#Emma #MovieReview: 4.5/10 Pros: Costumes Sound/Score Set design Perfect casting Anya-Taylor Joy as Emma Directing Cons: Didn't laugh once Extremely boring first half Some issues with overacting The plot isn't clear until very late Confusing dialogue/story arcs
Kind of boring but nice costumes and scenery.
I like the cinematography. I like viewing Emma and comparing to the other adaptations. I think that I like Gweneth Paltrow’s version better, but this was a good and delightful one.
I loved the clothes and scenery/set designs. The comic timing was spot on. Beautiful movie, and beautifully made.
Maybe the best version of Emma ever! Loved the English folk music and soundtrack.
Overall, the movie was a disappointment for us both (and she is huge Austen fan, with a real lean to "period pieces" and settings like this). I'm not quite sure why it didn't capture either of us (other than the fact that we both found it boring), but I gave it three stars because the costumes and scenery were fabulous, and deWilde and Bill Nighy were outstanding (Nighy's portrayal of the father - albeit limited - stole all of his scenes, and ironically his character's disinterest - which played so well where called for - mirrored how I felt in general...). At the end of the day, I found myself "forgiving" the movie's shortcomings after-the-fact.
The costumes are gorgeous for men and women and so are the sets
Just loved the movie! The clothing, beautiful colors 0f the fabrics and ribbons.. the landscapes made me think of a Monet painting.
Loved how the period was captured. Beautiful. The plot line was quite weak. Enjoyed it for the pure entertainment aspect and the eye candy of the settings and costumes.
This story was remade as Clueless back in the 90s, and somehow this telling, which retains the time period, setting, and language of the novel, feels more relatable and relevant.
Grt period movie Awesome costume design
It was difficult to hear what the actors were saying. Usually the volume is loud for most movies. It was a little hard to keep up with who was who in the movie. I really enjoyed the scenery in this movie.
The worst Jane Austin movie I have ever seen. It was all I could do to stay awake or not walk out.
Wonderful costumes, plot was s but tedious at times
My granddaughter and I enjoyed the atmosphere so much--reclining seats! The movie was a little slow but had a great ending.
I can't quite put my finger on it, but I didn't like this rendition of a Jane Austen book nearly as well as others. The acting is wonderful, but the movie drags. Way too many closeups of "Emma" and her eyes giving the same look all the time. Rather irritating.
I didn't dislike it. too harsh a word. I wished that for more dialog about their childhood experience together. It was a lovely love movie. Made your heart feel good and the scenes between them were well acted with great chemistry between them. If you have ever been in love, you saw it on the big screen. The father and other actors were wonderful. You gained real insight on what life was in that time period. Cinematography superior, costumes, homes authentic. Bravo
A VERY SLOW MOVIE. THE HUMOR WAS A 6 AT BEST.
(This is my first experience with Jane Austen's Emma.) It was so charming. Well-acted, well-written (screenplay). I really enjoyed it. We were laughing and chuckling throughout the whole movie. ⚠️ It is PG, but there are two butts shown near the beginning. (Why? I have no idea.)
