Facing Nolan Reviews
Watching Facing Nolan was an absolute joy. His baseball accomplishments are legendary and his many records will never be broken. More importantly, this film captures Nolan and his supportive beautiful wife Ruth. The sacrifices she must have made to support his career I can only imagine. His family especially his children and grandchildren and the total love of their family is what makes this so special. Nolan was a fierce competitor; a true warrior in every sense of the word. However off the field he's as humble a human being as I've ever seen. His family is everything to him. I grew up a NY Mets fan and did get to root for him and watch him pitch. He was just a kid back then. Watching him pitch even if not for the Mets was a total joy. He was as great a pitcher as any the game has ever seen. This film brought a smile to my heart and a tear to my heart. Nolan, Ruth, thank you for all the wonderful memories.
While the structure and content of this sports documentary is pretty typical and straightforward, producer Russell Groves and director Bradley Jackson wisely kept their focus on Ryan the baseball legend and what made hims such an enormous figure in the sport, while also showing him away from the game and who he is off the field. Ryan was a singular figure in his own way, as a pitcher and a personality. It's good to see that even with all the intimidation and formidable force he exuded on the mound, he stayed a grounded and much loved man for both family and fans when not on the field. It's also nice to see what an important influence his wife has been all these decades they've been together. She's a pretty interesting figure herself. 3.6 stars
Ryan retired before I was interested in baseball. But even for someone who never watched him pitch, this documentary was captivating! The pace and dynamics of the film make this easy to watch. My wife, who isn't even into baseball, enjoyed it. There was a great balance between Nolan's career and personal life. Excellent doc!
This was a lot of fun, even though it's not exactly a warts and all doc. The only wild side of Nolan Ryan appeared to be when he was on a baseball mound. This is purely about the accomplishments of the man on the baseball field, and the slight help he got from his wife who gets a portion of the credit for her husband's success. It's produced by the man in the title so that says a lot, but it's a good time. Ryan is really a marvel. While this doesn't go into too much detail, it's never uninteresting. Final Score: 9/10
Really good documentary of one of the most fearsome and endurable pitchers of all time. The interviews are really great, particularly George W Bush and Pete Rose. Ryan comes across as a good ol Texan boy. Thank god we didn't get into politics because I am sure he is a Trumper. This documentary was all about baseball and family. His wife was delightful!
Not a huge baseball fan but this documentary was fantastic. So well done!
Great Doc to learn more about one of the greatest to ever do it! Great for a baseball fan of any team !
If you love baseball, you'll cry. Good stuff.
Even if you know nothing about baseball (like me), this movie is simply incredible. It's the best movie I've seen all year.
Loved it, but of course he is my favorite player of all time. Great movie for anyone to watch 👏👏👏
Great Doc about one of the best to ever do it... Learned a few things along the way as well.... Great Pitcher and a Great Man..
Wasn’t what I thought it was gonna be
Saw this doc/film last night as a one night only showing and "Facing Nolan" was enlightening, heartwarming and inspiring. Best game I ever saw of any sport was Nolan Ryan throwing a 1 hitter with my aunt, uncle and brother Danny on June 3, 1989. If/when this doc/film streams I highly recommend it, regardless if you like sports or not.
Excellent story, very personal to me as the 7th not hitter was the first baseball game my dad took me too.
My entire childhood came rushing through my head like the West Texas wind. I have so many great stories of Nolan and the Rangers and the traditions we had as a family. Nolan is a Hero….To Texas, To his fans and this Documentary shows he was a Hero to his family. Nolan Ryan personifies perseverance, strength, passion and love! I was at the game Bo Jackson's grounder bloodied his lip……We used to go to Bobby V's restaurant before or after the game. I remember all the baseball cards on the walls. I watched on 온라인카지노추천 his 300th win, His 5000 K's and his 7th No-Hitter. I'm 44 with 2 kiddos of my own. I took them tonight to see this so that I can share with them about one of my greatest passions and one of my baseball heros. I laughed a bunch…And shed a few tears as well. This was a great story about a guy they called Big Tex and it was awesome. Thank you for the memories Nolan and Thanks to the Ryan family for putting together such an amazing film. ❤️❤️❤️
