Ghost Ship Reviews
As for the "shock" ending, it's the sort of feeble finale that has marred many a horror flick for approximately 40 years.

Routine Dark Castle blandness, with the horror factory missing a prime opportunity to generate an interestingly grotesque chiller on the open sea.

Not a masterful script by veteran John Pogue and collaborator Mark Hanlon... it nevertheless gets the job done, thanks to Beck, Tattersall and Hobbs, giving us a haunting little tale set on the high seas, just perfect for a Halloween viewing.

the movie's over-the-top opening sequence is worth the price of admission alone.

After a very brutal and bloody beginning, Ghost Ship plays like an old-fashioned ghost story, the kind that kept you awake when you were a kid.

The folks at Hollywood's Dark Castle Entertainment are polluting the high seas with this dead-in-the-water combo of The Shining and Titanic.

Do not board Ghost Ship.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jan 1, 2011
It's moody and atmospheric, with a lot of solid performances from the cast.

Three things can be counted on from Warner Bros. and Dark Castle's annual Halloween release: (1) a lot of spiffy special effects; (2) a fair amount of gore; and (3) not one single scare.

B-movies can be better than this.

There is a sense of predictability about the film after the promising start and for all its good intentions it never takes us on board with its mish mash of ghosts, mysticism and spiritual concoction.

Beck clobbers the audience with the most gruesome prologue I have ever seen in a horror movie and then settles the story into a routine ghost story and bloody body count.

The movie has few surprises for lifelong horror fans, but it'll keep them (or us -- I count myself in their number) happily diverted for just under 90 minutes.
| Original Score: B- | Feb 14, 2008
Director Beck loses it, with techno-scored flashbacks (note: techno isn't scary) and blow-up-the-place gimmickry...
| Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 30, 2006
The final reel plots a course smack between predictable and sheer idiocy.

Os efeitos visuais so risveis, os dilogos so pssimos e o filme simplesmente no assusta. Em contrapartida, a trama desenvolvida de tal maneira que jamais perdemos o interesse no que est acontecendo.

It's a workmanlike production, with no surprises, no scares and no jokes - unless you count the demon that laments his job by saying he must gather enough souls to fill a quota.

Director Steven Beck builds his Ghost Ship with borrowed materials from all across the cinematic sea.

It should be mentioned that the set design and interiors of the haunted vessel are more than effectively creepy and moodily lit. So I just did.
