Ghost Ship Reviews

Mar 7, 2025

A fairly easy watch, not too intense compared to most horror films of today with fairly mild horror and a few scenes of gore. The story revolves around demonic entity that uses a ship to collect souls for the devil as payment for a life full of sin. We then follow a salvage crew who are lured to the ship in the hope of claiming the vessel for money. Although the concept of this film is brilliant the execution is quite poor which is a shame as the fundamental concept is quite interesting. Overall I think this film is definitely a decent watch but nothing to write home about and the more hardcore horror fans will be left wanting much more.

This might be a guilty pleasure

Insanely boring plot. No real depth, no surprises. I ended up skipping forth and forth. A total waste of time.

The opening scene is the best part of the movie.

2002's 'Ghost Ship' promises a lot but delivers very little. SYNOPSIS: 'A salvage crew discovers a long-lost 1962 passenger ship floating lifeless in a remote region of the Bering Sea, and soon notices that its long-dead inhabitants may still be on board.' 'Ghost Ship' is famous for its opening scene but beyond that there's very little to celebrate. It's just a big standard 00's horror affair. Tropes aplenty, it's a cut-and-paste job that's more transparent than ectoplasm. If it's been in a recent horror film it's plundered here and for good use. Devoid of legitimate shocks and marred by a storyline which feels like it was written by a child. So bad it's good, the story meanders from one bloody set piece to another. B-list horror at its best. Worst. 5/10

Ghost ship - openning minute inferred how this filum was going to go. Stopped listening around that time and read me book b.utt. unfinished, shortly after. 1.11.24. 1/0. D.B.

It's a lowkey, mediocre ghost tale with little to offer but the cutting down of the ship's patrons early on in the movie. Besides that, it's predictable drudgery for the most part, with only occasional spikes in intrigue

It's a poor rip off of something like Event Horizon. The biggest problem the whole way is the subpar acting across the board. No one not even Bryne is even close to good in this. The dialouge most of the time is just reciting plot expose or making dumb jokes. we are led to think Byrne will be the main character but Epps becomes it by the end and man she is terrible. She just has no emotion and delivers every line a in boring monotone phoned in way. No one has any chemistry, there all one dimensional, and I struggle to remember anyone beyond their surface level features. The cinematography outside of a cool opening scene isn't good. the CGI is terrible, the direction isn't good, the setting isn't memorable at all because everything is a brown rust or too dark, pointless jump scares and some scenes straight don't make sense. The music isn't good and everything else is terrible. This starts dividing the crew up as they explore the ship and it gets terribly jumpy with pointless subplots that lead to characters deaths that mean nothing. This is trying to be a Horror movie and action at the same time and it just never in the slightest makes it work. the music is never creepy or spooky or adreniline going. It's extremely forgettable. By the time the little Shining/Ring girl shows her the flashback of what happened on the ship it just straight gets incoherent and doesn't make sense. This starts out with such a simple premise and just completely loses logic which is crazy. It's not scary, the action isn't cool, it doesn't make sense surpisngly, and there is no reason anyone should see this. Skip It. Maybe with a better script and better acting this could work in a remake but I would'nt hold my breath.

I remember thinking this film was terrifying as a kid but re-watching it as an adult makes me realise it's just an enjoyably dumb fun, early 2000s horror B movie.

Absolute rubbish, Netflix have let themselves down with this.

Although a low rating across most, I enjoyed this movie. It's full of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat.. it's a little predictable however I did not see the ending coming! Great effects throughout and good storyline. I keep watching this film again and again.

I used to watch this movie as a kid and i always thought it was awesome, until i watched it again 15 years later and realized it's kinda boring. Only really good part was the opening scene.

Weirdly I quite like it...worth a gander

Wonderfully acted , creepy atmospheric scenes and a really cool story make this movie a hidden gem in the horror genre. Don't let the overly critical academic types ruin your opportunity to enjoy this movie. I don't understand why so many people expect perfection from a horror movie...sit back and be entertained and creepified. This movie has an almost unknown story in a genre that is saturated with stale and over done zombie and teens in a haunted house / in the woods tropes...this one is different and rewards thos that pay attention...enjoy it !!!

🎃 Oh dear, a wreck of the worst kind. Ghost Ship starts off great—the opening sequence is downright legendary in early 2000s genre cinema. But unfortunately, after those five minutes, that’s where it all ends. The remaining 80 minutes are dull, and with every passing second, the film loses what little appeal was left after the beginning. Stupid, unlikeable characters in a dumb, meaningless plot. The amount of wasted potential here can only be measured in the largest possible units. 🚢 Then, after a handful of oddly funny scenes, comes the big exposition montage. What follows are twists and turns, each more ridiculous and brainless than the last—leading up to a bitter (but very amusing) end. 🏰 I like Dark Castle productions. I'm a big advocate of House of Wax. And Ghost Ship, in its stupidity, almost reaches "so bad it's good" status. But because nothing really happens for most of the runtime, it takes quite a bit of endurance, despite the short length. And even for fans of trash cinema, it doesn't fully deliver. A few chuckles and maybe a couple of laughs, and that’s about it. I can only explain why Ghost Ship was so ubiquitously advertised, aired, and remembered from my childhood because of the opening scene. After that, everyone must have fallen asleep.

It's cheesy, campy and predictable but still remains one of my favorite horror movies. I don't understand the harsh rating and it honestly deserves better. The opening scene is iconic and the movie itself holds up well enough. Definitely a movie to grab the popcorn and chill to on a Friday night.

Ghost Ship is a complete rip-off to the shining and the opening death scene are unbelievable but the editing is horrible the characters are dumb and really annoying heavy metal horror songs it doesn't help with the movie and bad writing and really bad fake jump scars.

This is a really underrated movie. How is it rated so low. It’s a great popcorn movie with all the production effort playing out well enough on screen. A amazing opening scene will keep you hanging around to find out more. The only thing naff about this movie is its title.
