Final Destination 2 Reviews
It's funny. I've started to see these movies about twice, so I would have better understanding and process my reviews of each Final Destination film a little bit better. As a reminder, I'm not the biggest fan of the franchise. If you ask me, whenever I think of these movies, I think of the show called 1000 Ways to Die. Maybe it's because it has that educational touch as to why I enjoyed the show more than the movies. It doesn't mean the Final Destination films are terrible, well, except one. They're just fine as a whole. For now, let's talk about the second movie of the franchise. It is better than the first film in terms of the kills, some of the cinematography, and the tension between the characters who are cheating death. I will say it is a bit better on the pacing, despite being similar to how the last movie's plot goes. There is a twist near the end that I honestly wasn't a fan of. Having the feel of ending the chain of death that goes on, yet the twist says, "Nope"! But I digress. I liked how they even tie in the characters of this movie to the characters from the last film as Clear being involved goes. It's also nice to see Ali Larter as well as Tony Todd being in this again. The characters are a little more fleshed out, even for a short time before they end up being dead. Again, it is better than the last film. For this one, I give this one seven and a half logging hell on the highway out moment out of ten. 7.5/10.
'Final Destination 2' isn't a movie I had a bad time watching, but it is undeniably a very sizeable drop from the original that I found so entertaining. Last time out we had a cool plane-related plot, this time out's RTC doesn't quite come out as interesting or as peculiar. The cast are also downgrades, if nothing negative. A. J. Cook & Co. are perfectly fine in their respective roles, but it is missing a sturdy lead performer. Their characters are also weak, which obviously doesn't help the acting talent. The effects/creative deaths remain fairly good though. It ends up creating some intrigue with the twist(s), though to be honest to me it felt too entwined. What doesn't help is that the cat is out the bag due to the original, it can't hit as much as you know the general gist of it all. That doesn't bode well for the other sequels, but time will tell.
"Final Destination 2" sticks to the same formula as the first one, keeping the eerie atmosphere and inevitable doom at the center of its plot. The story kicks off with a massive, well-executed crash sequence that sets the stage for another round of fate playing its twisted game. While the concept remains engaging, the script doesn't dive deeper into the lore, missing an opportunity to expand on what made the original so intriguing. The directing keeps things moving at a solid pace, balancing tension with dark humor, and the cinematography does a good job of making the kills feel even more brutal with clever framing and effects. The acting is decent, nothing outstanding, but it gets the job done for a movie that relies more on suspense and creative death scenes than emotional depth. The editing is sharp, though there are a few continuity errors that eagle-eyed viewers might catch. The score is effective, enhancing the eerie mood and building tension where needed. While it doesn't reinvent the franchise, the movie delivers what fans expect, shocking, elaborate death sequences and a sense of unavoidable fate. It may not be a masterpiece, but it’s a fun, suspenseful ride for horror fans.
Wow. That was bad acting. Crash scene was good though. The first one was decent but this is really bad.
Much better than the first movie. I felt like the beginning scene felt way more fulfilling than the first movie as we saw all the kills happening one after the other. Also all the other kills were way more bloodier and definitely better. Also you get Tony Todd and Ali Larter returning which are some of my favorite actors in this franchise. Also it is the only Final Destination movie where they lived.
This is basically on par with the first film, maybe even a bit better. It feels like a natural follow-up to the first film's events and tone, while still feeling like a standalone movie. Let's just get right into it. The story is basically the same as the first film except it's a motorway accident and the events of the first film cause the events of this one. So the main thing to talk about here is the kills. They're more tragic and less funny mostly, as the characters are people we get properly invested in and who clearly don't want to die, which makes this feel a bit different, but they are still gory. Also notice how I said "mostly". The ending kill at the barbeque is still funny. Also the links to the first film are cool, with how a group of people got out of Death's plan via consequences of the first film, and Death is trying to correct what happened there. It's a great concept that sort of wraps up the duology of the first two films, as the next films are less connected. Overall, it's a worthy sequel to the first film. Can't wait for the next one!
The casting isn’t as good as the first film but the film itself is still very entertaining. It progresses the story slightly, whilst still giving you very much more of the same. The pacing is probably a bit better with more regular deaths but it does suffer from being very slightly more forgettable but for no obvious reason. Everything looked good except for a slow-motion explosion near the end of the film which wasn’t a very special effect. The sound design is engaging, especially watching with surround sound. They really understood the format, slowly building up the process leading to someone’s death, like a sick Rube Goldberg machine.
I honestly adore this movie, this is THE Final Destination film.
FINAL DESTINATION 2 is a soulless copy of its predecessor, filled with shallow characters and a lead who seems as disengaged as the audience enduring it.
If there was no Final Destination after this, the series would have been perfect. The first Final Destination was great, and this is great, and then the next one is good. And the next one is ok, and eh and then bad. They just got worse. But this one is amazing, I love it. Gory mess is always cool.
Uhm, I was lowkey confused the whole time I did wish the characters had more of a connection it was very bland to me. I will say you amped up the gore like that traffic scene Jesus everyone-fucked lol aint no way claire going keep living death will always come back in mysterious ways.
“You can't cheat death twice.” I won’t be going behind any truck again that’s for sure. Clear coming back for the second film was amazing. 5/5 stars.
A great film! Plays on the first film's idea, but grows more suspense and thrill. It's interesting to see what else the writer's come up with.
Not as good as the first one but i still had fun with this
This is one of the few films that I've seen where the protagonists are actually the villains. Kimberley sets up most of the deaths due to her constant misinterpretation of the visions. In the end she and Burke just move on after every incident as if nothing happens.
Better than the first film. Actually entertaining to watch.
although not as good as the first I believe that the second was a good film as there's suspense , gore and character development. even if the film can be ridiculous at times I feel its what makes the film iconic within the series my favourite plotline had to be Rory with such a unbelievable death and the swiftness of it I feel his last convocation was such an important one showing how he coming to terms with his own mortality and asking the main character to get rid of anything that will "upset my mom" thinking about how he wants to be remembered , a small glimpse into the feeling of Rory compared tot the usual chill guy persona before his brutal death watching final destination is a good night in for the spooky month and the second is no different
Hahaha stupid movie. Was still entertaining but looked so much like the first one apart from the new twists like stopping death or not being able to be saved from death if done by someone that shouldve died.
Pretty good movie!!!
The Final Destination franchise is a rollercoaster of hits and misses, with each film offering a unique experience. The first film was a standout with its incredible cast, well-choreographed death scenes, and impressive CGI, creating a thrilling and memorable viewing experience. It sets the stage for the rest of the franchise and is a must-watch to dive into the series. The fear-inducing nature of the first film sticks with you, making you wary of certain scenarios like logging trucks on the interstate. The subsequent films maintain the suspense and entertainment value, although some may not reach the same heights as the original. Final Destination 3 introduces a roller coaster theme, adding a new dimension to the series with a focus on amusement park thrills. While it may not live up to the standards set by its predecessors, the film still offers an engaging watch, thanks to its strong casting and visual effects. Final Destination and Final Destination 5 continue the franchise's trend of captivating audiences with their thrilling storylines and engaging characters. While they may not reach blockbuster status, they succeed in keeping viewers entertained and invested in the series. Overall, the Final Destination franchise is a mixed bag, with each installment bringing something different to the table. While some films may not shine as brightly as others, the series as a whole offers an enjoyable viewing experience that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
