hour, and thanks to some clever and knowing twists, Deep Impact keeps you averagely entertained right up until the cataclysmic tidal-wave finale.
