Event Horizon Reviews

Apr 16, 2025

Grande filme, bem a frente de seu tempo.

A criminally underrated hidden gem of sci-fi horror, Event Horizon delivers a chilling ‘haunted house in space’ experience. Though hindered by a rushed production, it masterfully blends psychological terror with mind-bending sci-fi elements. The cast shines, with standout performances from Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne, adding depth to the film’s eerie atmosphere. A must-watch for fans of the genre.

A surreal odyssey from Hell, awesome horror sci-fi movie and CRIMINALLY underrated. A rescue a ship that’s been to an unknown, evil dimension that basically brought Hell with it AWESOME! Seriously bad ass movie. And honestly, the CHI, effects and sets were all done better than Chris Nolan’s Interstellar, 17 years before in 1997!

A great movie in itself actually dodging the "Alien" concept monopoly and delivers some heavily eerie vibes. A bit like that chilling cold harsh vibe of Alien Prometheus which made it a great sci fi but a bad mythdestroung alien movie. It was a scary thing when it came out back in the 90s.

A waste of pretty sets and talented actors.

Tho flawed and at times logically wobbly, Event Horizon remains one of the smarter, more compelling horror/sci-fi hybrids of the '90s. Anchored by strong performances from Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne, the film explores chilling ideas with bold visual choices and a solid sense of dread. The special effects hold up surprisingly well, and the film’s commitment to its nightmarish tone makes it memorable. That said, it stumbles under the weight of its own mythology - raising metaphysical questions it never answers, and creating powers for its antagonist that don’t hold up to scrutiny. Still, it’s stylish, dark and brimming with disturbing intrigue. A genre gem worth revisiting - if you can stomach it.

The idea behind it was alright but I can't believe this passed for sci-fi back then, especially considering how long Alien came before it.

This movie is one of the best scary drama movies. Sci-Fi gruesome movie. I am a fan of so many of the actors in this movie. It was a no-brainer to watch, and I have watched it multiple times. What worked for this movie was the strong acting and interesting concept of what was the "scary" they were going to encounter. With a cast like this, I had no clue about who was going to die or live. This is something that has been missing in many scare movies in recent times: a full ensemble cast. With each character that had kills, it gave an opportunity to expose the creative aspect of gore, deaths and evil ways. The special effects for the time held up, as did the gore and blood. Even watching it today, I don't find myself thinking "this looks stupid" rather I get sucked into the storyline. The visuals were pretty good, especially some of the gruesome nightmare ones. The movie does not take too long to get going with the gore for impatient watchers. Check this movie out!

Sometimes, as a Trekker and Whovian to the core, a total sci fi nerd, I like a palette refrest. Anderson often so delivers, and Event Horizon sits in my library next to Alien. Every actor in this one gives it their all, nothing is phoned in for a quick £. The script is a clever premise, and Anderson delivers it on screen with panache. Credit also to the set builders. 35% on RT is wrong. Check this diamond of a movie out. Then push the rating where it belongs. This is a proper iconic, cult movie. Be a cult and enjoy it.

One of my favourite horror films of all time. There are few films scarier and, even with age, this film's terror does not reduce. Mix that together with some of the most tactile and believable sci-fi elements of any film and I struggle to see how anyone could not enjoy this true classic. I'm glad to see this film getting the love it deserves in more recent times.

"Event Horizon" is one of those movies that pulls you in with its eerie atmosphere and keeps you hooked with its intriguing premise. It’s a sci-fi horror that isn’t just about space exploration but dives into darker, more psychological territory. The visuals are haunting, the tension builds steadily, and the overall design of the ship itself adds so much to the unsettling vibe. From start to finish, the movie keeps you on edge, and the pacing ensures you’re never bored. What I really appreciate about "Event Horizon" is its ability to blend genres so seamlessly. It’s a sci-fi film at its core, but the horror elements are front and center, creating an experience that feels fresh and unique. The story is easy to follow, which makes the intense moments hit even harder. You’re not trying to untangle a complicated plot; you’re just along for the ride, which makes it even more effective when things start to unravel. While it could have benefited from a bit more character development to really drive that emotional connection, the film still manages to leave a lasting impression. It’s the kind of movie that grows on you the more you think about it. If you’re into suspenseful, atmospheric films that mix horror with sci-fi, "Event Horizon" is definitely worth checking out. It’s dark, it’s intense, and it’s an experience you won’t forget anytime soon.

Scariest movie I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot of horror)

One of my favourite horrors and sci fi films.

One of the best sci-fi horror movies I've ever seen I rewatch it all the time. Can't believe it only has 35% on critic score

I first saw this aged 13 in my parents basement with the lights off. Hairs up on the back of my neck the whole time. Pure Lovecraft vibes. That spinning warp drive is scarier than any clawed monster.

Slow and uneven pacing. But still worth a watch.

Astounding visuals and real terror [and lots and lots of gore, too!] make this cult classic a triumph for horror fans. Very satisfying for the non-squeamish.

Great sci-fi horror prob the best one

"Even Horizon" starts out interestingly enough, but I feel it falls apart the more it moves along. I felt the movie had a neat aesthetic and some moments I genuinely liked. I just feel the story lost me and it came off as an imitation of other better sci-fi movies. I think the cast is doing their best here and some of the visuals are pretty slick too. I just think the movie itself is kind of boring, which is more of a personal preference than anything else here. Overall, I feel like rewatching the original "Alien" will satisfy a similar vibe, and is a much better movie about a crew falling apart on a ship in space.

Nostalgia maybe, but I really enjoy this movie. So much grit in this haunted house style movie set in space. It's hard to believe this movie is disliked so much but it does demonstrate to me that we all get different things from different stories.
