Honestly, I was only half way engaged the whole time and by the end of the movie I felt like I had wasted my time watching it. There wasn’t much action/horror and just had me watching to understand what’s happening. I want to say there was probably only 10-20 minutes where the movie had me really paying attention and at the edge of my seat. Would not recommend as a good horror film imo.

There aren't a lot of huge laughs here - in fact, I'm not sure if I laughed out loud once. But what it does have is a lot of wit, a lot of charm and a sense of family. And it's gotta be the most unique adaptation of Jane Austen ever made! It also has a star-is-born performance by Booster whose charisma practically jumps off the screen. Considering he also wrote the script, this is a guy to watch. I appreciate that the film digs a bit deeper than you might originally expect, touching on subjects such as body positivity, parental acceptance and self-esteem. I found myself surprisingly moved on a couple occasions. The movie relies far too much on narration, which is a personal pet peeve. And supporting performances by Matt Rogers and Tomas Matos, likable as they are, feel very one-note and tend to detract from the humor rather than add do it. The script has some wonderful cultural references, and a game of Heads Up! is particularly funny. This is more smiles and chuckles and feel-good moments than boisterous guffaws and side-splitting laughter, but when the screenplay and characters are this strong and appealing, that's just fine with me.

Mildly amusing in places but feels too safe (evidenced by the banal platitudes that the characters often speak instead of real dialogue) and a little underwritten.

Great idea, but all over the place with no real point. One dimensional characters. Even managed to underwhelm with the brilliant Margaret Cho.

🏳️‍🌈 A romantic comedy film written by and starring Joel Kim Booster and inspired by Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, which follows a diverse group of gay friends who go on vacation to Fire Island, New York for their annual week of love and laughter, only for things to become complicated by classism and romance. This fresh and modern retelling on the classic story is relatable and funny, and its parallels with the novel are quite evident. Also, the fact that it deals with social expectations, stereotypes, body dysmorphia, and racism makes it very deep and thought-provoking. Its insightful representation is noteworthy, and even though it has a lot of familiar tropes and corny scenarios, its talented cast makes it entertaining and believable. The ending is quite heartwarming and cheesy.

Apparently a rom-com with a little bit of raunch attempting to hide the underlined sweetness makes for a fun watch because I enjoyed the hell out of this movie! Although the entire group of friends that go on this trip act well together, the main focus is on the two pictured here. Their bond runs deep and for better or worse there is nothing they wouldn't do for one another. You believe their love for one another within minutes of dialogue which allows the viewer to just sit back and watch them navigate their lives. It would be silly to ask why we don't have more gay comedies out there. We know the answer to that… It's even sillier to me that a lot of people won't watch this movie because the main characters are all gay. Actually, I don't remember a straight character in any scene! Well it's their loss! This movie checks all the boxes for the perfect raunchy rom-com. And if you are into ripped dudes with 0% body fat that will make you question your workout routine, you get yourself a little cherry on top of your movie sundae with one.

This movie is smart, but not as charming or funny it thinks it is. Fire Island takes a good part of the movie to talk about gay culture and how there can be division in it. It brings good arguments and uses a perfect scenery, a gay resort, to talk about them. The main character, while likeable, sometimes feels a little too condescending. The movie is sexy, and the characters are actually nice to follow, but everything feel a little too safe: the humor, the romance and the arguments. I read that the cast was praised for their acting, but I was not amazed by it, it was okay but barely great.

Ridiculous movie and should be taken off the streaming service. Stop supporting these useless as movies. SMH.
