Do Revenge Reviews
Netflix’s Do Revenge is tremendous, despite having some small faults. It takes its place without question as one of the best teen dark comedies in recent memory and could wind up being considered iconic in the years to come

With references to classic teen movies and cameos from VERY familiar faces, Do Revenge is a cleverly crafted and entertaining film that could potentially become for new generations what the films it intends to honor were for past generations.

Do Revenge is a campy, teenage drama. It is wild and chaotic in every way possible

Who better to revamp the teen revenge genre than a cast of actors who have been dominating teen series and young adult movies for the last five years?

Do Revenge is a witty, hilarious black comedy showcasing good performances, gorgeous visuals, too many references to count and, as promised, a whole lot of payback. It's an homage to the click flick genre that fits in tidily amongst the rest.

A Gen Z, John Tucker Must Die take on Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers On a Train, Do Revenge is a candy-coated tale of, well…revenge. It’s a pastel-colored Machavellian story of teenage subterfuge centered on two unlikely friends.

The highs of Do Revenge are very high, and the lows are very low.

Do Revenge reminds us that Latinas can anchor a ridiculous, over-the-top story. We can be anywhere and anyone [embodying] all the contradictory, ugly, and surprising aspects of being the heroine in an American teen movie.

The modern girl’s chick flick in all the right ways.

Despite a messy, convoluted final act, this perfectly cast ode to 90s YA film delivers the candy coloured goods. It's fun, the costumes are iconic and it's appropriately queer and feminist, qualities befitting a contemporary YA film.

It may seem like another adolescent comedy, but there's an important element this film has that others in this genre lack: shining a light on the mental health of the protagonists. [Full review in Spanish]

Do Revenge revels in the fiery heat of teenage girlhood, ultimately delivering an angry, messy and cathartic good time.
| Original Score: 7.9/10 | Oct 5, 2022
...a sluggish and hopelessly dumbed-down endeavor that strikes all the wrong notes right from the get-go...
| Original Score: 1/4 | Oct 5, 2022
There aren't too many redeeming behaviours on display here, from the characters or from the writing. Jumping down from my soap box, I have to say the filmmakers do construct a fun bubble-pop aesthetic...

Our emotions aren't always cotton candy like the film's vivid aesthetics may suggest. In the end, it's that rage and anger that — albeit in a roundabout way — helps them come to their final realizations...

A vicious, razor-sharp teen comedy, 'Do Revenge' is constructed in the vein of 'Heathers,' 'Clueless,' and 'Mean Girls,' but easily able to bitchslap those movies back to where they came from.

[It] wryly explores toxic high school rivalries.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Sep 30, 2022
A largely limp teen comedy drama...Though the cast is attractive and nicely wardrobed in fashions colour-coded to match the set design, the central performances are surprisingly lacklustre, with many scenes feeling like filmed rehearsals.

Do Revenge is a teen movie that isn’t afraid to take some delightful chances. As a genre, teen movies can often be so formulaic and rigid. However, this up-and-coming team comes at this story with not only a look into the future but an eye for the past
| Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 29, 2022
Not only is this a magnificent modern-day update of Patricia Highsmith’s Strangers on a Train, but Do Revenge is also a pitch-perfect melding of late 20th Century cult hits like Heathers, Clueless, Single White Female and Cruel Intentions.
